This is a good book! It is somewhat simple but it's the simple things that we often overlook. Helps you understand the way men and women think differently. My wife caught me reading this book and she thought it was funny. Now she took it from me and she is also reading it :)

The premise is simple: women should not make men feel ashamed. Men should not make women feel alone. There are lists of many ways these things can play out on a day-to-day basis. I smugly thought to myself, "I don't shame my man." But then I read the list of things a woman might do that could make a man feel ashamed. I was stunned by how many things I do. Offer "helpful" suggestions? Yup. I do that all the time. It's helpful, isn't it? I had no idea it could be perceived as a bad thing. I thought I was self aware and good at communicating, but I had not considered things from a perspective of shame, inadequacy, failure, etc. Through that lens there were/are a whole lot of things I could improve.

Sometimes you have no idea that what you are doing is hurting your partner -- in the way that hurts them most. This book helps you stop doing that. I've read too many relationship books. This one is very practical and made me really take a look at my own behaviour.

I am a marital and family therapist and bought this as a reference book. I found it to be very helpful in understanding gender communication and expectation differences. I have recommended it to couples that I work with. It is well written and easy to understand. I see it as a helpful tool for therapists and a useful guide for couples.

While I am divorced, I work with women and believe that this book is a helpful read for a man or woman if they struggle with communication in their relationships. It gives constructive ideas on how to proceed and helps the reader to understand how their current approaches might be perceived as threatening.

This book looked at relationship dynamics in a way I have never thought of - I found it to be very thought provoking. It definitely resonated with me and took me to places outside of my comfort zone. All-in-all, I thought it was an excellent book...but I did find the tone to be more critical of women and more protective of men. Still lots of valuable advice...just didn't seem completely objective in expressing views about men and women.
