Product Description

When Knox Wellington opens the door to Charlie Davenport, he's not expecting the fiery brunette with whiskey colored eyes and a feisty personality. Sparks fly immediately, even though their initial meeting is nothing but hostile. Their chemistry is undeniable, but the chip on Knox's shoulder threatens to destroy any hope of him wooing the sweet, southern volunteer sent to help with his rehabilitation.

Little does he know she's no Southern Belle, as she gives as good as she can take. As unexpected circumstances push them closer together, heads butt, patience is tested, and flames ignite as they dance around their mutual attraction, both of them jaded from broken pasts.

They've both been burned before, so when their feelings of lust, desire, and wanting are inflamed in the heat of the moment, will they finally be able to get over the pain of the past or will their relationship be reduced to ashes before it can ever really begin?

*Re-edited and two bonus scenes added July 2015*

“...one of these days you’re going to meet someone that will make you stop being so damn cynical all the time, and I can’t wait for that day to come.”

“Never gonna happen.”

“Famous last words, Knox. Famous last words.”

This was so awesome!! I think I enjoyed this one better than the first. And I loved Jace, but Knox was just HAWT!!

When Charlie meets Knox for the first time at a bar, she is embarrassed for being turned down. Then she ends up knocking on his door. She can't believe that he is the man that she has volunteered to take care of. How she is suppose to be in such close proximity with a man she is really attracted to?

Knox has suffered multiple injuries while at war. He isn't in place to start anything with anyone. In fact, he no longer does relationships. But when he sees Charlie, he knows there is something about her that just calls to him. He can't believe his curse...or luck when she is the once caring for him. He tries not to feel anything for her, but it's pretty impossible.

'For the first time in forever, I want more than a quick lay with a woman. I haven't wanted a relationship with anyone, but with Charlie, I do, and I'm already feeling stupidly possessive. I want to spend time with her, not as my roommate, but as my girl, mine and no one else's.'

Charlie is the daughter of a military man, she has only had him in her life. Because of that, she is a bit of a tomboy. She enjoys boxing with the guys. She's tough, independent, and confident. And I really liked her. She now volunteers to help injured soldiers until they return back to health.

My rating: 5 of 5 ⭐️

Injured in an explosion while on a mission as EOD Specialist for the army, Knox Wellington is none to happy that he will be out of commission for the unforseeable future. Not only that, but he is going to have to accept help doing simple tasks until the doc clears him for some PT. So when he opens his door to find the gorgeous brunette he had been trying hard to ignore the night before at the bar with his mates, to find out SHE is the rehabilitation volunteer who will be assisting him through his recovery, he is all but pissed.

As if the blow off she got last night at the bar wasn't enough, Charlie Davenport had no illusions left with the hunk who snubbed her being the same guy as the scowling patient standing before her. Lovely. But, growing up with a father in the military, she is not a stranger to the way these strong and capable men handle illness or injury......POORLY. Charlie is here to do a job and she'll stick with it.... and will try her very best to ignore the sparks that fly whenever they are around each other.

When circumstances put Charlie in Knox' spare bedroom, the close proximity forces the two to work around their initial hostility and palpable chemistry and forge a tentative friendship. Spending more time together also brings down some of the defenses both have erected after their respective negative experiences with the opposite sex and before long, very little is holding back the electricity that sparks between them.

But there is no moving toward a future before the past is left behind for good, and both Charlie and Knox find out there are doors that need closing. For good.

I won an ARC from the author and really enjoyed every minute I spent reading this.

The story of Knox and Charlie is fantastic. He's just broken enough to be hot without being annoying and I loved his surly attitude at the beginning of the book and his hesitance with the growing relationship. Charlie is an awesome, strong leading lady. She's the perfect mix of sexy, sassy and tough. She can and will kick Knox's butt when required. There is just enough broken hearts from their pasts and a good old misunderstanding to keep things interesting. I read the majority of this book in the tub in one night. I devoured it and you will too :)

Knox Wellington was a soldier. It was all he knew until a roadside bomb landed him home and needing the help of Charlie Davenport.

Charlie and Knox get off to a rough start, both have been burned in the past and neither are looking for love...but that the best part about love. You never know when it's going to incinerate you!
