5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! A Dark and Steamy Romance Aug. 25 2013
By Jennifer @ Battery Operated Book Blog - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
WOW! When I finished The Protégé I was just sitting there shaking my head thinking, "I did not see that coming!" I am so glad that I already had The Innocent sitting on my night stand ready to go because if I had to wait I would have been clawing at the walls. The Protégé leaves you with a strong sense that Serena Singleton is in a very abusive relationship with her Master, Price Turnsby. I still want to rip this mans nuts off his body and feed them to him, that's how upset he makes me. Engaging in rough sex and being an exhibitionist voyeur and having a Dom/sub relationship is one thing but being in a highly abusive relationship that smarts of domestic violence is another. Serena Singleton is once again a very strong character but when it comes to Price he is her achilles heel. She whole heartedly believes that she'd have died years ago on the streets if it weren't for Price coming along and showing her the ways of the world and more importantly, teaching her how to use her body as a tool to bring men to their knees.

The Innocent does a very good job of heating you up and chilling you as soon as Price comes on the page again. One minute Serena looks like she is going to nut up and leave Price once and for all and be with Sebastian Sorensen; the next she is doing very naughty things with Price that make your nether regions stand up and take notice but you really want to be ashamed of your bodies reaction to this tyrant. She doesn't come out and say she loves Sebastian (though he certainly tells her every chance he gets), she obviously feels a fierce need to protect him from Price and can't keep herself away from his love and adoration. Finding ways to sneak away and be with Sebastian shows her that there is a very heated side to Sebastian's sexual repartee. But Sebastian gives Serena so much more than just the rough sex that she craves, he has the ability to submit to her desires and that makes him way more than just a Master like Price.

The ending to this one was empowering to say the least and I can't say much more than that without giving it all away. I threw a fist into the air and shouted, "hell yes" when the Epilogue concluded. Now I want The Master ... and I'm going to be climbing the walls until it is released!

Wow, Miss Kailin Gow you are on fire! I mean I think you may have ignited a fire with The Innocent. I couldn't put this book down. I can't stop thinking about Serena and Sebastian. I wouldn't expect any less from Kailin Gow. She hasn't written a book that I didn't love. This may be my absolute favorite. It was pretty raw and wild! If you haven't read the first book in the series The Protege I would recommend that before reading this one. The first book is the beginning of Serena and Sebastian's passionate roller coaster of a ride. That is what it is the beginning and with The Innocent the thrilling ride seems to get a whole lot faster with a lot more twist and turns.

So who doesn't want a man to give everything and fight for them? Sebastian has made it clear to Serena that whatever Price has over her that he doesn't care. He wants her, he is hopelessly in love with her and spends every waking minute trying to figure out a way for her to be his and only his. Price has a hold over Serena, he excites her. She doesn't hate what he does to her and the consequences of her betrayal scares her. She care for Sebastian so much that she would do anything to make sure the very rich and powerful price stays away from him. The only problem is that she can't seem to stay away from Sebastian what they share is so much more different then what she has with Price and although Price is playing some twisted game she still wants to keep him happy and satisfied.

I want to give Sebastian a high five, or a big giant hug and tell him to just go get her. I want these two to be together so bad. Price is the character you despise. He is twisted, ruthless, and downright controlling. He has Serena all brainwashed to think that what they have is some kind of special connection. It is quite disgusting the things he puts her through! Then Sebastian is like the white knight he is ready to rescue this damsel and give her anything, and everything she deserves.

I am looking forward to where this series is going. December may be way too long to wait! If Kailin Gow can knock it out of the park again then I will happily wait for the next book. In the mean time I recommend you dive into Serena and Sebastan's love affair. They are both so uninhibited that it makes for some great moments between them. You won't want to miss it.

Steamy hot, better than the first book in the series. Leaves you wanting more to see how the story ends. I hope the next book delivers a combustible conclusion to this series... not dragging it out into more than three. Sebastian is perfect... how can she not end up with him.
4.0 out of 5 stars Appealing and certainly delicious Sept. 2 2013

Personally as a reader - I think that this is the Best of Kailin Gow's adult series to date.

The heat has been turned up and found it to be very smooth flowing and delightful in many a scenes** waggles eyebrows**

The cover is sexy - appealing and certainly delicious.

In The Innocent we see a stronger side to Serena. A smokin hot sexy side to Sebastian and of course the arse that Price has always been, we see that he considers Serena a possession rather than a person. One form of abuse that stands out like a neon light.

All relationships are put forth for the reader to see - the dangerous yet kinky side to Price and Serena's past and present. Also Sebastian's side I very much enjoyed - I have to say this surprised me, but loved it none the less.

Kailin has put forth in this story one of abuse - and maybe even paybacks a bitch. Abuse is not right no matter which scene you may enjoy. Whether Vanilla or kinky - there must always be a safe haven- safe word.

I found that Price never offered this to Serena - his standoffish nature didn't appeal to me and even the exhibitionist that he was, I found that Serina was just a pawn in his life. One, whom he used, abused and manipulated for his benefit. He was certainly not a DOM I'd like to be submissive to. Or a Dom doing the right thing towards his submissive.

We may all like our many flavours when it comes to sex, but one thing I did notice is that Price rules the roost and really as a Dom - I didn't find him to be acceptable and caring enough.

Pleasure and Pain comes in many forms for all people, but it must always be consensual. This is demonstrated within one aspect of this story between two willing participants however we also see that another is not always.

So as a reader if you are not into a BDSM read - detailed descriptions, (bondage) - use of toys, and other implements including - smokin kinky scenes, then this read is not for you.

Those who enjoy a little kink or two you will be happily surprised.

Kailin has touched BDSM throughout this story very mildly really but has increased the par with this instalment. I enjoyed seeing another Side of Sebastian and really like him as a caring character with needs like everyone. However he shows his differently in The Innocent and certainly - With love.

I read this instalment in one sitting - it kept me intrigued, tantalized and certainly dazed in many a scenes. I have to say this author delivers a sexy, kinky story with a storyline behind it - that shows through the pages.

It is a short read but will certainly have you awaiting book three.

***WARNING - If you have not read The Protege, you will need to go back and read it first. Otherwise this review will contain major spoilers***

If you read that and are still reading this even though you haven't read The Protege, you have been warned. What started out as Serena Singleton looking for revenge again Sebastian Sorensen when he turned her down for a spot in his musical while on stage as a stripper, had quickly morphed into passion. Passion that Serena has never felt before. Passion not only for music, but for the man Sebastian Sorensen. Gone now is the sweet and innocent girl she portrayed and in it's place is her true self. The woman that seeks sexual pleasure but not just in submission but in dominance as well.

But Serena now has a problem. After reading that Sebastian is set to marry Willow, Serena runs back to the man she left behind. A man who wants to control and dominate her entire life. The man that saved her from the streets and taught her about what it is to be passionate and find sexual pleasure. None other than her master, Price Turnsby. Price punishes Serena for leaving him to pursue a degree in composition and for falling into the arms of his worst enemy Sebastian. While Price is a passionate man and bring Serena to the brink and back, he's devoid of any true emotion other than sexual dominance. He lacks the caring and love that Sebastian has shown her.

So while she stays with Price, she reveals to Sebastian that she is staying only to find out what kind of revenge he has planned for Sebastian. While her body still craves the touch of her master, she longs for the way that Sebastian makes her feel. But she has made it clear to him that they must only have a relationship on a professional level and he is to return to the role of her adviser and nothing more. Day in and day out, Sebastian longs for the return of the few short weeks that he and Serena spent together. It's torture for him to be so close to her, but still have her so far out of his reach.

He vows to fight in any way possible to show Serena that he can handle her true and sexy nature. That he can give Serena a life she has only dreamed about and that Price will never be the man she truly needs in her life. But can he really handle what it will take to prove this to Serena? Can he really be man enough? And who really is Price Turnsby? What is his past really about? What is he not telling anyone?

I was so excited to start this book right after I finished The Protege. Now familiar with Kailin Gow's work, I know to expect great things out of her work and her characters. She did not disappoint with this story. At times it was hard to watch Sebastian fight for the woman he loves, a woman that belongs to another man. But the journey there was a great one, and I cannot wait for The Master to come out. I can't wait to see more of this new side of Serena and find out what happens with both Price and Sebastian. If you have never read any of Kailin's work, this is the perfect series to start out with and then when you're done go and check out The Master Chef series, it's just as great as this one. I give this book 5 stars, and even though the wait for the third book will be a few months, I know in the end the wait will be well worth it!
