“Sarah Powers seamlessly integrates her unique expressions of yin and yang yogas, with traditional Chinese medicine, Taoism, and Buddhism, to create one of the most complete and balanced systems of modern yoga. This is a teaching of great warmth and intelligence that will heal your body, invigorate your mind, and inspire your soul.”—Richard Rosen, author of The Yoga of Breath
“Sarah Powers brings us a truly brilliant integration of yin and yang yoga, mindfulness, Buddhist philosophy and psychology, and the genius of traditional Chinese medicine. This book belongs in the library of every serious practitioner of yoga and meditation.”—Stephen Cope, Director, Kripalu Institute, author of Yoga and the Quest for the True Self
“When I first met Sarah it didn’t take me long to figure out that she was a yogini of relentless curiosity and great depth. In Insight Yoga she lets the reader into her thinking, her practice, and her life in a way that both inspires and instructs. Insight Yoga is destined to become a classic.”—Judith Hanson Lasater, PhD, PT, author of A Year of Living Your Yoga
“Sarah Powers’s synthesis of wisdom traditions is awesome. Indeed, each tradition is like a transparent map, which when overlaid one upon another, gives a more complete rendering of the Living Event in which we are all participants. Insight Yoga will be of tremendous interest and benefit to many people.”—Erich Schiffmann, author of Yoga: The Spirit and Practice of Moving Into Stillness

I read (somewhere) that "Yin" Yoga is not the same as therapeutic yoga. However, in the first week of following the long held sequence for Kidney and Bladder meridians, I've experienced tremenous relief from a sacroiliac "instability" problem that has racked me with pain throughout my pelvis for the past year (and to a lesser degree the past three years) and at times left me nearly imobile. Much of lifes activity was a litteral pain to trying to enjoy..that can lead to depression! Toward the end of my now second week I am miraculously just about pain free. I work as a Nurses Aide in a nursing home. Heavy, fast paced work so I do have to watch how I work. However, we all probably need to be more aware of how not to use/abuse our body.
I do the "yin" asanas with a now more mindful practice of my other regular asanas. I've combined my yoga practice with a few contractions within yoga asanas for my particular problems which I found in, Trigger Point Therapy for Low Back Pain by Sauer and Biancalana. This works for me - moreso than all the physiotherapy, acupunture, osteopathic and massage (not to belittle the effects possible with these) that I've received regularly over this same span of time.
This book also has comprehensive "Yang" section with a variety of sequences as in the yin section.
I bought this book along with Yin Yoga, outline of a quiet practice by Paul Grilley. An outline is precisely what Paul's book is. Insight Yoga is generous in spirit and information. You can't go wrong with this book in my opinion. It is all the professional Review above claims.
