Product Description Product Description

Core 2 Quad - Q8400 - 2.66 GHz - Socket 775 - L2 cache - 4 MB

From the Manufacturer

The Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 brings four computing cores running at 2.66 GHz in a single processor for the ultimate in efficiency and performance. It features 4 MB of L2 cache and a 1333 MHz front side bus, and it uses the LGA775 socket for wide compatibility with motherboards. The processor features Intel's 45nm architecture and delivers multimedia experiences with greater speed and responsiveness. With the Q8400, demanding users can now accomplish more in less time.

With four cores, you'll experience outstanding performance and better efficiency.

The Core 2 Quad Q8400 lets you enjoy a smooth and high-quality multimedia experience.

Intel's Intelligent Power Capability ensures optimal energy efficiency.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 Processor features:

  • Four computing cores running at 2.66 GHz.
  • 4 MB of L2 cache.
  • 1333 MHz front side bus.
  • Multimedia acceleration for editing HD video without hiccups.

Stunning Performance Runs Latest Software with Ease
Starting with Intel's revolutionary new high-efficiency, high-performance 45nm processor technology, Intel engineers decided to go one step farther in the performance department. By including 4 MB of shared L2 cache and a front side bus speed of 1333 MHz, the Q8400 processor pushes the technological innovation envelope farther than ever before.

For users, this means the latest and most advanced software applications can open and run faster with superior responsiveness. When used with the latest multimedia software and next-generation games, dropped frames, long waiting times, and stuttering performance are things of the past.

New Technologies Provide Higher Performance and Better Energy Efficiency
By using hafnium, a naturally occurring element, Intel engineers were able to shrink the size of new Intel processors and pack more computing technology into less space. The processor also features Intel's Intelligent Power Capability, which allows it to turn off parts of itself when it isn't in use. The result is improved performance with less energy wastage and a reduction of heat and noise.

Intel has packed the Core 2 Quad Q8400 with cutting-edge technologies for better performance. Wide Dynamic Execution allows the processor to do more tasks simultaneously by enabling the delivery of more instructions per clock cycle. Intel's Advanced Smart Cache technology improves performance by physically placing data closer to the processing cores. And Smart Memory Access, which increases available data bandwidth, means you'll experience less slowdown while multi-tasking, so you can get more done.

Multimedia Acceleration for Faster Content Creation
If you are editing HD video, manipulating professional-grade photos, or working with music, the Q8400 will let your computer keep up with your imagination. The processor features Intel's Advanced Digital Media Boost for accelerating performance of a wide range of applications including video, gaming, speech and image, and photo processing among others. Additionally, Intel's HD Boost technology further improves the performance of SSE4-optimized applications, such as video editing and encoding in high definition.

Fewer Multi-tasking Slowdowns
With four processing cores, you'll be able to juggle more projects and more applications without experiencing the slowdown that you typically see with traditional single-core processors. Processing tasks are split up and distributed to the four different cores so the Q8400 doesn't get bogged down.

Get a Leg Up on the Latest Games
Next-generation gaming is more than just pretty environments and smooth motion. Behind the incredible visual realism of waterfalls or the unlucky ricochet of a bullet are intense, high-speed calculations of asset streaming, terrain generation, 3D rendering, and physics effects. When running select next-generation games, each of the cores in the Q8400 can be dedicated to each of these individual processes, resulting in smoother, more lifelike graphics and further blurring the line between virtual and reality.

The Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 is backed by a three-year warranty.

I purchased this Q8400 Processor to upgrade my Intel Pentium D 940 Dual Core. It runs way faster, great multi-tasking CPU, and EXTREMELY cool. Stock cooler seemed a bit flimsy and a bit loud. I used the older one I had for the P4D, works like a charm.

Combined with a delivery time nobody dreams of (less than 36h from online ordering to being delivered at my door step) I definitely reccomend it to anyone still using Socket 775 motherboards.

This was an upgrade for my old system which was running a Core2Duo E4300+. This was a monumental jump in process power for the system. I have had no problems at all with this processor and it has breathed new life into a system I did not expect to be able to upgrade much.

Great alternative to forking out the money for a new mobo and processor for one of the i5/i7 processors.

HASH(0x9944c870) out of 5 stars OK, be realistic!!!!! May 21 2009
By Mike Goble - Published on
OK, be realistic. This thing smokes! i am running windows 7 64bit, and this thing sits at about 4% usage at all times. i have peaked at 50% at times like when im running a game, unzipping a 4+gig file, browsers open, musics playing, virus scans going.. etc.. i know the cache on its low and the 9550 is only 100$ more, but thats a 100$!!! and this processor probably wont be your bottleneck, you'll be buying new ddr3 ram and bla bla bla.. look if your gonna go above the q8400.. then just buy the i7 920 and have the octocore (HT quad). if you want something that gets rediculous benchmarks under 200 bucks... get this one!!

HASH(0x994a4e1c) out of 5 stars Easy 3.6Ghz Overclock March 24 2010
By Very Ape - Published on
This is a fantastic processor. Using an Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, I have the Q8400 at a stable 3.6Ghz. I've pushed it up to 4.0Ghz, got windows to open, went online, messed around for about 30 minutes without any problems. But it shut down after about 20 minutes of a Prime95 stress test. I'm willing to bet that if I spent more time messing around with the voltage, I couldv'e easily attained a stable 4.0Ghz overclock. But as it sits right now, I've been at 3.6Ghz since December '09 without any problems. After a 12 hour, 100% load stress test, the temps maxed out at 58 Degrees. I'm using a Xigmatek Dark Knight CPU cooler (Air). So if you're running a stock cooler, you might have problems with the temp if you OC to 3.6Ghz. But even at the stock speed, this processor can easily handle just about anything you throw at it. All in all, its a great CPU. Great for multitasking, gaming, heavy computing or basic computing. If you think the 2.6Ghz is kind of weak.....its not. You'd be surprised at how well this does at stock speed. And if you do OC, you'll probably be very happy with the results.

Speed wise its not one of the fastest but give it a heavy load an watch the processing power at work. I'm notorious for multi-tasking and is very satisfied with this performance. Sure for $100 more I can upgrade but I would have to upgrade the memory to DDR3. That $100 can buy more DDR2 4Gig chips and you can't tell that much of a difference. This is a solid product. Do your own research. This is only my opinion.

HASH(0x99a4dbc4) out of 5 stars CPU review Jan. 30 2011
A Kid's Review - Published on
Good CPU but keep in mind this thing runs hot (95 watts) and the included heatsink/fan is only O.K. at best. OEM fan is too noisy for me. Plan on replacing it with a quieter more efficient aftermarket unit. Otherwise this thing does what it is supposed to-and fast. Note that if you are upgrading from a Duo to this Quad you'd better give heat removal, case fans and fan noise a thought!
