Product Description

Product Description

Green Day has defined modern rock-raw power, musical freedom, frantic energy. Now the band that sparked the neo-punk revival has earned its first "best of" collection, International Superhits! Featuring two new songs plus 19 of the band's most popular tracks from its four Reprise albums, from the debut single "Longview" to "Basket Case," "When I Come Around," "J.A.R." and "Minority," International Superhits! is a retrospective not only of Green Day but of the modern rock era. Certified Gold by the RIAA. (1/02)

Strangely for a greatest hits compilation, Green Day's International Superhits opens with two new songs recorded in 2001. "Maria" is Green Day playing to their strengths, a burst of rattling skinny tie new wave that has you itching to join the nearest mosh pit, and the cool acoustic pop of "Poprocks and Coke" is worthy of the trio's Nimrod. The implication is clear: the unfortunate diversion undertaken by 2000's Warning (where the band horrifically mutated into The Levellers) is over and now it's business as usual. Thank God for that. Although a host of skate chancers have tried to rewrite the likes of "Basket Case" and "Brain Stew", no one does punk pop better than Billie Joe and the boys. No one does it quite as intelligently either. "Longview" almost sneers at the slacker ennui it seems to embody, "Welcome to Paradise" sneaks in a cheeky steal from Dead Kennedys, and "Redundant" runs on a sublime psyche melody worth of Elliott Smith. All of which proves you don't need a potty mouth and a dull 'tude to be a real rebel--and dreadlocks and dogs on strings are a definite no no. --Ian Watson

ok im probably gonna end up writing alot so here goes. for those of u who know who GD is then u know why u should get this cd, too hear one of the best bands from the last 10 years...for those of u who dont know who GD is where the hell have u been??!! with over 25 million albums sold Green Day has shown that thay r one of the best bands! and heres the perfect cd! International Superhits has 18 songs from the last 4 Green Day cds with 2 new songs and 1 song that appeared on the "Angus" soundtrack...overall a great cd, great songs, great band!. now i wanna talk about a couple reviews ive read from other people who seemed to have some problem with this cd...i noticed a couple people were dissapointed that no songs from GD's first 2 cds were included well thats simply because no songs on those 2 cds were released as singles and only the best GD songs were chosen for i read a review from somone who claimed a band should only have a "greatest hits cd" when the band has split up!!! ....wake up buddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a band doesnt have to be around for 20 years to have success and its beacuse Green day have had so much success that they wanted to show what theyve done so far and believe me Green Day has alot more to bring!!
overall great cd, the 2 new songs are pretty good... my fave songs are JAR, Minority and Bastetcase ..go get it!!

The only reason I could possibly see a real Green Day fan needing this is it has the song "J.A.R". I never bothered to purchase the soundtrack to the movie Angus that they originally released that song on. Other than that this seems to be a mostly re-hash of their hits from the last seven years or so. I guess, hence the name. They do the cheesy thing and slap on two new songs to try to obligate hardcore fans that have all their other records into buying this one. I would expect a little more from the boys. Personally, I would have prefered to see their early work represented on this record to acclimate less familiar fans with pre-"Dookie" era stuff, instead of having any new songs. Green Day classics like "2000 Light Years Away" and "Going to Pasalacqua" are conspicously absent and that's an awful shame for a twelve year old kid buying this thinking he's getting all of Green Day's best songs. Too bad they couldn't reach an arrangement with Lookout! if they even tried at all. I'd like to point out my 3 star rating is in no way indicative of the quality of the music or the songs that they did choose. Don't get me wrong, I love this band. That's why I'm especially disheartened that an album that should be showcasing their best work is actually full of gaping holes.
