Product Description

Green Day has defined modern rock-raw power, musical freedom, frantic energy. Now the band that sparked the neo-punk revival has earned its first "best of" collection, International Superhits! Featuring two new songs plus 19 of the band's most popular tracks from its four Reprise albums, from the debut single "Longview" to "Basket Case," "When I Come Around," "J.A.R." and "Minority," International Superhits! is a retrospective not only of Green Day but of the modern rock era. Certified Gold by the RIAA. (1/02)

Strangely for a greatest hits compilation, Green Day's International Superhits opens with two new songs recorded in 2001. "Maria" is Green Day playing to their strengths, a burst of rattling skinny tie new wave that has you itching to join the nearest mosh pit, and the cool acoustic pop of "Poprocks and Coke" is worthy of the trio's Nimrod. The implication is clear: the unfortunate diversion undertaken by 2000's Warning (where the band horrifically mutated into The Levellers) is over and now it's business as usual. Thank God for that. Although a host of skate chancers have tried to rewrite the likes of "Basket Case" and "Brain Stew", no one does punk pop better than Billie Joe and the boys. No one does it quite as intelligently either. "Longview" almost sneers at the slacker ennui it seems to embody, "Welcome to Paradise" sneaks in a cheeky steal from Dead Kennedys, and "Redundant" runs on a sublime psyche melody worth of Elliott Smith. All of which proves you don't need a potty mouth and a dull 'tude to be a real rebel--and dreadlocks and dogs on strings are a definite no no. --Ian Watson

Don't get me wrong, this long-awaited LP is fantastic. Green Day are one of the few bands of today who actually deserve a 'greatest hits' album. The only problem with this is that it's ever-so-slightly commercial. When this was released people who had never even heard of Green Day before were suddenly calling themselves their biggest fans. The truth is, you can't judge them by this. 'International Superhits' just doesn't relate to the brilliance of some of their earlier material.
Despite this, it does feature classic anthems that most people interested in buying will know. 'Basket Case' and 'Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)' are Green Day's two biggest 'superhits' (in the UK anyway). The album also features classics such as 'Longview' as well as the recently-released 'Waiting' plus two completely new tracks.
In my opinion the best tracks on this album by far are 'When I Come Around' and 'She'. I personally consider them to be classics. However I must admit that I was slightly disappointed. Although this LP features every one of Green Day's singles since they signed up with 'Reprise', plus some other songs,it misses out an awful lot of their best music. Nevertheless, for any Green Day fan, new or old, this is a must-have collection of music. Don't miss it.

Wow. Wow. This is the most amazing Cd. I love it! its my favorite!! Every single solitary song is good!! Heres a run-down of the songs, ratings and what i think about em.
Maria-This is one of the 2 new songs from Greenday making their appearence on this album. Its a good song with Greendays sound. Its still not as good as the older stuff though. 7/10
Poprocks And Coke-Heres the other new song. It has the Greenday feel od "Warning" sorta-kinda. Its a good song. 7/10
Longview-YEAH!! What an awesome song!! The bass in this song is catchy and cool and the chorus is punked out!! The drums are funky too!! 10/10
Welcome To Paridise-This is another great song with a building secton in the middle of bass, then drums and guitar, and then the verse breaks out. I dunno, i think it sounds cool. 9/10
Basketcase-You can't NOT love this song. Its all punked out and its extremly catchy...10/10
When I Come Around-Awesome song!! ...I like the solo. 10/10
She-This is a good song with a bassy intro. I like the chorus a lot for some reason. I also like the guitar work. 7/10
J.A.R. (Jason Andrew Relva)-I really like this song. its about a friend who died in a car crash. I like the ending rhyme thingy. 8/10
Geek Stink Breath-This one doesnt reallllly stand out, but i still like it. GEEK.......STINK.......BREATH!! 6/10
Brain Stew-Ahhh....I love this song. 5 chords throughout the whole song. Thats the way to go!! I love how it morphs into "Jaded." 10/10
Jaded-This is a great fast paced punk song that will have you jumpin up and down and singing along!! 10/10
Walking Contradiction-I like this song too. It sounds sorta punk-ish. I really like it though!! 9/10

This is an increidble album. You get all of Green Day's hit's and some "hits" most people probably have never heard. You also get two great new songs.
to all of you little girls who went to the Pop Disaster Tour just for blink and came out saying Green Day is now your favorite band, you guys are like really stranege. you say you never really heard Green Day before? uh, hello, theyre only one of the biggest bands out there. dont you remeber in 1994 when they exploded onto the airwaves with Basket Case? and then the had all of those other hits to follow? if not, dont you recall of in 1997 a little song called Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) came out? and then there was that song that stayed at the top of the charts for so many weeks, "Minority". so you girls have been exposed to them, you just never gave them the time of day! you girls are lying posers dont call yourself fans if the only reason you are remotley a fan is because you went to a concert because blink was there, and you hda to sit through Green Day. now, i am a big blink fan as well, but come on, blink should NOT have headlined. Green Day is obviously the much better band. but the person in charge of this concert obviously new who was coming to these shows(girls approx. aged 10-14), so they put Blink182 last so these girls would be forced to listen to the awesomenes that is Green Day,
back to the cd
its awesome, buy it, i cant skip a song, this is not my only Green Day cd, and i must say they do an excellent job of choosing songs.
and get their new CD "Shenanigans"

Caroline Sinclair has a stick up her "you know where!" She does not know what she is talking about! She probably listens to some oldies junk. OK, but anyway, this is a great CD for any Green Day fan that doesn't want to get their whole collection of Green Day CD's out and listen to them, like myself, who has all their albums, even some imports. I started listening to Green Day a while back, when I bought Kerplunk! Back to the CD. This collection of Green Day songs has all their hits, well, almost all of them. Too bad that there aren't any songs from Kerplunk! or 1039/smooth, but those CD's were recorded while they were on Lookout records, and Green Day is now on Reprise. The CD has all the hits from Dookie, like "Basket Case", "Longview", and "When I come around." The CD also has hits from Green Day's lesser known CD, Insomniac (my personal fav) like "Brain Stew" and "Geek stink breath." The songs from Nimrod are great, like "Hitchin a ride", and the radio friendly "Good riddance(time of your life)" It also has two new b-sides called "Maria" and "Poprocks and coke. The song "J.A.R.", from the Angus soundtrack is also on the CD. It is a great song and it was written by bassist Mike Dirnt. Only four songs from their latest album, Warning, are present on this CD. The best Warning song is "Waiting" and "Minority." The acoustic songs "Warning" and "Macy's day parade" are also on there. This is a CD you can listen to straight through. Every time you listen, you will appreciate and realize how good Green Day is at what they do. You will eventually memorize all the lyrics, like I did, after numerous listenings. I just saw Green Day at the Pop Disaster tour, and it made me like Green Day even more! Don't think, and buy International Superhits!, and enjoy!
