Product Description

With a longing for adventure, the last thing Phillipa Peppiwell wants is to marry. After a painful betrayal by a man she trusted, she is wary when she unwittingly catches the attention of roguishly handsome - and sinfully tempting - Lord Anthony Thornton. Forbidden desires she secretly yearns for threaten to crumble her icy facade and reveal a past scandal best kept buried.
Dissatisfied with his empty life, Lord Anthony seeks a deep and lasting connection... and finds himself intrigued by the Ice Maiden of the haute monde. Undaunted by Phillipa's aloof nature and her distaste for the idea of matrimony, he sets out to thaw the bewitching beauty by enticing her with adventures of the most sensual type. But he, too, hides a scandalous secret... and if it's discovered it could rip them apart.

This is actually book 1 I think because it starts off the whole plot for " The Duke's Shotgun Wedding " with Anthony. I liked this novella because it was so real with the silliness of the era where people who were considered very high instep could be disowned over a rumor because of their birth -although there are foolish people still today who are very judgmental as if a child is responsible. There was a lot of sex in this story - I thought the storyline could have carried itself without the subplot of Anthony's so called deviant sexual appetite.

The love scenes in this book are full of heat and warmth and passion. Some of them stood out for being rather unconventional for historical romance, and I appreciated that. Unfortunately, I didn't really find much else in the story left a strong impression. It's a quick read, suitable for a lazy afternoon

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely amazing book! Aug. 11 2014

OH EM GEE. Ms. Reid just shot to the top of my auto-buy list. Phillipa Pippiwell may be the ice queen, but all that cold turns to blistering HAWT steam when the delicious Anthony Thornton gets his hands in all the right places. The writing here is exquisite--and I don't mean overwritten, but with each word beautifully placed on the page. The plot is fresh and original, with definite twists on the usual scenarios of the era making for a truly exciting read. I found I held my breath more than once. I tensed. I happy-sighed. And yes, I swooned. The big moment at the end was amazeballs and I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so I'll just say my breath caught and I wanted to yell at a bunch of parlor-dwellers and my heart broke...THEN THE THING HAPPENED and I'm pretty sure a bug flew in my eye or something because I *may have cried* and ERMAGERD was it ever beautiful. I'm hooked, Ms. Reid. Freaking HOOKED. Amazing work.

ARC received in trade for an honest review...then I bought the book anyway. So there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love and the Lord Aug. 14 2014

The strict rules of propriety play an important part in this story. Lord Anthony Thornton just learned that he and his sister are illegitimate. Both will be cast out by their peers if their secret is revealed. When Anthony meets Miss Phillipa Peppiwell, he is attracted by her. He has met a kindred spirit and the love of his life. She wants to break free of her restraints and have adventures, but she has a secret that she needs to protect. She is not a virgin. Will these two be able to find happiness and love with each other? Stacy Reid has given us two complex and powerful characters that are trapped by what society rules as proper conduct. The story had an intriguing and thought provoking plot as well as a passionate romance. I cared for Anthony and Phillipa. They are fierce in their determination to be their own person. The secondary characters add to the story. I definitely want to know more about how Constance deals with the changes in her life. The dialogue and setting were a perfect backdrop for this book. I couldn't stop reading. I had to know what would happen next. There was so much action. I loved The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell.

2.0 out of 5 stars STORY NOT MY CUP OF TEA!!! March 17 2015

I am so sorry becasue I really wanted to like The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell, but it wasn't to be. I really didn't like the way Phillpa Peppiwell's character was written. I started skimming pages just to finish it. That's never a good thing. I never understood Lord Anthony's obsession with this ruined young lady. Who didn't seem to mine that she had been completely and utter ruined. I felt sorry that she was so foolish with her virtue, but thats about it. I gave the story 2 stars becasue I did like Anthony and wished the author had picked a better heroine for him. Maybe one like Jocelyn from the novella The Dukes Shotgun Wedding. She is also, one of the characters in this story. The story felt like Modern Romance instead of Historical Romance. I must say I am not a big Fan of the period late Victorian Romance. It close to the turn of the century. That problem is with me and not the author!! Personal Preference you can say.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait! Aug. 19 2014

Let me just say when I finished The Duke's Shotgun Wedding, book 1 in the House of Calydon series, I immediately friend-ed Stacy Reid on FB and messaged her about how much I LOVED the novella and asked when the next book was coming out. Because I needed it like five minutes before I reached the last page. So that'll just give you a clue about how much I was looking forward to her full length novel about Sebastian's brother Anthony. And I so wasn't disappointed. Actually, it exceeded what I imagined. You have a wounded hero, betrayed by the father who was supposed to love and protect him. You have the heroine with a secret of her own that makes treading the already treacherous waters of London society even more precarious. Throw in a "suitor"--and I use the term very lightly, You'll see why, because why wouldn't you buy this book?--who refuses to take "no" for an answer, and the story opens with a smoldering attraction concealed beneath a sharp battle of wits, a dance of wills, and a God-I-hate-you villain. Anthony is determined to melt Phillipa's icy exterior--an icy exterior that she's erected out of necessity against past hurts and the harsh judgments of the ton and her family. They're both wounded and watching them come together, both emotionally as well as in SUPER HOT love scenes, is what romance is all about. Breath-taking romance. The kind that has you placing your hand over your heart while you're reading. I loved the drama, the back-and-forth that was dry, witty and funny but so vulnerable, too. Anthony and Phillipa both won me over from page one. All I have to say is the scene in the ballroom...the declaration... I'm not saying anymore because it would spoil the moment, but oh wow. I sighed, I freaking clapped! LOL! I really did! It was so awesome. I loved The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell, and it will go back on my TBR pile so I can read it again...and again... Looking forward to more books by Stacy Reid! Impatiently looking forward, I might add...

5.0 out of 5 stars Another hit by Stacy Reid! May 24 2015

Stacy Reid's The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell, a book in the Calydon series, is one of those novels that is painful to put down and takes over your thoughts the next day at work while you wonder what will happen to the characters next.

Phillipa Peppiwell, an heiress from Baltimore, is know as the "Ice Maiden", a persona she perfected to avoid a relationship that would require the bonds of marriage. She craves independence, travel, adventure, and most importantly, freedom from the strictures of society and her family.

Lord Anthony Thorton, heir to a dukedom, who wishes for a family, is drawn to Miss Peppiwell, and is destined to break through her icy facade. After coming to Phillipa's rescue more than once to avoid a persistent suitor, he witnesses her fire and passion and knows he has found the woman for the rest of his life.

Both hold onto secrets that will ruin them and their families. Each has a sister to consider and do not wish to destroy them in society and wreck their ability to marry well. That the hero and heroine pulling back somewhat, but the scorching attraction between them cannot be denied.

This is the second book I have read in the series and will not miss another of Ms. Reid's books. This is a beautifully written Regency romance with challenges that existed in society at that time with the characters desire to overcome them. The heat and sex scenes are amazing.

I highly recommend this powerfully romantic novel. I look forward to Constance's story.
