HASH(0xa99fc690) out of 5 stars Sugar Booger/Brightening Day Oct. 30 2001
By Jarom Morgan - Published on
Not the best Weezer single, but good enough for the true fans. I was suprised to learn that all the b-sides so far released have been penned by Rivers. (During the "Green Album" recording sessions, it was said that both Pat Wilson and Bryan Bell would be contributing songs.)
"Sugar Booger" is one of the better "Green" b-sides to date, measuring up well next to "Green" outtakes like "Starlight" (a great song!). "Brightening Day", however, is much less enjoyable. A throwaway, even. It's quirkiness is its only redeeming factor.
Overall, not a highly recommended single unless you're a die-hard fan. I would definitely suggest the "Hash Pipe" b-sides over these. But "Sugar Booger" is worth the price.

HASH(0xa9a1cb58) out of 5 stars Weezer B sides Nov. 14 2001

are always good, sometimes great. I'm going to go on record and say that either "Sugar Booger" or "Brightening Day" could have easly been on the Green album. Both songs are cool and deserve to be in your Weezer colection.

HASH(0xa9a58b34) out of 5 stars This is an exceptionally good single Feb. 7 2003

Whoever said that the song Brightening Day from this single is a throwaway song is dead wrong! I can't emphasize this enough!!!That song is what makes this lil' single kick. It's a quick, punkish song with GREAT lyrics (I don't normally even bring up lyrics in a review) and really good feel. I can say that I think it wouldn't fit with the other tracks on the Green Album, but it's a very welcome addition to this single. Sugar Booger is also a good track.
Although it doesn't say anything about it here, this single has great packaging. It comes in a cool green cardboard sleeve that's embossed with the =W= logo and includes a cool photograph of the band that's slipped into the case with the cd. Very classy.
This single is well worth the money for almost any Weezer fan.
HASH(0xb74cc3cc) out of 5 stars Great Single May 6 2005

The title track for this single is "Island in the Sun," which, though it isn't bad, is actually the worst song on the single. The second track, "Sugar Booger," is pretty good. About on the same level as the last four tracks on the Green Album. "Brightening Day" is what makes this single. I agree with the review below, the lyrics are good but the melodie is the best! If this had been on the Green Album it would have been my favorite track. Well, you can always count on Weezer to have great B-sides.
