This book is phenomenal - from the front matter pages, the introduction, the 481 pages of detail, plus references. Dr Kharrazian clearly understands his patients and their distress. The information in this book gave me answers to issues no other specialist could address after my neurosurgery. The nutritional advice is so helpful; I had implemented much of what he recommends the year prior with tremendous results. I followed the book's additional recommendations for four months and immediately began to see more improvements. Dr Kharrazian has a brilliant mind, a sincere heart, two very open ears, sans ego, and is now my rock star doctor. I am SO grateful this book led me to his clinic and was so glad this book outlines a lot of the initial work one can do to help oneself before that first appointment. I am so grateful for his dedication to this specialty within functional medicine.

Amazing info. I respect and agree with Dr Kharrazian's attitude about doctors who tell patients they are making up symptoms. Dat is Kharrazian is extremely intelligent and he thoroughly knows and explains the in and outs of how neurotransmitters affect our health and what we can do about it. When conventional wisdom tells us that neurotransmitters can become imbalanced but cannot be RE-balanced and therefore only medications will help, I always questioned that. It's erroneous to say an imbalance is indefinite and cannot be reversed. Kharrazian explains and practices and teaches other practitioners that neurotransmitter and/it hormone imbalance can be improved or even corrected!!

This book is fantastic! It is the missing link in the study I have done on health and emotional wellness to date and puts everything together. It has the potential to make an enormous impact on the health of the public, in general. More people, both health care practitioners and people trying to heal themselves and their families, need to be educated about the brain and how to care for it. Thank you to Dr. Kharrazian for creating such an valuable resource - one that I will refer to time and time again!

Lots of cherry picked data. I wrote Dr. Kharrazzian to ask for clarity to explain statements he makes that do not have references to support them. He never replied. I contacted him also via Twitter with the same question, he never replied. He makes money from the very supplements he recommends and so that makes his assertions questionable at best. His position on serotonin is unclear, 95% of it is made in the gut in response to stress like fibre, yet he doesn't talk about this. He doesn't clarify if the serotonin in the gut can affect the brain directly via the blood brain barrier or indirectly via the vagus nerve and serotonins systemic effects. He recommends so many changes that how could you know which was working? Lets take sugar for example. Every single carbohydrate you eat from simple table sugar, and honey, right up to potatoes and squashes, etc. are all converted to glucose (short chain saccarides) before passing through the stomach wall and being absorbed. You can't use them until then so in essence a small amount of potato is the same as a small amount of dextrose (excluding the fibre and any other potential irritants and other chemicals like lectins found along side longer chain sugars), glucose (dextrose) runs everything preferentially in the body and Hemoglobin will only run on glucose. yet he demonizes it without giving context. So if you are eating macdonalds (real processed food) which is full of PUFA and other chemicals, he only sees sugar as the problem... yet its clear from the evidence that PUFA (polyunsaturated fats, industrial seed oils) which have replaced saturated fats like butter, tallow, and coconut oil since the early 1900's is the real culprit.Read more ›
