I only rate 5 stars if something blows away my expectations. Don't let the fact that this speaker is rated 4 starts sway you. It has been everything I could have hoped for!
I got this speaker after trying two separate JBL flip4"s and A Blackweb (from Walmart) and listening to many, many Bluetooth speakers. Including Bose Soundlink 2, UE Boom, and just about anything in store that I could listen to.
The Charge 3 , in my opinion, fits my needs the best.
The Flip 4's were very treble oriented and (curiously) one didn't sound the same as the other. I ordered two separately to take advantage of a lower price on Amazon. Thus returning the other. The second one sounded worse?! But neither fit the bill.
The blackweb (purchased at Wally world) isn't even in the conversation! It has no Bass and the treble is terrible! But I think I paid 30$ for it , so yeah I can see the problem.
The Charge is the only other speaker I've listened to in my home.(the rest were in store).
For my taste it is a wonderful speaker full of rich Bass and controlled highs that aren't quite as bright as I'd like , but are waaaaay better than a "Too Bright" speaker (see Flip4) that hurts your ears with sharp crashes of sound. The Mids are OK for my type of music.
If you want an idea of the type of music this speaker shines on, listen to the following.
'Lola And Joseph' by July Talk
'Show biz kids' by Rickie Lee Jones
'Blood in the cut' By K.Flay
If these are songs and sounds that appeal to you, then this is the speaker for you!
I'm sure it would shine for Rap and HipHop also.
All in all, I'm quite pleased with this speaker and the fact that it floats in water helped seal the deal. Water rafting here I come!
