About the Author

Né le 22 novembre 1869 à Paris, André Gide fait partie de l'entourage littéraire de Mallarmé et de Valéry dès 1891. Il fonde avec quelques amis La Nouvelle Revue Française en 1908, donnant trois ans plus tard aux Editions de la N.R.F. l'une de leurs toutes premières publications, Isabelle. Par son ouvre, ses prises de position, ses nombreuses amitiés et ses voyages, il exerce durant l'entre-deux-guerres et au-delà un véritable magistère. Il reçoit le prix Nobel de Littérature en 1947 et meurt à Paris le 19 février 1951.
