Poor formatting spoils
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 4, 2013Verified Purchase
When I bought this edition I read that the formatting had been improved and I expected that I would have no problems with it. However it still has a long way to go. The text is in the public domain with no copyright so I regard the price paid to be for putting it into a easy to use format and it isn't worth the amount I paid. Frequently there will be one line of text with only one or two words on the next line. The breaks do not correspond with the end of a sentence or the end of a verse and there is no obvious logic to it. Using the contents page will allow you to reach a particular book in the Bible but there is no way that I can see that allows you to select a chapter, other than pressing the button for the next page repeatedly. When some of the books have a large number of chapters (up to 150 in the case of the Psalms) this is incredibly tedious. This formatting is why I have given the book only one star. I am including a few comments on the text itself for anyone unfamiliar with it but please don't think my star rating relates to the content of the text. The text of the authorised version of the bible has stood the test of time and many of the phrases in it have passed into common usage in the English language. The translation is more literal than some others. The language is archaic although often beautiful and poetic but the meaning of some of the words has changed so it is not always easy for the modern reader to understand.

A poor Kindle presentation
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 25, 2011Verified Purchase
This appears to be a PDF version of the book converted to the Kindle. There is no active table of contents. There are no line breaks after verses so the chapter/verse numbers appear in-line with the text which makes the text dense and difficult to read. Book headings are on a new line but follow on immediately below the last line of the previous book which adds to the difficulty of navigating to a required book.
The only way of navigating this book is use the search facility.
All the introductory text of the original bible is present and the Apocrypha book is also present.
I do not recommend this version of the King James Bible - try and find a version that has proper formatting and a linked Table of Contents.

Still room for improvement
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 16, 2011Verified Purchase
In line with the update to the product information, there is indeed now an active contents list with links to beginnings of books - but not chapters or verses. This is clearly an advance and, particularly given the price, this version is usable. There are still drawbacks, however. Full chapter/verse linking would be good. Throughout, and on every page, there are some very odd and unncecessary line breaks with spacing that interferes with reading. (That is, there still seems to be a problem with justifying the text left and right.) Chapter/verse numbers are very obtrusive, and appear in the middle of lines (how often will depend on the settings you use). Still embedded in the text and present on the contents page are page numbers from the book used as the basis for this digital version; I cannot think of any purpose these might serve for Kindle. In the 'Translators' Preface' there are instances of '[Greek characters omitted]'. There is a shortage of bibliographical information (which book forms the basis of the text? who is Christopher Baird and what are his qualifications for editing this work? etc.) In short, this still feels like a work in progress. I have been unable to find any other Kindle version of the KJV that both does navigability and presentation better and includes the Apocrypha. I hope therefore this will continue to be improved. Personally I would also value a version of the KJV interlineated with the Vulgate. I suggest that anyone interested in seeing how well all these issues can be addressed look at the Kindle Douay-Rheims/Vulgata Clementina Diglot Bible - no lineation problems, discreet superscript chapter numbers, clear spacing. Excellent!
Further to these comments: Since writing the above I have discovered that the publisher of the Douay-Rheims/Vulgate edition referred to above also publishes Kindle versions of the KJV. These are also excellent. One of them is for sale in the Amazon.co.uk Kindle Store, but this version retains original spelling, which some may find awkward. The publisher also does a version for Kindle with modernized spelling, which I thoroughly recommend for both presentation and navigation, but at the moment of writing (18/6/11) this is not listed through Amazon.co.uk. To find it, go to Osnova.com, who have a straightforward downloading and payment system.

Description Untrue
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 9, 2017Verified Purchase
If you click on the "go to" on the Kindle - there is no table of contents. At all. All you can do is guess the location or search. Despite this being specifically advertised as having linked contents. Somewhat useless. If I could find a way of returning it, I would.

King James Bible with Apocrypha[[ASIN:B004L62CQY
Afraid that I am in agreement with other reviewers and find this a very disappointing effort.
There is no proper index to assist quick referencing. For the Bible, this is important. One cannot work from start to end when what is required is Book, Chapter and verse. The latter is no problem provided there is quick reference access to the 66 books and numerous Chapters in each.
