About the Author
Jamie Oliver grew up in his parents' country pub, the Cricketers in Clavering, where he started cooking at the age of eight, before studying at London's Westminster Catering College. He then went on to work with some of the top chefs in England namely Antonio Carluccio at the Neal Street Restaurant and Rose Gray and Ruth Rogers at the River Cafe. The author of such popular titles as The Naked Chef, Jamie's Kitchen, and Jamie's Italy, among others, he has written for the Saturday Times, served as Food Editor at GQ and Marie Claire magazines, and hosted the popular television show The Naked Chef. The second season of the ABC show Food Revolution will air in Spring 2011. He is thirty-five and lives in London with his wife Jools and their children, Poppy, Daisy, Petal, and Buddy Bear.

This cookbook is laid out in a meal format, where a recipe includes multiple courses such as starter - salad, main, dessert and sometimes a drink is included as well. This is something that I personally enjoy. Sometimes, choosing multiple recipes for one meal can be tedious (the choosing alone, much less than flipping thorough the book). I find that having the recipes set up this way helps me choose what to have as a complete meal. If I am cooking just one course from the recipe, the way the book is laid out doesn't make it too difficult to read selective headings belonging to that recipe.
Some of the recipes that I have tried and recommend include:
Cheat's pizza - be careful not to burn it! I didn't make the sides for this one.
Chicken pie with french style peas sweet carrot smash and berries, shortbread and cream for dessert - loved everything about this recipe! My kids didn't enjoy the peas though. Be careful not too overcook the peas while waiting for the pie to bake. I added extra sugar to the berries.
Mustard chicken with dauphinoise and black forest affogato - Didn't expect to enjoy mustard chicken this much, the leek adds a nice touch. The dauphinoise (we would call it scalloped potatoes) take a lot longer to bake that recommended, in my experience. I did not add the anchovies, I was worried the kids wouldn't like it. The affogate is a great quick dessert but my wife did not enjoy.
Killer jerk chicken with rice and beans and char grilled corn- chicken has an amazing flavour. I didn't like frying the beans and would recommend maybe boiling or microwaving them instead. I didn't make the chopped salad.Read more ›
