I really liked this book. :) It's easy to follow, I like the explanations, and it's not murderously expensive to get your hands on the ingredients required. For people who like natural beauty care and the Japanese way of life, this is a treasure worth having.

Must read for those going all-natural
Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2015Verified Purchase
I went to beauty school, started questioning the ingredients in the products we buy, and set out to find a natural skin care routine. There are other great books on the topic (Treat Your Face Like a Salad) but this one has the benefit of hundreds of years of Japanese tradition backing up the efficacy of the routines. Some things are a bit hard to locate (bush warbler droppings, Camellia nut oil...) but most are just kitchen items (fruits, veggies, teas, oils, salt).
The most valuable lessons from this book are the concepts though. The skin needs much less intervention than it gets these days, balance is what makes it healthy. What you eat and drink is as important as what you put on the surface. Simple, edible ingredients are better than preservative-filled expensive creams. Traditional Japanese bathing is covered, which changed the way I bathe for good (I want to build a wooden furo!), as well as hair care (this has been hard to adapt with thin, light hair instead of thick Asian hair, but I'm determined).
If you are looking for a better way to personal care, this is a book for you.

Christmas gift for my daughter

She was thrilled when she opened this gift. Hardback cover(which she loves for ALL her books), great quality, no dog eared pages, & neatly wrapped in brown paper(I left the original wrapping on it & just placed in a box wrapped in Christmas paper). I was well pleased at the condition of the book as well & the care that was shown by the seller in the packaging of the book for shipping.

This is a great book for the recipes I especially love the sea tangle shampoo. However her other books are exactly the same(I checked the 2 books I have, inner peace outer beauty is my other one, and the writing and recipes are the same to the t) so please don't make the same mistake as I did and only buy one of her books.

I love this book. I've always felt that Japanese beauty care is the healthiest way and finding this book is the best! the bird droppings method is kinda gross though...but everything else is excellent.
