Jillian Michaels is TV's toughest trainer, but she is committed to getting big results. As your own personal trainer, Jillian will guide you through her exclusive 3-2-1 Interval System that combines strength, cardio and abs to blast through calories for a dramatic 30 DAY SHRED. The program includes three complete 20-minute workouts which progress by level of intensity. Start with Level 1 and advance through Level 3 – in no time you'll achieve a lean, shredded body.
When Jillian Michaels says "you can lose up to 20 pounds in 30 days" by following her 20-minute-a-day workout, believe her. There's a reason her 30 Day Shred workout has become a national hit: it works. But anyone who's ever seen Michaels work out with contestants on The Biggest Loser knows it's not necessarily going to be easy. The 30 Day Shred features three 20-minute workouts, each of which features, in rapid succession, short bursts of strength, cardio, and abs, and a cool-down. Sound easy? Think again. Even the beginner-level workout will have users' heart rates up. Michaels allows no resting between each short burst of exercise, which is part of why the results happen so quickly. The transitions between strength, which can feature classic moves like pushups or reps with small weights, and cardio, and then between cardio and abs, are a mere second or two. But that pacing helps guarantee the results that Michaels touts. "This helps you burn more fat and more calories, and gets you toned that much faster," Michaels exhorts as she zips through the exercises. There are a few modified moves for true beginners, but even for them, Michaels doesn't cut much slack; everyone has to do real jumping jacks, and a lot of them. "I have 400-pound people who can do jumping jacks," Michaels says "and if they can do it, you can do it!" The only thing you need to jump into the 30 Day Shred is a set of small hand weights, and, if you have a hard floor, a mat for the floor moves. Otherwise, commit 20 minutes a day for a month, and get that lean, shredded body you've always wanted. --A.T. Hurley

30 days of the 30 Day Shred definitely tones my arms, lifts my butt and strengthens my core (abs and back muscles). I love that it gives me QUICK results. It's challenging, but it REALLY pays off. Three tips: 1: If you are bouncy up top, definitely wear a sports bra, 2: Use an exercise mat if you have one (your knees will thank you later), and 3: Start off with light weights (maybe 3 pounds) before moving up to 5 pounds, to prevent sore biceps.
I love the 3 levels of intensity during the workouts.
Jillian and her 2 assistants show the viewer modified work outs for your activity and ability level. Level 1,2 and 3 for each person for the viewer to follow.
Jillian is very good at explaining each workout and encouraging the viewer.
In the main menu you can also choose what intensity you would prefer.
During the video, you can pause it but there are no options to select through to certain parts, so you have to start right over and it runs start to finish.
I enjoy the workout routines and have found them very effective!
I started with level 1 and did the beginner exercises. I had to take little breaks (5 seconds here and there), but powered through. The exercises aren't hard in what you actually have to do (jumping jacks, push ups etc), but they still give you a good work out. I was sore for the next 2 days and took time off to heal, but started again on day 3. It gets progressively easier the more you do it and you get stronger and are able to keep up better if you continue with it. So don't give up!
30 days suggests 10 days per level but I would stick with level 1 (or 2) for as long as you need, whether thats 10 days or more or less. It took me longer than 10 days to move on to level 2 etc.
She's encouraging in the video so it makes you want to keep going even when you're exhausted. Based on the actual exercise I do the beginner version or expert (some muscles are stronger than others). So do what you can but don't give up.
I could feel and see my muscles get stronger, my stamina got better and my clothes fit better. I didn't actually lose any weight, but I'm not that heavy to begin with so I figured I'm gaining muscle as I lost some fat. I just go based on how my clothes fit instead of the number on the scale. Also, my knees were fine. I started off beginner version and as my thighs got stronger, I did the advanced levels and I think all that helped my knees so I didn't have any knee pain.
So I definitely recommend this video, especially for those who are starting out and are too intimidated to go to the gym.
