HASH(0x9c583d08) out of 5 stars Now I know what maestro means Feb. 8 2013

I was thirteen when Star Wars hit the theaters and every part of it blew my mind away. I can't not cry when I hear the bicycle chase music from ET. Who among people my age doesn't do the hand motions along with the five notes from Close Encounters? The man has written the soundtrack to my youth, and listening to the delicate power of his music is a rejuvenating thalidomide to my soul. I think that the age of the symphony is long past. Can you name a current composer that has written a symphony comperable in popularity to Mozart, Bethoven, Janecek? I can list the music from at least 10 films that John Williams has written. Do not miss this album.

HASH(0x9c5841b0) out of 5 stars Nice gift for yourself or others Feb. 18 2015

Outstanding collection of work by this master. I cannot compare this CD to his others, but this collection is an excellent gift for yourself. Note that the "Birthday" aspect of this collection actually is a birthday orchestral piece. I could live without it but will still give this work a 5 star rating.

In our home, any music Mr. Williams directs is a favorite. What a talent. This CD is a beautiful reminder of his vast work and influence. And...even the familiar tune, Happy Birthday To You, will never be heard quite the same again. :-) the max!
