Journey of Souls is a controversial yet inspiring investigation of the big question we all face at one point or another: "What happens after we die?" To find the answer, Newton opens cases from his private practice in which he hypnotically regressed his clients to a point between lives--after death, but before birth. Not only does Newton grapple with reincarnation, the spirit world, and the nature of the human soul, he also tackles equally sticky questions such as "Is there a Heaven and Hell?" and "What are ghosts?" Readers with a penchant for skepticism will balk at the lack of physical evidence to back up the claims in Journey of Souls, but the book remains a reassuring voice, affirming that our existence is not limited to the boundaries of our mortal flesh. --Brian Patterson
About the Author
Michael Newton, Ph.D., holds a doctorate in Counseling Psychology, is a certified Master Hypnotherapist, and is a member of the American Counseling Association. He has also been on the faculty of higher educational institutions as a teacher while active in private practice in Los Angeles. Over many years, Dr. Newton developed his own intensive age regression techniques in order to effectively take hypnosis subjects beyond their past life memories to a more meaningful soul experience between lives. He is considered to be a pioneer in uncovering the mysteries about life after death through the use of spiritual hypnotic regression. He now trains other advanced hypnotherapists in his techniques.
Dr. Newton is the author of three best-selling books, Journey of Souls: Case Studies of Life Between Lives (Llewellyn, 1994) , Destiny of Souls: New Case Studies of Life Between Lives (Llewellyn, May 2000), and Life Between Lives: Hypnotherapy for Spiritual Regression (Llewellyn, 2004). Dr. Newton has an international reputation as a spiritual regressionist who has mapped out much of our life between lives experience. He has appeared on numerous national radio and TV talk shows to explain our immortal life in the spirit world.

' Soul life survival after death is not connected to our religious affiliation or compliance with any doctrinal salvation. (So much for getting saved out of fear of not reaching the celestial realm.)
' We belong to a learning group or cluster comprised of souls at a similar level of development to our own. Although we may visit with souls with whom we have shared our earthly lives most of these will not belong to the same learning group as us.
' Returning souls are rehabilitated and go through an orientation and healing process as necessary. Everyone has a designated place in the spirit world.
' Soul development takes place on a number of levels. We progress as we mature spiritually. We bear responsibility in the evolution of higher consciousness for ourselves as well as others.
' Discordant negative forces emanate from ourselves if we cultivate them through anger or fear. They do not attack us from external demonic realms or entities.
' Any mental communication (e.g. affirmations, decrees, prayers or meditation) we use to reach a God-head is monitored and aided by higher entities. We are never alone.
' We are in close relationship with our spiritual guides.Read more ›
This book did more to convince me than any other. The author's careful, consistent and scientific approach was the key for me. Reading this book was like reading the notes from a scientist's journal, for Dr. Newton admits he was a skeptical non-believer in the beginning as well. The author's follow-on book (Destiny of Souls) is also quite good in this respect, but it does not break much new ground.
I did a regression with one of the author's students (several years after I read JOS for the first time) and was deeply moved by the experience. The regression helped confirm strong intuitions I was having regarding an individual I had known in my youth and helped explain dozens of baffling and often bizarre dreams I had been having about this individual over a nearly 20 year period. These were dreams that went back to many earlier periods in American history, the 1920s/30s and late 1800s, specifically, and confirmed a close family connection in those past lives (I have had other dreams since that suggest at least one additional shared lifetime in 1700s England).
I would have never fully grasped or appreciated the origin of these dreams without the information presented in this book.Read more ›
When I began my spiritual journey 25 years ago, there were two things that I held out in my mind about what a God 'should be like'. If there was one, He/She would reveal Herself/Himself to humans both in a universal manner and one that alligned itself with the concept that we call 'common sense'. Any thought, philosophy, religion or tenet that fell outside of these two simple objectives would not be coming from a power that is greater than us nor one who desired that we find Him/Her. Any complex thoughts or irrational concepts would be coming from mankind itself and, being so, would not be universal nor simplistic. These human concepts would have an objective that differed from an openness to God that we, as people, would need. Obviously, in my journey the number of man-made tenets vs. simplistic and open ideas tilted totally towards the unbelievable and structered and away from one that was the open and simplistic conditions that I felt were necessary.
Mr. Newton's summary of persons who were hypnotized into the realms between lives, while on the surface appear to be confusing and distracting, in essence reflect the simplistic openness that we all seek. The revelations of the patients in his care not only cross the threshold into common sense and are universal but describe the purpose that we have for living our short lives on this planet very clearly and objectively.Read more ›
