The skinny: Joy McCarthy, holistic nutritionist and healthy food expert for Steven and Chris, has published her first book.

The pros: The first half lays out some healthy eating solutions, talks about supplements, and give great health tips. Her recipes are quite simple, with not a lot of expensive or rare ingredients.

The cons: While I appreciate the recipes and health tips, I felt that this book is for someone who is just starting on a healthy path, which I chose almost a decade ago. (As such, it's an ideal gift for a college student living on their own for the first time.)

Rip out this page: Page 116, featuring a 10-day healthy-eating plan that's great for menu and grocery planning. It's a savvy way to stay on budget, and to keep yourself from reaching for that 3 p.m. bag of chips.

The aftertaste: If you're interested in getting healthy, ditching diets, and learning more about holistic eating, this book is a 10/10.

I was so excited to receive this stunning book. "Joyous Health" has turned out to be the perfect new year, new me addition to my life. I have been looking for a "lifestyle" book that offers both clean eating, healthy lifestyle tips as well as simple and yummy recipes that cater to someone who doesn't live around the corner from a 'specialty foods' shop. The recipes are not only easy to do (beet/goat cheese dip - yuuumm!!) but also deliciously nutritious! This combination is hard to find. Not only does Joy offer stunning pictures to go along with recipes, but she also gives nutritious tips, ideas and personal anecdotes. The ingredients are affordable and simple to incorporate into my grocery shopping list and as a Mom of 2 little ones, that makes a difference in so many ways. I can't wait to try more recipes and read further into the lifestyle section - which is page after page of information- written in a fun and engaging way. I highly reccommend this book to anyone who wants to make or continue to make that important healthy shift in their lives but in a gentle, uncomplicated way.

I'm not sure what to think of the book. On the one hand there is a lot of useful information in the first half of the book that everyone can benefit from. And for that I would give the book 4 1/2 stars. However, when it comes to the recipes in the last part of the book, I wasn't that impressed. The recipes seem quite "fancy" and often call for ingredients that the average person just isn't going to buy, or simply can't afford to. That's not to say that the recipes don't look delicious -they do. I just don't think they are for everyone. Sadly, some of the people who could really benefit from the great health tips and recipes in this book simply would not be able to afford the ingredients necessary. I guess that's more of a comment on our society, rather than the book.

The first part of the book is all advice and where I think the value is. Some of the recipes look great, but are pretty unrealistic in my opinion. I bought the ingredients for a couple of recipes and it was over $100 for a single bag of groceries. There are a lot less expensive ways to eat healthy and organic!

I’ve fallen in love with this book, it’s bright colors, fun recipes and tips for living a healthy life style I just can’t seem to put it down. It’s truly inspiring!! My absolute favorite so far is the Chocolate Protein Square, simple delicious. I know exactly what in it and can say all the name of the ingredients, not like a protein bar off the shelf. Clean diet is so important, know what you’re eating! “Eat and Live Well Without Dieting” will guide you to eat clean. I consciously try to eat and live well, this book makes it fun and easy too. I now enjoy cooking and baking more than ever, since her book arrived I’m always in the kitchen. It’s more than just a book full of recipes, it’s an inspirations guide to living a healthy lifestyle, full of great tips and ideas.

I consider myself kind of a health nut and have read many wellness books, but never have I come across a book so comprehensive. This book does not just focus on food (although the recipes, especially the desserts, are to die for!) but it also provides recommendations for supplements, exercise, etc. I really loved it and each page was full of new information that was presented in a way that keeps you engaged. I have learned so much from this book and will recommend it to anyone.
