HASH(0x9fb7cf9c) out of 5 stars Great starter May 14 2011
By DB - Published on
Format: Paperback
This book contains three plans: a weekend juice blitz, a 7 day juice detox, and juice-for-life (which is more like a guideline than an actual plan). There are a lot of recipes in each section along with suggested supplements to include. I liked that the plans include a decent amount of food and not just juices.

I did the 7 day juice detox because I had been eating poorly and wanted to feel clean and healthy, not necessarily to lose weight. I did lose a few pounds, and felt very cleansed by the end. I also never felt hungry. This book did exactly what I wanted it to do. I will probably buy a juice recipe book to continue juicing, but there were some good recipes in this one too that I will use again. If you need an easy plan that tells you exactly what to do, this one is for you.

Just a warning: following the plan (especially the 7 day) is a bit pricey, just because of all the produce and supplements (like psyllium husks and milk thistle tincture), but I felt it was worth it!

HASH(0x9ff063a8) out of 5 stars I am so amazed! Nov. 27 2011

My husband and I began a new life style by going, 1st vegetarian, then, vegan, and wanted to add juicing. We had no idea where to begin. The Juice Diet, gave us so much insight.
We have been juicing through the weekend. I have not been hungry, and feel so dang darn good!! Everyhting we made from the recipes are so amazingly fabulous! Nothing yucky. Amazing taste in all the juices! This book is more than a recipe book or a diet book, it is a " way of life" book.
Through this new life plan, I have lost so much weight feel great and am so excited to add juicing to the plan! Amazing for me to say being the former obese junk food-aholic. Life is so good!
Get the book! You will not be disappointed!

HASH(0x9f928c9c) out of 5 stars Great recipes to help you get your 6-a-day Feb. 21 2013

I don't really enjoy eating vegetables -- all that preparation, steaming, worrying about preserving the nutrients, etc. But following the recipes in this great book, I can put veggies and fruit into my juicer and drink the equivalent of a salad. And it tastes really good! The book arranges the recipes into groups of juices to boost the immune system, make your skin and hair glow, give you energy, help you sleep, etc. There are diet regimens, too. There's lots of variety in the combinations, and almost every recipe I've tried has been delicious. I've heard a rumor that the recommendations are moving to 9 servings of fruits and veggies each day, but I can do that with this book!

HASH(0x9f92330c) out of 5 stars Great for those who need structure! May 30 2013

This is not a book of some juice cleanse where you starve yourself for a week and gain it all back. It lays out healthy small meals and snacks between three juices a day, and has options for either a week or weekend detox. Other than these cleanses it also has a large number of great recipes with pictures and explanations of what the ingredients will do for you. This is by far my favorite, as when I am not detoxing I will use various recipes based on what I want. This book is a great place to start for those who are either new to juicing or want to learn more about the specific benefits of particular juices!
HASH(0x9f96dfe4) out of 5 stars I'm a new woman! April 24 2015

This book has revolutionized my life. Seriously.

I tried the "Reboot with Joe" juice diet as well as a few others, but I was always hungry no matter what. This diet, which allows you to choose from three types and durations of programs (or to do them consecutively), includes the kinds of meals and snacks I would naturally have anyway (salads loaded with vegetables, hummus and crudités, herbal teas, nuts and seeds, olives and artichoke hearts), so it's not in any way the kind of departure from the norm that the occasionally very strange meal recipes of RWJ represent (which also require lots of planning, preparation and acclimatization to incorporate). Also, whereas RWJ requires often drinking the same kind of juice two days in a row, this one includes an incredible variety of juices with no overlap—and I have yet to try one that isn't delicious. The juices are not only tasty and (many of them) atypical, they also include such things as small amounts of plain yogurt, flax seed meal and green superfood powders (no specific brand, so it's easier). I found I wasn't really losing weight doing the food and juice together because it's such a nutrient-dense diet, but cutting out much of the food solved the problem. The juices by themselves are very substantial and surprisingly energizing; I really feel like I'm getting a wide and plentiful variety of nutrients each day. It was new to me to be adding anything at all to my juice, but the additions really do help make the juices a true meal replacement while meeting your needs for such things as essential fatty acids (EFAs).

I also completely love the way this book is laid out. It includes a complete shopping list for each program as well as a thorough rundown of everything you're to consume each day, broken down in order by meal and snack (e.g., breakfast, mid-morning snack, lunch, mid-afternoon snack, and so on). The juices are in bold type and include recipe page numbers for each listing. Any homemade foods (like bean and veggie soup) include simple recipes right there in the text so you don't have to keep flipping to other pages to find and make them. The covers have page-marker flaps so it literally could not be easier to go back and forth from the daily lists to the juice recipes. I also found it much easier to adjust the diet to exclude or replace items as needed than I've found it with any other book. It just has a really intuitive layout. Thought and care have been given to making the book and each plan as user-friendly as possible. Even the suggestions included, especially for selecting a plan(s), are valuable—not the kind of basic advice that anyone with an ounce of common sense would already know or that would be immediately self-evident.

I've been juicing a long time and have many books and a Word document I made of favorite recipes, but this book contains many items and combinations that I had never tried, and that have turned out to be both delicious and surprisingly filling. Major bonus: I've been trying to replicate Whole Foods' fabulous "Belly Rub" juice for ages and there's a recipe in this book that tastes almost the same. Score! This book is a winner in every way. Even if you're juicing for health and not to lose weight, it's worth getting this one just for the recipes.
