Just Human (Just Human #1)

Meet Liv and Danny…

Liv loves Danny. She knows she loves him more than he loves her, so she lets him go without a fight when his parents make him move back to America. She knows she will never love anyone like she loved him, but she has to move on.

Danny loves Liv. He knows he loves her more than she loves him, because she does nothing to get him to stay, so he goes quietly when his parents leave the UK. He knows he will never love anyone like he loved her, but he has to move on.

Twelve years on, they have made a good job of pretending, they may have almost forgotten. But when they get in touch via Facebook, it seems that it is all still there. They quickly find that they are intensely compatible in ways they hadn’t even begun to explore before they were forced apart.

Can they put aside their fears and give it a go? Or will deep rooted doubts and insecurities tear them apart?

* I liked the characters
* liked the humour
* liked how romantic Danny is
* the sex scene were very sexy

* I hate cliffhangers (especially ones like this one that actually feel like the author just divided one book into two).
* not enough tension (until the end) to keep me interested

3.0 out of 5 stars Danny and Liv left me hanging! Aug. 26 2013
By E. Chick - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
3+ stars. Loved the beginning, but it kind of tapered off for me towards the middle.

I loved Liv! She was so cool. I wanna throw that out there first thing. Her spunky personality was my favorite part of the book. Don't get me wrong, Danny was great, but LIV...Liv...would totally be my BFF in real life.

Just Human is about Liv reconnecting with her childhood sweetheart, Danny. They had a special love when they were younger, but when Danny's family moved back to the U.S., they had to let their relationship go. 12 years later they reconnect through Facebook. I loved the social networking aspect of the book. I found myself giggling while reading their flirty messages. I get frustrated when books leave out the texting/cell phone communication aspect of relationships. When characters are like "I have no idea where he is? How do I find out?" I'm thinkin'.... what is this? The Stone Ages? Pick up your cell phone and call the man! My point is, it was a realistic take on modern day relationships and that was refreshing.

My third favorite part of the book was that first sex scene. HOLY. HOTTASTIC! (new word). It was so freaking hot. Sexy. Hot. There was no...let's ease into the sex part of the book.....It was...BOOM! Let me throw you right into this freaking hot scene without testing the water. AND I LOVED IT. Danny and Liv were lighting up the pages with their blazing scenes!

I liked the first half of the book the best. Things are pretty much hearts and flowers for the last half. When you hit about 95%, shit hits the fan. Yep, you are in for a cliffy with this one. I have to say, it's not THAT bad. I mean, they'll be ok. I know that. Logically I know that it's going to be fine. I've read some pretty brutal cliffhangers and this one doesn't rank that high on the cliffhanger scale. On a scale of 1 to Sins & Needles by Karina Halle, you're looking at a about a 4. I'd rank it right below Beauty from Pain by Georgia Cates. --I realize this scale makes no sense, but do you get me? Yeah? Great! :)

In other words, the cliffy won't leave you in need of therapy like when you finished reading Collide by Gail McHugh. haha! It'll just leave you wanting more. Overall, this was a sweet and sexy story and I can't wait to find out what happens with Danny and Liv in book 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book! Loved Liv and Danny! July 20 2013
By Liz King - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Just Human was amazing! I just finished reading it, and I am already pacing the room wanting to read the next in the series, Still Human! Kerry Heavens is a phenomenal writer! This book was a fantastic balance of sexiness, humor, romance and tension.

Liv has loved Danny all her life. Whether she really chose to believe that or not was another story. He left her twelve years ago, and she felt like he didn’t look back. When he suddenly pops up in her Facebook notifications, it tilts her world on its axis.

Danny was forced to move away from the love of his life when his family left England. He is prompted to get back in touch with her after twelve years. He is amazed by the connection that he feels just from a few online chats that they exchange.

I loved Danny and Liv! I thought that they were a fantastic set of characters. Both of them seemed so real. Neither Danny nor Liv felt like they were the perfect people that a lot of romance novels cast in the story lines. They had flaws, vulnerability and I could really feel the love between them. I also absolutely loved Max and Jen. The best friends added a great mix to the book.

Kerry Heavens can certainly write some wonderful sexy scenes too! I love that Just Human was written in both POV’s as well. Seeing the passion from both perspectives really gives the entire book more depth.

I will warn you, I am not at all happy about the ending of Just Human. I kept tapping on my iPad screen to get more pages to appear. I NEED to know what happens next. I can’t wait for Still Human, and I can’t wait to find out more about Liv and Danny!

HOLY CRAP!!!! I fell in love with this book instantly and pretty much inhaled it. What can I say, I love love and this is what Danny & Liv's story is all about. Both characters are so real and very relatable. I think Danny has taken over the top spot of book boyfriends for me - he is so romantic and boy does he have some moves!! I didn't know there was a cliffhanger but THANK GOD the second book is out...not sure what I would've done if I had to wait!

3.0 out of 5 stars Long lost love refound? Maybe! Aug. 6 2013
By Courtney~MustReadBooksOrDie - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I reviewed this book at MustReadBooksOrDie with my friend Shelley.

Court: Long lost childhood love stories are among my favorite tropes, and Just Human gives us that in spades. Danny and Olivia were best friends from the age of 6, that turned into something more until he had to leave England for California to go to college. Neither wanted to ask the other to make sacrifices so they parted ways, without ever any sort of resolution. Our story begins 12 years later with a facebook message...dun. dun. dun. Shel: Yes, Courtney, it was a sweet back story and such a rarity these have a love from childhood that lasts until adulthood.

Court: Danny is by far my favorite character in this book, followed closely by Max. He is protective of his heart, but still really puts himself on the line over and over again. Shel: Agreed! Danny needed a little push but then he threw himself wholeheartedly into the relationship without many reservations. I appreciated that he took a risk and saw it through. He seemed completely smitten by Olivia. Court: It was Olivia I was a little bit put off by. She is not as put together inside as she projects to everyone outside, which causes her to be a little hardened at times....or her words don't always match her actions in my mind. Shel: Yes, Olivia was so worried about being hurt that she had a really hard time allowing herself to fully trust Danny which is funny since she seemed to measure every man that came after Danny to Danny...including Danny. I was happy to see her finally allow herself to believe that he could be trusted; it was nice to see her relax and enjoy their time together.

Court: There are a couple of parts that have Danny's POV throughout that take us back in time to the beginning of a scene, and I would have liked for those to be more together with Olivia's scene instead of separate blocks. I mention this because it might be a problem for people who have trouble with multiple points of view anyway. On the other hand, it was good + majorly helpful to have what was going on with him that Olivia didn't know....which makes the ending so much harder.

Court: Forewarning, there is not a resolution to the end and a second book is expected. I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger per se, because you can see what is coming from a mile away...but it doesn't make it suck any less! I definitely want to see more of their story...and I hope they get their happily-ever-after....pretty please Kerry! Shel: Yes, we need that 2nd book. I was so ticked off at the ending because I knew it was coming and I just hoped against hope that before someone made a rash decision, Olivia or Danny would take a deep breath and talk it out. Guess we'll have to wait for book 2 to see if they get that chance.

Courtney: 3 Stars
Shelley: 3 1/2 Stars

3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm Aug. 17 2013
By Mallory - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*

Hearing that this was Kerry Heavens debut novel shocked me. She writes like a well-established author. She is incredibly talented, and I can't wait to see what's in her future.

As a tattooed woman, I was so happy to see the main character Liv was tattooed. Anybody else sick of the men being badass and tattooed, and being turned on by the female's virgin skin? I know I am. Tattoos are just as hot on us girls as they are on guys. Can I get an amen?!

I think it's safe to say everybody loves a story about the one that got away. That is exactly what this story is. It's been twelve years since they've seen and spoken to each other. They reconnect on Facebook, where else? They quickly realize that time has had no effect on their chemistry; Danny flies over to England to see if he and Liv can rekindle things.

They barely have an actual face-to-face conversation before they are peeling each other's clothes off. Don't get me wrong, it was H-O-T, but part of me was hoping they would build the tension up a bit more. I was hoping for more fun flirting on Facebook, but apparently Liv and Danny are so hot for each other they don't need much social media foreplay.

The plot was a little lacking in my opinion. I thought it could use a little more excitement hence the three-star review. That being said, I can be a harsh reviewer, and I've seen plenty of fellow bloggers giving it a perfect five-star rating. I want you all to go out and get it and let me know how many stars you think it deserves!
