The United States has long been considered a deadly foe by the inhabitants of its ever-expanding spheres of influence." In Reflections on the Justice of Roosting Chickens, Churchill examines the toll U.S. policies have taken on civilians around the world and the role activists are (or aren't) playing to stop the carnage. The Western world was stunned to wake up on 9-11 to find that the Third World had "pushed back." By ignoring the suffering and loss of life of their victims while grieving over our own, Amercans have made themselves complicit in their government's global slaughter. In a heartwrenching recount, Churchill reminds us of the untold millions whohave perished as a result of U.S. military intervention (in either a physical, diplomatic or economic sense) in Iraq, Cambodia, Palestine, East Timor, the Americas . . . and the list goes on.
To further illustrate his point, included are annotated chronologies of U.S. military actions from 1776 to the present and a compilation of International Laws either broken or ignored by the United States. Comprehensive, yet remaining concise, this book cannot be overlooked by those still asking: "Why do they hate us?"
"Few are as eloquent or as able to maintain lucidity for the lay reader as is Churchill."- Bloomsbury Review
"Ward Churchill has carved out a special place for himself in defending the rights of oppressed people, and -exposing the dark side of past and current history, often marginalized or suppressed. These are achievements of inestimable value."-Noam Chomsky
Ward Churchill is co-director of the American Indian Movement of Colorado, a national spokesperson for the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee, and an associate professor of American Indian Studies and Communications at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Author of more than a dozen titles, he is also an indefatigable lecturer on government repression, American Indian affairs and global politics.

I don't hate it because I generally disagree with it. I hate it because it is intellectually dishonest. Churchill is clearly a communist who has a grudge because the USA had the nerve to resist the Soviet Union in the various proxy wars. In every case, the Soviet sponsored rebels are always "freedom fighters" while the Americans are the evil oppressors. Churchill routinely alleges all manner of evil that Israel has committed, not acknowledging that most UN assembly members and all of Israel's neighbors are rabidly anti-zionist a.k.a. anti-Jewish. Finally, Churchill makes a case that Al-Qaeda and its like minded movements are merely victims fighting US oppression. Churchill is obviously very intelligent, but also quite evil.

Distilled and powerful, this sobering collection of facts simply explains the origins of "anti-Americanism", and how to fix it. That may surprise some, as this book would most likely be ascribed to that very school of thought, in no small measure because of its uncomprimising honesty in reviewing the historical record of US aggression--both in the "homeland" and abroad, and the tall order it asks of all Americans in understanding that past and acting to remedy it.
The chapter on the US's wars--admittedly truncated to include only the "major" incursions--is a heart-rending compilation of tragedy, a continuous record of devastation our country has indulged in since it was born, cleaned of any excuses a "Good American" might attribute to aberration. It is followed by a chapter twice as long, yet covering but a fourth of the time--only since the end of WW2--that demonstrates the continuous lawlessness displayed by the US government in international affairs. In sum, these chapters provide ample reasons for why "people hate us", while calling US citizens to task for allowing this abhorrent behavior in our name to continue unabated for literally hundreds of years.
It is an uncomprimising book, and will no doubt instill feelings of shock, outrage and shame in anyone who reads it. And this is a *good* thing: Churchill has performed a great service to any US citizen willing to honestly look at themselves and their nation's history; at its core, this book is an attempt to cure the "dementia" of American nationalism, leading to a safer world for *all* of us.

Anyone interested or concerned about the world around them MUST read this book. It will surely anger some people but that will just show their inability to think about the world without hiding behind the mask of being an "American". Anyone who is interested in freedom must also read this book. It'll prove that America is, indeed, not the land of the free or the peaceful and friendly country that many try to pretend it is.

Ward Churchill has been persona non grata in America since he has made strong criticisms of this country. In this book, he has listed an astounding array of factual examples of America's past role in world events. It is nothing less than an eye-opener for the objective reader.
Obviously, the average American citizen will be offended at this criticism. But Churchill "tells it like it is" and it is too bad every American citizen is not exposed to these thoughts so that we might change our national behavior in the future.
Or else, as Churchill says, (and the Reverend Jeffrey Wright recently expounded) " the chickens will continue to come home to roost!"
