1978 album from the Reggae legend. Includes 'Is This Love', 'Satisfy My Soul' and many more.
Kaya was the Wailers' final studio LP before 1979's Survival, arguably the album on which Bob Marley and his band reached pure pop-rock bliss (with a reggae base, natch!) via melodic tunes like "Africa Unite" and "Ride, Natty, Ride". Released in 1978, Kaya saw Marley moving more in that direction, musically, with pop melodies developing and even lead guitar piling on top of the syncopated reggae backbeats. Kaya concentrates mostly on "lighter" subjects--namely matters of the heart or just feeling good (read: screw art, let's dance)--as titles like the joyful "Easy Skanking", the beautiful "Is This Love", "Satisfy My Soul", and "Misty Morning" surely illustrate. --Bill Holdship --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The sound (depending on the format you choose) is either very brightly etched or slow and muddy. It could have been so much better. Even the packaging is sparse to the point of being an after thought.
I tried playing this on several different systems and the results were always the same, pure disappointment.
I also tried the Blu-ray Audio version of Supertramp's Crime of the Century and got similar results.
If your looking for stunning sound skip this, if you want stunning music buy any other version. of Kaya.
You feel down? Put in Kaya. You feel happy? Put in Kaya. It can solve all of your problems and answer all your questions.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Food for the soul! :)
This is a truely beautiful album.
... It is in fact a political statement - listen to the album again in it's entirety - it is one big political statement not love songs (chuckle). Yes Bob is in love with KAYA that "lil brown gal". p.s. KAYA=Ganja=woman.
The album is not as blatently political as the previous albums. You have to remember this album was written after Marley was shot and his political statements are more translucent.
This album is best if listened to from beginning to end the way it was written and meant to be heard. KAYA was made in the era when conceptual albums were "in", unlike the 1 hit wonder albums of today that has one popular song and 9 other disjointed nonrelavent songs. Thank your monoplolized big name record industry for that and for dictating our airwaves with songs of plastic love and false hope.
This album is timeless and I'm sure my children will listen to and appreciate this album when their time comes.
Warning: if you have conservative ideologies - you will not understand this album and think the devil himself wrote this album. ...
Ahhhh Time Will Tell...what a beautiful song. Guitars are just perfect with the mellow rasta drums. You just can't help but relax when you hear this. Smile Jamaica is ok. I don't particularly like the song, but the dub treatment here is really nice.
Bottom Line: I recommend you pick this up. Just sounds too good to pass up.
Listening to the keyboards reverb between left and right channel on such timeless songs as "Is This Love" or "Sun is Shining" while a chorus of percussion softly pulsates back and forth makes this one of the very finest collections from Bob Marley and the Wailers. Junior Murvin's subtle guitar licks highlight turnarounds in each song. The vocal mixes are among the best ever from Bob abd the I Threes.
The remaster of this CD is exactly what one would expect with the instruments clearer, the bass more powerful, the mix given a lively feel that brings you closer to the source than ever before. An already great collection that has been given a lift, it's worth noting these mellow riffs.

This is a great album, but the new format is outstanding. This has a nice warm sound that alot of older music transfered to cds is sorely lacking.Published on May 14 2014 by Craig Thompson

If you are reading this then I am telling you, GET THIS!! Kaya is a laid back album consisting of love, sunshine and of course, marijuana. This is one of the best of Bob's cd's. Read morePublished on June 14 2004 by Justin Allen
This is one of Bob's greatest works. Although it is different than other works such as Burnin, Catch a Fire, and Rastaman Vibration, it is still great. Read morePublished on Feb. 18 2004
