I was reluctant to purchase this one after reading some reviews. Since I could not find something else to my liking I ordered it anyway.

The assembly is simple, pieces fit tightly together so you need to exercise a little bit your gentle touch to make sure you don't break anything but in the end everything is solid. Our hamster love it and quickly got use to it.

As for the "ways the animal can get out", I have to say that it is nearly impossible. Everything fit perfectly and locks in fine. For those reviews stating that their little animal escaped too easily, guess what... they didn't lock the pieces together properly. All exits or "holes" that have a plug are closed tightly after you put the plug and twist until you here a click sound, meaning that the plug is locked in place.

Best cage we had so far!

I read all the reviews before ordering this and was sceptical. I received it last night and was excited. I'm a journeyman trades person so I thought set up would be easy. Well it was difficult to build. It's very wonky in the sense that things don't sit where they should sit. It is a big cage which is nice but the build quality isn't even close to the small crittertrail cages. The port connect is hard to get in but very easy to fall out. I've attached our other cage and am nervous about it. It's a weird height so you have to make some wierd bends with your tunnels to reach another smaller crittertrail cage. The top door/ hatch doesn't fit properly, so I had to bend it a little to make it so it's mostly closed. Being an adult with this cage I can probably manage but if my 3 yearold touches it at all something will probably become un aligned and be an escape route. I checked multiple spots , multiple times to make sure things were sitting right. As per scratches, yeah it would get scratched but I don't care about that. In all of this is for a smaller person to maintain I'd say look elsewhere. If your an adult and meticulous you could probably make it work. Honestly I'm deciding if I'm going to send it back but it was such a pain to build.

Nice big size. I even got a 12 inch wheel in the hamster cage, although I have to use less bedding around the wheel. But the cage has many scratches and a piece is broken. The door can close even if the door doesn't fit into the area designed for it. And the square piece with the bubble for the tunnel doesn't fit into the right place. It kind of just hangs in there somehow but I will have to secure it somehow so that my hamster won't escape.

Nice looking cage, lots of room, but very flimsy which makes it hard to assemble, and hard to dissambleto clean. The hamster no noise wheel attached on the side keeps rubbing on the bottom plastic part, and since they are nocturnal, it keeps us awake. Also the top opening doesn't close easy, it's like not we'll aligned no matter what we do, and I wish we would also have a side access, easier to get the little hamster out if he is hiding under the shelf.

honestly, a good size habitat. obviously the bigger the better. the height says 16.5" but is only 13" so the expensive wheel we bought for our large syrian doesnt fit on wall or stand because of the curved corners/not being 16.5". happy shopping, please remember that syrian hamsters NEED large wheels and the small ones that come in the super tiny cages are just not enough. I would have ordered 2 cages to connect if the height wasnt so wrong. Also, we had to use pliers and bend some of the metal so it would go together properly. overall, not the best, but it works. I would say only for dwarf hamsters because of the wheel sizes that fit.

I feel like I got a bit of a lemon...the petting zone locks don’t line up, one of the hooks to connect the two halves of the wire frame is missing (only 3 instead of 4), the wire holder for the water bottle is missing, and it was just terribly difficult to assemble. Each piece had to be “muscled” into place as nothing aligned as it should have. It looks lovely, and will hold the hamster, but it took way more time and patience than it really should have to assemble and I’ve ended up buying a separate water container as I have no way of attaching the one included.

I like the size of the cage. But it was hard to put together and the cage feels very cheaply made. Broke a clip trying to put it together. The clip to put on for the tubes was very difficult to put on and doesn't feel very secure. Ended up taking out the shelf because the ladder was little slippery for our hamster to climb up. I would not buy this again

Firstly the local animal shelter would not allow me a hamster because they said this cage was too small. After I managed to get a smaller hamster with the agreement of extending the cage to make it bigger, the first night of the hamster being in it it managed to chew out of the top plastic blue part and was able to get out! Luckily I was around to stop it venturing!
The second night the hamster spent in the cage the poor little thing was in the wheel and its hair became trapped :( the poor thing had a chunk of hair pulled out which broke my heart. I would not recommend this cage to anyone, it is not fair to put a hamster in here.

I was unsure when buying this cage because there are quite a few bad reviews.. but I always thought I could send it back. when it came which was very fast delivery! I do have to admit it was a pain to put together... but I have 3 dwarf hamsters and am sooooooo glad I spent my money on this. I know it is a bit pricey but such a good product. not only that but you can buy extensions and join 2 cages together so this is what I plan to do. they go on the wheel al the time and have had no problems they love it! there is a little hut in the roof of the cage that I fill with softer bedding and they sleep and love it. they love going up and down the tubes and seem very happy with the cage. only 1 thing I have to say.. my hamsters couldn't get he water from the bottle as the ball in the end of it is hard to move but luckily I had a different one so I attached that one. I don't know if mine was just a one off though. over all I love this cage and am very satisfying. if you are in the same situation I was about looking at the bad reviews and unsure I would rest assure it is a great cage! I would defiantly buy it agin!! if you do get it there are videos on youtube that helped me put it together that was very helpful.. but once you get past the first section thing of putting it together it is pretty straight forward. I am so pleased with this cage!! xx

We ordered one of these cages from Amazon after reading a review and seeing vids on youtube, so glad we did, the first one that arrived had a broken clip on the top which was obviously not due to delivery but Amazon made it a breeze to return and get a new one sent out to us in a day of reporting it, Well done Amazon!
Well onto the review.... what a fabulous cage, needs some skill to put together but once you have done it once it is a breeze to do, some folks have said it is hard to clean this cage but me and my wife have found it no harder than the simple plastic cage that we got with our mouse....
Just shoo your critters into the bedroom?petting area, lift it out and cap the opening with the provided stopper, put them to one side where they can watch you clean their house, clip the pipes of each side of the cage and unclip the two bottom clips the whole top of the cage lifts off in one piece allowing you to empty out the base and clean it down, the shelves just slot over the cage bars and remove simply to wash them down, we use a bucket with mild disinfectant in and separate all the pieces to wash, rinse and dry them, takes about 20 mins in total and the plastic is microantibacterial coated to provide better protection. they clip back together easily and if you expand the system with the critter trail expansion kits your mouse/hamster will love you forever lol.

Also to note is that Amazon send out the latest version of this cage which has spring loaded catches on the doors and external water bottle and is much improved on the earlier version. :-)

Its a great cage because my hamster found it easy to use (my hamster is a Russian dwarf hamster) The first time it used the long tube it could not get down but now it finds it easy to use. Its easy too clean out,i have a tip when you (if you do) clean out the tubes if you can't open them up you can use a hair dryer to dry them. Its also great cause the bed opens right up and life straight out. I fully recommend buying this cage and its worth every penny!

Like all of the critter trail items I have it isn't really well designed, the most natural place for the hamster to sleep is the petting area which isn't well ventilated and isn't deep enough for him to make a good den. The cage doesn't have enough room anywhere else to add another bed, only thing to do is buy extensions but this then becomes a VERY expensive hamster house.

It does look great and we have had fun adding extra tubes, bed areas etc but then it becomes a nightmare to take apart and clean.
