HASH(0xa7141210) out of 5 stars After finishing a volume, I can't wait to put my hands on the next one! Aug. 16 2015

Love this manga.
Always been a fan of Samuraï way of dealing with life: honor, rigor, death, value of given words, respect, poetry and training. Of course, there is corruption, betrayal, cowardise, villains…

The only thing frustrated is the pace at which it is released! :-)

In this volume, Sei has been injured and it forces Soji to understand the importance of her in his life. Of course, Soji being Soji… (The guy is dense!) He decides that Sei must not return to the Shinsengumi because she can lose her life trying to save him once again…

It's funny to see the guy reactions: him flushing, over thinking… And Sei temper! Lol! She is a spitfire!
The designs are cool and I like that you have history, tragic betrayal moment mixed with comical reactions. It's a real good manga to enjoy!

As always, after finishing a volume, I can't wait to put my hands on the next one!

HASH(0xa6f02b7c) out of 5 stars Pretty good March 1 2016

~3/5

I tend to stay away from historical books, just because I’m not a fan in general. I’ve tried reading some, but I have a hard time getting into them. This book surprised me.

Thankfully, the synopsis at the beginning of the book filled me in enough to get into this book, what with not having read any of the previous volumes. Clearly there were a couple important incidents that I’d missed, but this volume was relatively easy to follow.

And while it is historical, with clearly labeled dates and political dynamics, it’s also a comedy. There are serious moments, with fighting and remorse, and Okita starts getting depressed in the first half, but there’s also a lot of joking around, moments where the characters are laughing and teasing each other. I liked the budding romance between Okita and Sei, and the modesty they have with each other, which makes sense for the time period.

It also seemed like the author really knows the time period this is set in, which is good.

I was surprised by how enjoyable this volume was, and I liked the main characters. And even how some of the side characters seemed to be changing.

A review copy was provided by the publisher, VIZ Media, and Erik Jansen from MediaLab PR. Thank you so, so much!

HASH(0xa6ee0f3c) out of 5 stars Finally, some progress in love! Sept. 2 2015
By Jett, romance and shojo fan - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This series just keeps getting better! I'm learning a lot about this period in Japan's history plus the relationship between Soji and Sei is actually experiencing some real progress in this volume (too often shojo characters get in a rut--clueless love interest and heart-hurt protagonist, will-they-won't-they couple, both protag and love interest are clueless that they both love each other--and that makes a shojo start to feel monotonous).
