Review

One of my absolute favorite stories, The Keeping, sinks its teeth into you early on and does not let go. With secrets to be kept, lies to be uncovered, and a romance that seamlessly shifts between love, lust and hate, Nicky Charles has magnificently woven together a story that is funny, fascinating, gripping and incredibly sexy. A must read! - SC Stephens - NY Times best selling author

Product Description

Ryne Taylor was a sexy bad-ass Alpha set on establishing a new pack. Melody Greene was a journalism student researching his work as a photographer—or so she said. But could Mel really be trusted or had she stumbled upon his secret? And if she knew, could Ryne save himself and the pack he’d left behind without enacting a deadly ancient law known as The Keeping? Sequel to The Mating.

HASH(0xa6011d5c) out of 5 stars Blink Twice for Yes, Three Times for No March 18 2013

Want to know what that means? Then read the book - and you should!

So I read Ms. Charles' "The Mating" and I fell completely in love with her (OK, I mean her writing, I really don't know her personally - though I'm sure she's a lovely woman) and I got hooked. I love werewolf and wolf shifter stories and I have read A LOT of them. So I'm quite discerning, and I normally would never pick up a book with "mating" in its title (or "bred" for that matter). But I read the synopsis, grabbed it, and read it in one day. Bam! I have a new were author high on my charts. But wait - there's more! In fact, there are 4 more books in the series.

This book is the sequel. Another 24 hour read. I was quite shocked, because I found it even better than the first. Mel and Ryne are a laugh riot. They have some serious humor going on, even with all the melodrama surrounding them. And I also really liked Anthony Greyson. OK, that's sort of a spoiler but you can figure it out. Bryan and Daniel are back, as are Kane, Elise and Helen (and there is some heavy drama there). I. Loved. This. Book.

Since now own The Finding (Book #3) I will start it tonight, right after "Dallas" (now there's melodrama for you). And I will probably be all bleary eyed at work tomorrow, spending a lot of time in the men's room with the Kindle on my phone!

HASH(0xa5dd2dbc) out of 5 stars A delightful story I enjoyed. March 22 2013

I loved the book so much that I read it three more times since. A sweet romance of a young man willing to search for the young woman who tried in vain to cover herself and who she really is. From the start it was heart warming as the two discovered and revealed each other's secrets. Coming to grips with a villain who wants to destroy their way of life.
Nickey Charles has a way of drawing you in making the plot believable and entertaining to the very end.
I simply could not put it down and once I discovered it was part of a series of four books I had to read them as well. I was not dissapointed at all.
A book I can recommend to all lovers of paranormal romance mixed with suspense and budding relationships.
A wonderful read

HASH(0xa5cc84f8) out of 5 stars The Keeping: a keeper! March 16 2013
By Sandra L. von Pier - Published on Amazon.com

I found this author by accident and have now downloaded every book she has available online. What a very talented person she is! I am transported into the story. Time passes quickly while I'm "away". Don't miss any in the series: Bonded,The Mating, The Keeping, The Finding, Betrayed. There is also Forever in Time, not part of the other series. They can be purchased for free on feedbooks or smashwords. Don't miss this talented author!

HASH(0xa5f49678) out of 5 stars Decent series April 16 2013
By Laura - Published on Amazon.com

I've now read all of the books in this series. What I first want to say applies to all of the books in the series (so am putting it in all of my reviews). I had to go to the author's website to try and figure out the best order to read them in. In the end, I went with chronological order: Bonded, The Mating, The Keeping, Betrayed, then The Finding. Overall, I think the stories were interesting. Clearly, if I didn't like them I wouldn't have continued to read the entire series. I was prompted to read them in the first place because of the good reviews and the price (can't beat FREE)! However, I can only give them 3 stars because they were so overly redundant I found myself skipping over a great deal and wanting to get straight to the point. I think they could have each been shortened by 30+ pages without losing anything of value. Many things were unnecessarily repeated and actually took away from the plot development. The author did a good job developing her characters and the storyline, so there was no need to repeat things over and over again. I'm thinking specifically of how she may have told a story about something that happened in a character's past multiple times throughout the text. If you told it once, you can just reference it or put a one liner in that will prompt the reader to remember. I felt she didn't give the readers enough credit to put things together or their own or connect the dots. Everything was explained in great detail too many times and some of the stories felt dragged out. Still, I was drawn into the stories and connected with the characters (hence the 3 stars). As other reviewers have said, these books are available free elsewhere if Amazon is charging for them!

The Keeping was probably my least favorite. The actual keeping law was believable enough, but it was hard to imagine these packs going straight to such a drastic outcome. Having read the other books prior to this, I would have expected them to first get the werewolf Damage Control unit involved and gone about it in a different way. Because it seemed like they were overreacting about enacting the keeping law, it was hard to believe while reading the book that they might actually follow through with it. Because of that the emotional connection to the book was really lacking for me. Then there was the Mel and Ryne relationship, which was interesting enough but the twist with Mel was too far fetched, even for a paranormal text. Without wanting to give too much away, I'll just say that what happened with Mel and how she ends up is contradictory to something else that was said in the text and could have been much better developed. As a reader I was just unable to get lost in this particular story.

This is the second book in this series that I've read. They are pretty good. I like the story it's just sometimes I skip through paragraphs. A little more information than needed.
