HASH(0xa548d540) out of 5 stars I love this so much. April 2 2013
By nankeen1 - Published on
Format: Paperback
Remember before you had kids and you dreamed about all the adventurous, enriching activities you would do with your future children? Then you had them and you still had good intentions, but life (and exhaustion) got in the way? While there's still time, before they've all grown up and gone away, get this book. It lists all those awesome adventures in checklist form. I don't know what it is about a check box, but it really gets me moving. My kids like them even more than I do. This is so much better than all those "things to do on a rainy day" books. These are things you really WANT to do, and you don't have to spend $20 at Hobby Lobby for each activity. Most of them are absolutely free. Kids grow up SO fast. Do it now!

HASH(0xa548d594) out of 5 stars Better for younger kids. Aug. 17 2015

Format: Paperback
The goal of this book is noble, but--as a few other reviews have noted--keep in mind that this book is geared toward very young children. The description offered in one of the reviews listed states for children in "Grades 3-8," which means the estimated target audience starts at 8 years old and goes through age 13. My son just turned 10 and we ordered this book for his birthday. He is a true nature boy and loves all animals. When we got the book, we were very disappointed. It included activities like "make a snow angel" or "let a snowflake land on your tongue." A summer activity was "jump in a lake." The games included were as basic as "Duck, Duck, Goose"! The activities might strike wonder in a 3-4 year old, but most 9-13 year olds would feel alienated by the simplicity of the activities listed. We really wanted to love the book, but had to return it for something more age appropriate for our son. So, this is a well-intended effort and probably very effective for the preschool set, but not for advanced elementary or middle school kids.

HASH(0xa548d9cc) out of 5 stars User friendly for grandparents! May 7 2013

Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Sometimes it's difficult to connect with your grandchildren who are all different ages and are used to sitting in front of a video screen or having some kind of earphone in! This book is truly the answer. Divided by season, there are 448 ideas that will allow children of all ages to be entertained and/or challenged while getting some fresh air and exercise. Set up with little check boxes, the kids can even keep track of how many of the activities they accomplish. In addition to the 448 ideas, there are also recipes, projects, and games sprinkled throughout the book. No special equipment or skills required for most of these activities. Just grab the grandchildren, go outside, and start doing things together to build great memories!

Most of these are no brainers-build a snowman, make a mud pie, ect. Might be good if you are totally outdoor impaired but if you've seen a tree and pitched a tent you aren't going to find a lot of inspiration here.

HASH(0xa548dd74) out of 5 stars An Outdoor Bible for Grandmothers May 8 2013

This is a fantastic book for bringing generations together, sharing good times, and a fantastic way to enjoy nature. I love this book!!! I live about a thousand miles from my grandchildren. I only see them about twice a year, which makes my time with them very precious. I gave them this book as a gift and we have had a wonderful time in phone conversations checking off all the activities we have already accomplished on previous summer vacations, and are also working on plans for all the new things we are going to try this summer.
