Defective audio when compared to DVD release
August 3, 2018
I am confused regarding the high ratings for this Blu-ray movie considering the character audio has actually been butchered compared to the DVD release. Why they decided to mess with the previous DVD audio track and "re-do" it for the Blu-ray version is beyond me. The entire movie I was like, "what's wrong with Kiki's voice?" Is it my speakers sounding gargly? Is it the Blu-ray disc? Is it the player? Then sure enough, I Googled it, and there is, in fact, a problem with the sound in the Blu-ray version. It's hard to describe it, other than voices sounding like they are vibrating in many scenes. It was driving me nuts. Sounds like someone is pounding your chest at 10 times per second while you are talking. That's the best way to describe it. The fact that the company let this go to production and actually take it to market like that is just inexcusable. For that reason, I returned many other Blu-ray Japanese movies I had purchased. Beautiful movie, but messing with the audio is just plain silly. Did they think no one would notice? Yes, it's subtle, but noticeable, especially if you've seen the DVD release already.
