KILL BILL VOLUME 1: After a six-year hiatus, Quentin Tarantino returns to the director's chair with KILL BILL. The movie proves once again that he is a hyperactive visionary and the master of cinematic coolness. Split into two volumes by Miramax in order to ensure that Tarantino's vision would not be compromised (and presumably to sell more tickets), KILL BILL: VOL. 1 tells the first half of the sprawling story, which is quite simple at first glance. A female assassin, referred to as "The Bride" (Uma Thurman), is attacked on her wedding day. Dead are her soon-to-be husband and unborn child. However, she doesn't die. Four years later, she wakes up from a coma looking for revenge. Although her ultimate target is her former boss, Bill (David Carradine), it's quite clear that The Bride is saving the best for last. And before she can track him down, she must methodically take out the minions who ruined her life. VOLUME 1's targets include Vernita Green/Copperhead (Vivica A. Fox), Sofie Fatale (Julie Dreyfus), and the heartless O-Ren Ishii/Cottonmouth (Lucy Liu). Using a blessed sword handmade by Hattori Hanzo (Sonny Chiba), The Bride begins her relentless assault. KILL BILL VOLUME 2: The second and final volume in Quentin Tarantino's KILL BILL series is another stylish, sprawling masterwork. VOLUME 2 picks up where the first film left off, as The Bride (Uma Thurman) resumes her quest to track down her former mentor, Bill (David Carradine), and exact revenge. But before she gets to Bill, she must first take out the remaining minions who helped to slaughter her best friends and fiancé. First up is Budd (Michael Madsen), a quiet but dangerous country boy who lives in a trailer. Next is Elle Driver (Darryl Hannah), a one-eyed vixen who doesn't appear to have a heart--or a conscience.

If your only concern is watching the movies in HD with HD sound you won't go wrong with buying this disc. For me, however, I think that one of the attractions of blu ray is the extras. For instance, Kill Bill Vol 1 has an extra performance by the 5,6,7,8's that I have watched several times and played for friends. Also, there are times when I turn on English subtitles to clarify something that is being said. The originals also have subtitles in Chinese and several other languages. My wife is Chinese and likes to watch with the Chinese subtitles on. In fact we buy some blu rays because they have Chinese subtitles.
We don't yet own Kill Bill Vol 2. I bought this disc for that reason and out of curiousity to see if it's the same. For us it's a waste of money because we will quite likely buy the original Kill Bill Vol 2 at some point in the future.
You therefore get the ultimate pack with this purchase. No extra features about the movie however!
Not only this movie but three others I recently bought and produced by eOne/Sony. The first thing was the picture as it did really not come across as Blu-Ray but rather 720p at best. The other is the sound. I stood at my surround speakers and heard almost nothing through the whole movie. Overall it is watchable but not impressive.
NOTE: By chance I did a firmware update on my Blu-ray player and the movie experience has improved. Better sound and picture
