Okay, I'll admit it right from the start...I am madly in love with my new Kindle Fire HDX 8.9" tablet.

The display resolution on the Kindle Fire HDX is absolutely fantastic. This tablet was amazingly easy to set up, connect to the wireless Wi-Fi modem, and start to use right away. In fact, the HDX performs much better than the latest iPad Air from Apple...and at a considerably lower price tag too. This tablet provides terrific value for the money.

But I must say that I have been very disappointed to find that so much of the Amazon software content (apps, music and video) that are available for the Fire HDX and other Kindle products in the USA are not available to Amazon customers located in Canada.

As an Amazon PRIME customer, I was very unhappy to discover that just because I live in Canada I am not entitled to have direct access to the PRIME Video Library, the special book offers, the lending library/book club privileges and the Kindle Fire User's Forum that are offered to Amazon's customers in the USA. Why are all these extra services stopped at the Canada/US border and not made available to Canadian customers on the same basis as in the US market?

It just doesn't seem fair to me that Canadian customers cannot have access to the same range of Kindle content, apps, accessories, services and promotional offers that are enjoyed by Kindle buyers in the USA (and now available in the UK as well). This is particularly discriminatory to Canadian customers in view of the somewhat higher price that HDX buyers pay in Canada compared to the US prices.

In my opinion, this inequality needs to be addressed and fixed immediately if Amazon hopes to sell more of their Kindle readers and Kindle Fire tablets in the Canadian marketplace.

Why buy a tablet that is severely limited in Canada. I love Amazon and how it retails...but when over half the apps that Amazon has do not work in Canada I can`t support a product like this. Give me Amazon Prime in Canada that has the ability to use Amazon`s streaming capabilities such as Instant Video then I can support this product. Then it becomes 5 star from a 1 star.

Hey Amazon wake up and make the Canadian market on par with the US!!!!

Bought this used on eBay, great hardware but as others have commented on previously, it is mostly useless for Canadian customers as half of Amazon's services aren't available on it. Too bad as the tablet itself is a winner, and would most likely trump the iPad on every front if only there was a way to use Google services without rooting (and Amazon isn't making this easy, as expected). I do wish Amazon would hear its customers' complaints and react to them but I have lost faith that we will ever see services parity between the Us and Canada. Looks like I'll trade this in for the newest Kobo tablet which is getting great reviews.

I got a new kindle fire HDXL 8.9". Even though the gadget is fantastic and pretty well done, it doesn't work with all the features that amazon.com has in its video. Amazon.ca is completely different and I don't like. it is like to have a beatiful car and can't drive it.

PLEASE AMAZON. CANADIAN CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE PART OF THE AMERICAN CUSTOMERS, OTHERWISE Is worth nothing whatsoever

I was fully prepared to purchase this unit but changed my mind when the reduced services, features and content provided to Canada was pointed out. Firstly, how can Amazon deny these and still represent themselves as a value vendor in Canada? Secondly, how do they justify charging more for so much less? Guess I'll buy the HP or Windows tablet.

I currently own an iPad 4th generation and am looking into upgrading. My choices were this (Kindle Fire HDX 8.9") or iPad Air. I am going with the iPad Air ONLY because of all the comments that this tablet is pretty much useless to Canadians. If this ever changes then i will consider buying one.

I love many things about the Kindle Fire HDX -its low weight, the wonderful display, the ease of use.... As many other reviewers, I am disappointed that Canadian users are so limited compared with US ones, but I knew this before buying it, and so I cannot complain about that. (When I first arrived in Canada after living several years in the US, I was appalled by how it seemed that I had stepped back in time, not just about Amazon, but concerning pretty much all things relating to the Internet)....

My problems with the HDX are few, but one of them is major and the other ones quite annoying. I had two essential needs with this tablet: accessing my Dropbox, and accessing my work VPN. I had read that I could not do the former, but that the latter had been taken care of with this version.

As I had seen on the Dropbox website that they had a Kindle Fire version (you just had to tell it to accept non-Amazon content), I decided to risk it. Installing Dropbox was the first thing I did, in case I had to reset the Kindle to factory settings, and it was no problem. It has worked perfectly fine for over a month with daily use, online and offline.

But the VPN never worked -I tried to set it up more than 10 times, I called the Kindle customer service, and they told me to ask my university IT services, as "it should work -if it does not, it is a setting from there". I called that IT support, but they had nothing to add. There are very few things you can fiddle with, and I had entered all the information correctly, and the VPN I am trying to connect to is PPTP. I simply cannot connect to it. There is no error message. It starts connecting, and then it immediately says "disconnected".... This is really driving me crazy.
