The display resolution on the Kindle Fire HDX is absolutely fantastic. This tablet was amazingly easy to set up, connect to the wireless Wi-Fi modem, and start to use right away. In fact, the HDX performs much better than the latest iPad Air from Apple...and at a considerably lower price tag too. This tablet provides terrific value for the money.
But I must say that I have been very disappointed to find that so much of the Amazon software content (apps, music and video) that are available for the Fire HDX and other Kindle products in the USA are not available to Amazon customers located in Canada.
As an Amazon PRIME customer, I was very unhappy to discover that just because I live in Canada I am not entitled to have direct access to the PRIME Video Library, the special book offers, the lending library/book club privileges and the Kindle Fire User's Forum that are offered to Amazon's customers in the USA. Why are all these extra services stopped at the Canada/US border and not made available to Canadian customers on the same basis as in the US market?
It just doesn't seem fair to me that Canadian customers cannot have access to the same range of Kindle content, apps, accessories, services and promotional offers that are enjoyed by Kindle buyers in the USA (and now available in the UK as well). This is particularly discriminatory to Canadian customers in view of the somewhat higher price that HDX buyers pay in Canada compared to the US prices.
In my opinion, this inequality needs to be addressed and fixed immediately if Amazon hopes to sell more of their Kindle readers and Kindle Fire tablets in the Canadian marketplace.Read more ›
Hey Amazon wake up and make the Canadian market on par with the US!!!!
PLEASE AMAZON. CANADIAN CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE PART OF THE AMERICAN CUSTOMERS, OTHERWISE Is worth nothing whatsoever
My problems with the HDX are few, but one of them is major and the other ones quite annoying. I had two essential needs with this tablet: accessing my Dropbox, and accessing my work VPN. I had read that I could not do the former, but that the latter had been taken care of with this version.
As I had seen on the Dropbox website that they had a Kindle Fire version (you just had to tell it to accept non-Amazon content), I decided to risk it. Installing Dropbox was the first thing I did, in case I had to reset the Kindle to factory settings, and it was no problem. It has worked perfectly fine for over a month with daily use, online and offline.
But the VPN never worked -I tried to set it up more than 10 times, I called the Kindle customer service, and they told me to ask my university IT services, as "it should work -if it does not, it is a setting from there". I called that IT support, but they had nothing to add. There are very few things you can fiddle with, and I had entered all the information correctly, and the VPN I am trying to connect to is PPTP. I simply cannot connect to it. There is no error message. It starts connecting, and then it immediately says "disconnected".... This is really driving me crazy.Read more ›

Used very little for over one year (just enough to pass the warranty period), then it wouldn't turn on; wouldn't take a charge; wouldn't reset.

I bought this Kindle Fire because my last one Kindle Fire HD 8.9 failed after 18 months. This was the replacement one as I had extended warranty on my credit card. Read morePublished 9 months ago by Kindle Customer
Although it's a pricey compared to the kindle white, the color display is definitely worth it!. The appstore is also a huge feature that should not be overlooked.Published 9 months ago by Michael
I have owned a 64 GiB Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 inch for the last two years until it failed recently. I initially would have given this tablet a 5/5 until its failure. Read morePublished 11 months ago by Donald
This is a good kindle. It's actions are quite. It has no lines between the keys. I find it a little heavy if using for any length of time. I do like the larger screenPublished 13 months ago by Kindle Customer. Ish
