This KIndle Fire may be epic in USA but it is NOT in Canada. The reading screen- fine- rather good. However basic things- like moving music from iTunes to it- nightmarish. Not happy either with availability of stuff- I think this would be a great device in USA- in Canada not so sure- so for now- I would advise- HOLD OFF! Wait and see! It's weight is nice. Its somewhat cumbersome in its various control keys- they dont feel organic...While its price point is great- I have owned (in our family) 7 kindles- clearly we're fans- but this one- not so much- not sure the price point is worth it.Bring me a Kindle Fire with world wide 3G and access to ALL USA services...NOW we're having a conversation :(

Don't go for this if you reside in Canada. You can get neither movies, music nor the advertised more than a million free books. Amazon.ca just doesn't measure up to the hype. Perk-less north of the 49th!

I like the hardware and potential of the Kindle Fire. Unfortunately in Canada it is not that useful. Limited software apps available in "Canada," compared to other tablets. Can't download some of the Android apps (from Amazon.ca) available on Amazon.com. For instance wanted to download Oprah subscription - n/a on Amazon.ca. Can't watch Charlie Rose from my Kindle Fire because it is not compatible with their media program. Would have returned it but waited too long (hoping I'd find apps that would be useful). May as well have stuck with my Kindle reader (love it) which is pretty much all the Kindle Fire is good for - but a lot more money. Perhaps in the future it will be compatible with other applications and we'll get more options in Canada.

I received my Kindle Fire HD 8.9 about a month ago. I have never used a tablet computer before, so there was definitely a learning curve. There is no print user guide in the box, so the new user is dependent on the digital guide that is included. However, this guide is not that helpful and the user is left to guess what to do in many instances. As I was not used to a touch screen, I was often wondering whether to tap, sweep or whatever. It did not help that the first Kindle I received did not hold a battery charge and had to be returned. Not a great introduction! However, the Amazon Kindle specialist I spoke with was extremely pleasant and helpful, and sent me a replacement after the second phone call about this problem. I must add that my husband is a retired computer specialist and was able to help me a great deal. If I did not have this support available to me, I would have been telephoning Amazon a lot more!

Some things work better than others. Purchasing and downloading books is quick and easy. While I have been able to access digital versions of two magazines, many others are either not available or have not worked when I downloaded their apps. There also seems to be a disconnect between what magazines are available for the Kindle in Canada and those which are available in the US. I am disappointed that many of the magazines I subscribe to in print are only available for tablets manufactured by Amazon's competition. I might have purchased another tablet if I knew this was an issue!

On the subject of books, while there are an infinite number of titles available, I was surprised to find that I can buy many of them cheaper at my local big box warehouse store!

I have been tempted so many times to buy a Kindle, and each time I am deterred by the limitations on the Canadian version. The 8.9 Kindle Fire HD would be such a great tablet IF it came with the same offers the U.S. model offers, and by that I mean 4g option and movies. I also dislike that the version of Android is a limited one. Come on, Amazon. I buy all my books from you....can't you be more generous to us Canadians?

Part of the selling feature of the Kindle Fire is how well music sounds and how great movies play but if your buying this in Canada you don't have access to moview or music as Amazon.ca does not sell music or movies in Canada for you to play on the Kindle. So why buy a product you can only partially use?
I have contacted Amazon.ca many times asking them if they intend to sell music and movies in Canada but so far my inquiries have been ignored.

I dont know if I just got a defective one or if the product is over all flawed. It has a problem that when you are surfing for books to download on amazon.com, 90 percent of the time it will not let you select the book you want to order this is the same for other products on the site. It will either freeze or it will do a white bar effect or it will show you partial words from the top of your screen but it will not open the link needed to view or purchase your product. I have the fastest net avail an have no problems doing this actions on a nexus or samsung tablet however with this one you are continually having to shut it off and then turn it on re scroll down from the first page to the item you were interested in only to have it do the same problems and repeat this process over and over till it finally will accept the link an let you in. I am not too pleased with this problem also I did get the cover and I am not sure if it is a cover issue or again an issue with the device but when you turn it off and verify it is off when you come back to it several hours or days later it will be on again and the battery drained down to near nothing from it being on for so long. Sadly its been like this from day one I hope others have better luck with theirs as its allot of money to spend to put up with glitches.
