HASH(0xa1f24c90) out of 5 stars Deserves more attention. Gorgeous art, hot men, and a spunky heroine. Nov. 28 2014
By Leaf - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
WOW! I was blown away. Anise just can't remove this annoying choker that is the cause of the school administrator chasing her every morning because it violates the dress code. We are quickly shown 4 hot guys at her school, that later become her Rose Knights. When a bat-like creature swoops down from the sky and hits her, her choker falls off and is nowhere to be found. With her father suddenly coming home, what is going to happen to her since she lost it? What "terrible punishment" will befall her?

Tenjo, the class president and White Rose Knight, is who Anise idolizes and likes, and Kaede, the Red Rose Knight seems to like her, but teases her and we can't be entirely sure of his feelings. Comedy was thrown in perfectly, and enough mystery shrouded Anise's father and her situation to keep me interested. My favorite of the Knights so far, is Kurama, the Black Rose Knight:D

2 full glossy color pages are what you will open this manga to, and they are beautiful. The art is simply gorgeous! Reminded me of CLAMP's Tsubasa, except not elongated like they usually are known for. This is nothing new for shoujo, but I thoroughly enjoyed it:) Something that did surprise me, was that in order for Anise to use her Knights, they get their power from her blood. There's no vampire stuff going on, we don't see how her blood is taken by them, but it did shock me when everything so far was light and fluffy.

Do I recommend this? YES. If you enjoyed any of these titles-regardless of their similarity to the story- you most likely will love Kiss of the Rose Princess:

Kamisama Kiss, Vampire Knight (the first few volumes only because this series went downhill) Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura, Tsubasa R. C, Pandora Hearts, Alice in the Country of (any of these volumes) and maybe even Ouran Highschool Hostclub.

(I bought this from Rightstuf.)

HASH(0xa1f24ce4) out of 5 stars Cute Silly Fun Nov. 4 2014
By Talvi - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Kiss of the Rose Princess is a zany reverse harem (a girl with a stable of cute boys) featuring a young girl (the Rose Princess) and the knights that are honor bound to protect her. All of the elements of one of my favorite manga, Pretear, are here (knights, princess, conflict with the bold one, humor), and certainly the strong willed lead heroine is in the vein of Arina Tanemura's very popular magical girls. Sure, it's a silly manga, but that's kind of the point.

Story: Anise is a normal schoolgirl with a father who travels often. He has one rule for Anise: never remove the rose choker around her neck or she will be 'punished.' When the choker mysteriously comes off one day, she finds a supernatural creature, Ninufa, who gives her cards. With a kiss, the cards (blue rose, white rose, red rose, black rose) summon a knight, boys in her school, who will protect her. But what does she need protecting from, exactly? And the knights aren't too happy to have spirited but dimwitted Anise as their princess.

The artwork here is lovely, if a bit crowded (it can be hard to understand what's going on at times). The four harem boys have different characters but yes, rather cliche: warrior, magician, scientist, shadow wielder (outgoing and bold, romantic school president, shy rich boy, dark and mysterious). But they are drawn lovely enough to keep you coming back. Ninufa reminds me a lot of a mascot from a CLAMP manga - cute and fuzzy but can transform into something bigger and scarier.

Most of the first book is Anise discovering the knights and getting to know their personalities. Her father is returning and she is trying to find the choker before he comes back and 'punishes' her. There is a dire warning at the end that her father may not be the nice and sweet person of her memories, though....

In all, cute, fun, silly, inane, and just plain fun. Reviewed from an ARC.

HASH(0xa2763138) out of 5 stars I finally can buy my favorite manga series ever! Dec 8 2014
By Jenna - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Was so so so excited to find this online, especially at a discounted price! This has been a favorite manga of mine for years, and I'm happy it's being licensed in America now too. It is a lovely series with plenty of action, humor, romance, and suspense! I would totally suggest reading this if you're into any of those genres! The book was also shipped really fast which made me even happier when it arrived!
HASH(0xa27634f8) out of 5 stars Very good start April 15 2015

~4/5

I’m impressed with this volume. I’m surprised, even, at how much I enjoyed it.

First of all, there are two color pages at the beginning of this volume. They are very pretty, and definitely worth checking out.

Second of all, the artwork is so pretty. It’s intricate and wide-eyed and very nice to look at. I wasn’t too sure what to expect, but I loved it. It did get a little messy during action panels, but that might just be that I was still getting used to the art. I wasn’t bothered by it, either way.

Now, the characters and story. Anise is our heroine, who was given a choker and told never to take it off, and unable to ever take it off, or there would be punishment. Only it falls off one day, and she ends up with four knights there to protect her and do as she says. She doesn’t know how to handle this, inexperienced as she is and not wanting to be surrounded by three popular guys and her love-to-hate classmate. Instead she tries to focus on finding her missing choker before her father comes home to find it’s gone.

Anise is a somewhat average, if enjoyable heroine. The four guys are also great, and I’m really enjoying getting to know them. There’s Kaede, her love-to-hate classmate, who just finds her to be a pain, even as he does what she wants. I like him. There’s the super-popular Tenjo, who enjoys being told what to do in a surprisingly hilarious way. Asagi, who is adorable and just wants some attention. Then dark and brooding Kurama who just finds Anise to be a bother.

This volume was surprisingly cute and funny, and very beautiful. I’m honestly really excited for the next volume, and was even delighted to see that this is a nine-volume series, not a three-volume one like I suspected. Plus, Yen Press is also releasing a series by Shouoto starting next month, and I’m looking forward to that one, too.

I’m just all kinds of excited, here.

A review copy was provided by the publisher, VIZ Media, and Erik Jansen from MediaLab PR. Thank you so, so much!
