About the Author
Born in Detroit in 1953, Mick De Giulio learned the craft of woodworking at his father's shop, where they built architectural elements such as cupolas and octagonal windows. At the age of 19, under the auspices of his father's shop, Mick built and installed his first kitchen. Some 39 years later, Mick De Giulio is now recognized internationally. His clients include CEOs, celebrities, and the otherwise well-to-do. De Giulio's widely-published work has been featured on HGTV, and CNN. De Giulio has been commissioned by Kohler to design a line of plumbing fixtures. His design for SieMatic Corp., a high-end German kitchen manufacturer, was used in the Blair House in Washington, D.C., home of the vice president. He lives in Chicago, Illinois.

I'm passionate about architecture and design, and for years have been collecting ideas for my "dream house". This book has sticky notes on more pages than I care to count. The concept of KItchen Centric is that today's kitchens are the hub of the home, the physical center of family life. That's certainly true for my family. To that end, DeGiulio showcases kitchens that are unique to the people that live in them. Admittedly these kitchens are very high end! And clearly beyond my budget. However I think many of the ideas could be interpreted at a price I can afford. But more importantly, I am totally jazzed about the way this book gets you to think about space and how you live in it. Furthermore, some of DeGiulio's "tenets" would apply to any area in your home, as he speaks about proportion, texture, light, function, etc. This book takes kitchen design to a whole new level! I can't imagine designing a kitchen, or a house, without it!
