Which material should I get?
There are three types of cutlery tray: wooden, metal, and plastic. There are pros and cons to each, but it basically all comes down to the aesthetic of your kitchen.
• If it has more of a rustic look, a wooden cutlery tray may be exactly the thing you need to complete the room. They look best in light or dark finishes and tend to be a fantastic option for a more traditional home. Plus, they’re super durable, so you won’t need to replace them for a relatively long period.
• On the other hand, a steel mesh design is perfect for a modern or contemporary kitchen. It looks super sophisticated, and they tend to be relatively hard-wearing as well. Cleanliness is also a factor. A mesh design will let all the crumbs fall through the tray and onto the drawer, making it much easier to clean. It’s also great for drying your cutlery, as well as ensuring that no moisture ends up getting left in the tray.
• Plastic cutlery trays are another fantastic option. Transparent plastic can work well with almost every kitchen design – from laminate to marble and wood – while they’re also wipeable and easy-to-clean, making them perfect for a busy kitchen with lots of coming and going. If you choose a coloured plastic, make sure that it matches the look of your kitchen. White is clean and minimalist, while red or yellow can add a welcome splash of colour.
If you’re more interested in the affordability factor, it might be better to just pick the least expensive option. However, if you care about the way that your kitchen looks, try to match the cutlery tray to your kitchen’s pre-existing style. This way, you can make sure that your kitchen not only works great but looks great too!
