I bought this book because our newspaper carries the author, Pierre Lamielle's, weekly column. I had made some of those recipes and liked them. So was reasonably confident of this book.

I gave this cookbook 4 stars because of the quirky, adorable art and hilarious, character-filled stories accompanying each recipe. It was worth buying just for that!

The recipes, on the other hand, are not quite my style. I wanted to attempt one that asked for celeriac. Say what? I tried 4 different grocery stores and not one carried it... So, on to the chicken enchiladas. The chicken braised in enchilada sauce was melt-in-your-mouth but the tortilla shells were soaked in sauce. Many people like this style; I do not. But I have had successes from this book too. All to say, read the recipes carefully to determine if you'll like them before trying them out.

After hearing about the book on CBC radio, my wife and I bought it. I wasn't thrilled with the layout. Too much "non-cook book". Maybe it is the chemist in me, but I want an easy to follow recipe , without having to sort through pictures and stories to find it.
