I like the extra lift function; it makes is so much easier to take out a smaller piece of bread without having to worry about singeing your fingers. And, the cancel button is very handy if you decide to pop up your toast a little earlier. I also like the pull out crumb-catcher--it makes it very easy to clean the toaster. (I once dropped a container of powered chicken stock right into the toaster, and the tray made it so easy to clean it all out.)
After four years of nearly daily use, we still love this toaster.
That imbalance almost makes the bagel mode pointless. All it does is turn off the centre element. If you like your bagel or English muffin to be at least lightly toasted on the outside, then simply pop them into the toaster with the outside faces looking at the weak centre element and skip the bagel button.
There's nothing magical about the toast setting - it does not measure or control anything other than time.
The crumb tray design is silly. To get it out, you have to push it in - that's counter-intuitive - and it sometimes sticks. You do need to empty it regularly or it may jam, irreversibly according to another reviewer. Even with the tray out, I invert and shake the toaster to clear out crumbs that have found their way elsewhere.
I wish the bread tray had more range in its uplift - frequently burn my figures trying to get shorter slices out of the toaster or I will repeatedly flick the handle up trying to make the toast pop out.
The finish is durable and nothing has yet broken,
I'm glad I did not pay full price - got it when there was a special discount.

We've had this for a while now and I'm not really impressed with it at all. It doesn't toast evenly and seems to get weaker the more you use it. Read morePublished 8 months ago by M. Schumacher
Bought this years ago, still working perfectly fine.
Good and reliable little toaster =)
We only use this toaster in our travel trailer. It's ok but certainly not outstanding! I would have expected more from the KitchenAid name. Read morePublished on Dec 1 2013 by SMI
