If you don't have any other options for hooking your TV up to the internet, the Smart TV functionality might be worth it for you, but otherwise I would recommend saving some money and just getting the regular LG 47 inch TV.
* - For reference, I don't have any other smart TVs to compare this to so I can't tell if you if other TVs are better in this department or if this is a problem that plagues all smart TVs.
Since this purchase, I bought an additional LG for another room (55"), and it's a "dumb" TV. But here's the thing, with the addition of an "Ott TV box" (search Amazon for this critter) I now have a much smarter TV at a lower price point. AND, depending on the software, it'll play media files from my computer as if it's a server, play Netflix, search the web, etc. etc.
All those things the "smart" TV is supposed to do, but really doesn't. Or does in such a clunky and painful way that you'll never want to use those features.
Your mileage may vary.

First of all, I want to point out that this TV does NOT come with the highly touted Magic Remote. It comes with a big ol' regular remote that is a PAIN to use. If you get this TV and have a Smart phone, do yourself a favour and download the LG remote app... it's not perfect, but it's way better than the standard remote; if you don't have a Smart phone, or don't want to use it, simply plug in a USB mouse or USB wireless mouse to control the cursor (although you will still need the remote to get the Smart TV home screen).
The WiFi was able to connect, but if you have your router on the opposite side of the house, you may experience problems with streaming. My laptop seems to be better at grabbing WiFi the signal from across the house than this TV.
My wife and I intended to use this TV basically as a giant monitor for online content. We cut the cable long ago and have been watching tv online for a few years now. The marketing for this Smart TV made it seem like we could continue to do the same without having to hook up a TV, at least with wires. First of all, we tried Netflix. That worked fine. Then we tried the YouTube app. It looked very slick, but the interface was very clumsy. Picture quality was very nice on YouTube, but very pixelated on Netflix. (Maybe have to check out the settings to stream NF in HD?Read more ›

Had this for a few years now, runs fantastic and it's made me a huge LG fan. Smart Tv element is great, but a third party item (like a Chromecast) could replace that function.Published 1 month ago by Z Pope

I'm giving it a one star because after around 1 1/2 years (1/2 year after my warranty ended) the picture died. I now have a black screen with sound. Read morePublished 10 months ago by Amazon Customer
