I really enjoyed this book, because of its originality. However, more substance would have been better. The organization and art work were excellent, and I found the subject appealing. I guess I may have been expecting more, like the greatest bus rides on the cheap around Paris, maybe more out of the way safe places to dine, maybe a fantastic place to buy great french fabrics, or a popular breakfast nook, or great people to call to join one in a morning excursion, or lunch at some local place for great traditional food. I liked the idea of a one table restaurant, but there must have been more.

HASH(0x9ef8918c) out of 5 stars Loads of fun and info IMHO! Nov. 1 2011

I have no idea what the previous reviewer was expecting but I found MY LITTLE PARIS a delight and a must have. I even bought it in French sight unseen. I'm a daily subscriber to their newsletter, a kind of 'Daily Candy' for Paris so I was hooked right off.
It's written with Parisians in mind not us and dishes all the dirt on where to thread your eyebrows, fix your place up super-Parisian, have dinner in a one-table resturant, pretend you are a connoisseur, attend a crazy trial (yep you read right), dress like a VIP, rediscover forgotten veggies (Oh yes please), turn your kids into little Picassos, laugh out loud(?), be a guinea pig for a future 3-star-chef etc. bla bla bla.
Try out their newsletter first if you're not convinced.
Altogether a delight.

HASH(0xa24c26b4) out of 5 stars If you want to learn more about Paris... Dec 3 2011

I'm going to start this review by saying that this book is not your typical guide book. You're not going to find out which restaurants are better and which hotels are cheaper. Instead, you will learn something about Paris that most guide books don't mention. The book is full of different tips about Paris - unique places to eat (a restaurant that has only one table??), unique things to do (fish pedicure, anyone?), unusual things to buy (knitted hats and scarves by a grandma of your choice), etc. If you've been to Paris and done tourist-y things but want to do something different on your next trip, or you're planning your first trip to Paris and want to do your own thing, this is the book for you. But even if you don't plan on going to Paris any time soon but still want to learn a few interesting things about beautiful Paris, you, too, will find this book useful. It's beautifully put together and full of fun illustrations.

HASH(0x9fe545f4) out of 5 stars Not what the title indicates...there are much better books July 19 2012
By JPC - Published on Amazon.com

I lived in Paris as a college student and have been many times for short layovers as a flight attendant. I went for two weeks with my son to take some classes. I wanted to find hidden shops or cafes that I had not already seen. I always take Rick Steve's Paris with me even though I feel like I know the city quite well. His books are wonderful for travel. If you want to find out the of way places from a frequent visitor, this is not the book for that. It list the things that you should do and one of them is basically have sex there. Don't need a book to remind me that Paris is a romantic city but I found this book uninformative and distasteful. Don't buy this book unless you just want to know what the author likes to do there...and none of the suggestions were worth the price of the book. I am still looking for a wonderful insiders guide.

Having just taken my first trip to Paris, I found this book in the apartment we stayed in and ordered it when we got back to the States. Love this book. It's fun to read and has some good ideas for travelers to Paris. Wish I had known about it before our trip.
HASH(0x9ed0b8f4) out of 5 stars Book only for a seasoned Paris visitor Nov. 25 2014

There are good little "secret" spots, but the locations did not seem too practical or maybe I was just expecting something different from the information that was going to be offered. I would recommend this book to a person who has traveled to Paris many times and needed a fresh look at the city and not for a first time visitor.
