"I left you something on the nightstand," she said.
"You did? What is it?"
"Just turn over and look," she pleaded.

He turned over to look, hesitantly, not wanting to look away from her. She always seemed to disappear every time he looked away. A manila envelope lay atop the white rustic nightstand and the word "Ryan" that was penned across the front was beckoning him. He glared at the envelope for just a moment before turning back to her. But she was gone.

As Ryan Boone struggles to come to grips with not being able to keep a promise he made to his dying wife, Larkin's Letters propels readers into the mind of Ryan as he struggles with frequent visits from her ghost and a series of letters she leaves behind. Ryan worked hard to become one of Hollywood's most sought-after actors, but no matter how busy or famous he became, he always remained loyal to his childhood best friend, Larkin James. When Larkin is diagnosed with leukemia, Ryan sacrifices his career to be by her side and in turn realizes how much he had always loved her. Throughout Larkin's sickness, Ryan promised that he wouldn't let her die alone. But we learn that not all of our promises are within our control.

About the Author

Jax Jillian was born in Albuquerque, NM but before she turned a year old, her parents moved east to Harrisburg, PA where she was raised. After graduating high school in 1995, Jax attended La Salle University (1999, B.A., Communication), Temple University (2001, M.Ed, Sport & Recreation Administration), and Central Pennsylvania College (2005, A.A.S, Physical Therapist Assistant). She settled in Philadelphia, PA with her husband and son before she became a writer. Jax found a passion for motion pictures at a young age when she remembers "getting lost" in films, and that passion ultimately led her down the path to writing. she loves "getting lost" in her writing and particularly loves writing heartfelt love stories with a touch of tragedy which she believes is the key to truly reaching readers. Jax is the author of Larkin's Letters and Ryan's Letters, two contemporary romance novels that have seen early success from reviewers, with both averaging 4.8/5 stars on Amazon and Goodreads. She is currently writing her third novel and aspires to write a screenplay one day. When not writing, she works full time as a physical therapist assistant and as a mom to her three-year-old son.

This is the first time reading anything by this author ,and I thoroughly enjoyed this great story. I would like to say if you have a sensitive sided then you better grab a box of tissue before you start because from the very beginning to the very end you will need them. Just remember the most important thing in this story is to read beneath all the sadness you'll find and grab a hold of the joy ,and then your fine the power of love. This is Ryan and Larkin's story, these two have known each other for a long time ever since school, and their have lived next door to each other ,until Ryan leaves home for L.A. for an acting job. Larkin is left to finish high school. But has Ryan becomes famous and wealthy,he always has Larkin by his side at his premieres. It seems weird they both get married to others and they both get divorced . When Ryan has trouble sleep and needs someone to talk to ,Larkin always seems to answer his calls and she'll read from her unfinished manuscript to him ,until he drops off to sleep it's like her voice is like a lullaby to him. This story is mostly told from Ryan's P.O.V. and the letters that Ryan received from Larkin while she was sick. This story is interwoven between past and present and Jax Jillian wrote such a smooth transition between these two ,that is what make's this such amazing story. This story will make you feel every emotions that these two people feel like you are going though it yourself. I could go on and tell you more about this amazing story, but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this story ,you won't be disappointed.

HASH(0x9df27f78) out of 5 stars A Must Read Love Story Aug. 12 2015
By Lindsay Detwiler - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
“Love is home. Love is laughter. Love is an embrace. Love is the foundation of our soul. Love is the engine that keeps us motoring through life’s journey. You’re my love, and you have given me reason to motor on through life as long as I have been able to this past year.”

Larkin’s Letters starts out feeling like a typical, emotional romance but morphs into so much more. It follows the story of Ryan, a famous actor, and his love and loss of Larkin. Ryan and Larkin were best friends their entire lives. Once Larkin is diagnosed with Leukemia, however, their relationship changes. This story really makes you think about how much you take for granted in your life and how strong love can be.

I loved that both Larkin’s and Ryan’s voices shine through in this novel. Larkin’s letters give us insight into her deepest feelings, while the book also focuses on Ryan’s memories of their time together. The transition between the two is seamless, contributing to a deep understanding of the relationship.

I also liked that the relationship was very realistic. It wasn’t a perfect relationship, and there were many problems that Ryan and Larkin faced. I liked that Jillian didn’t focus only on the beautiful moments. I liked that it felt real.

This book is truly an emotional roller coaster. Jillian does a great job at showing a tragic story in a beautiful way, verging on an almost poetic style at times. There are some really nice moments that are strengthened by Jillian’s emotional descriptions.

The only thing that bothered me was that Larkin chose to ignore her family at the end in favor of Ryan. I felt like this was a bit harsh and out of character. Nonetheless, the strength of the story overall and the excellent writing allowed me to overlook this.

If you enjoy a deep, emotional romance, this is the book for you. It focuses on the emotional connection in love, the power of friendship, and the beauty of life. This book will make you think about your loved ones differently and make you appreciate the time you have left. I would describe Jillian as Nicholas Sparks meets Mitch Albom but with a unique flair that it all her own.

Oh my Gosh! This book was great. I can't even really tell you how much I loved it. It is so incredibly moving to read. Normally I don't like this type of book but I would recommend this to anyone and everyone. From the very beginning I was pulled in and I read this book in a night. Granted I was up at 2AM bawling my eyes out but totally worth it. I fell in love with Larkin and Ryan so quickly. I love that you get to see everything that she was thinking and feeling. I almost want to tell everyone that is getting married to read this book. I don't want to give anything away but I will say that I am not a huge crier and it usually takes a lot for me. This book had me crying through the majority of it. I very rarely gives books 5 stars but this one is definitely a 5 star book. I wish I could give it 6!

Keep your Kleenex handy with this one. A short novel about Ryan and Larkin's love for one another and a promise he tried to keep. When Larkin finds out she is dying of Leukemia she writes him letters but he's afraid to read them because of his broken promise. When her ghost visits him he realizes it's time to let her go. A wonderful read that tells a true love story. There will be a sequel called Ryan's letters and I'm hoping it will be just as awesome and he returns to a productive life . Maybe we'll get a glimpse of her book.

Larkins Letters
Star Rating:

Way too many feels in this book..hell the first couple chapters had me ugly crying. I never experienced a book like this and I am glad it was my first one, job well done Jax Jillian. There is only one author that can seriously make me ugly cry and have to take a break from a book but I have found a new one. This book is remarkable in the sense that we are taken on Larkins journey thru her cancer days. It is unbelievably hard to read without the tissues. Please please give this one a chance and really immerse yourself in this book.

HASH(0x9d517cfc) out of 5 stars A sniveling wreck July 31 2014
By read-along-with-sue - Published on
Format: Paperback
I read this book in one sitting.

As I got past the story and onto letter 2, I had to take myself away to my bedroom to continue to read.

Most of the time I couldn't read out of blurred vision and a need to keep blowing my nose and wiping my tears as they were falling thick and fast down my cheeks.

Its left me a sniveling wreck.

That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it, I did.

Jax Jillian has written this book so true to life, this could be a real life drama that anyone can experience or know of.

Its taken me several hours to think about what to write for a review.

Is it well written? Yes
Would I recommend it? Yes, especially if you like a tear jerker.

I was sat in Ryan's heart as he read those letters, as he lived his memories, as he looked forward to his future.
Gutting, heart wrenching? Oh yes.
Just be ready with the tissues.
