Product Description

I met Jake when I was seventeen and at eighteen, I became his wife. The years that followed were enchanted, like a fairy tale romance.

Then, in the blink of an eye, my perfect world unraveled—I lost a part of myself and my dreams shattered around me.

At twenty-five, I was left a widow, pregnant, and mother of two.

Fast forward almost five years—I exist, but I don’t “live.” I had to learn to live without him, with only our memories and my tears. I raised our children, and I lived his dream, without a thought to myself.

That is, until the day at the stoplight, when a pair of violet eyes stared back at me. In that moment, the numbness started to disappear, and lightning hit, changing my world once again.

*This is the first book in La Flor Series and a standalone novel.
**Contemporary Romance Novel, for MATURE audience.

HASH(0xa6436b94) out of 5 stars Leap of Faith Dec 6 2015

Format: Kindle Edition
This is an exceptional standalone first book, and not just the first book in a series, but the author's first. It is a story of love, loss and second chances. But it is also about secrets, and Faith has a doozie of a secret.
Faith is seventeen when the story begins. When she falls for Jake, one of her father's soldiers, at first sight, she tells him. And at eighteen, she and Jake are married. But at twenty-five she is a widow with a daughter and one on the way.
Jake was a twenty-five year old single father when Faith entered his life, certain they were meant to be together. Their time together has been magical and he looks forward to their future. Then a fortune teller predicts he will meet death twice in the near future, surviving the first time because of a ghost with purple eyes, but not the second time. So when he meets the ghost, he forces a promise from him. Months later Jake is killed by a drunk driver. Then four years later, Faith is stopped at a red light when she looks over at the motorcyclist next to her. He is a man with purple eyes. And she feels a connection.
Zane met Jake in Afghanistan, where Jake saved his life, then Zane saved Jake's. Jake made him a promise and demanded one in return. Zane saw the devotion Jake had for Faith, and when he received word of Jake's death a year later, he makes a vow to become a better man, one worthy of Faith. Because he knows Faith is his future. And he will do whatever it takes to have her and her girls in his life.
An exceptional KU library read.

Great story but…..

I loved the plot of this extremely emotional slightly paranormal read. You actually get two love stories in one since we have the story of Faith and her late husband Jake, then we get the story of Faith and Zane.

The book opens with Jake, our first H, at a fortune teller’s table (not by choice of course). The gypsy tells him the upsetting news that he’s going to die young, but not before cheating death once with the help of a “ghost” with purple eyes. He will then trust that ghost with his treasures- his girls.

Faith fell in love with Jake at first sight when she was seventeen and he was 23 and the single father of Rylee. We get their story through flashbacks throughout the book. Jake was sweet, alpha, and made one heck of an H, which was sad since we knew his story wasn’t going to end well.

Jake and Faith had around seven years together before he was killed. After he was gone she found out she was pregnant with Skylar. She took another 4 years to mend her heart and focus on being a good Mom for the girls and to get the company Jake had started off the ground.

Zane enters the picture at this point and pretty much takes over. I loved Zane. From the get go we were made aware that Faith did not know Zane, but Zane knew her and had promised to be her and the girls protector. Obviously she was hesitant, but they had one heck of a connection. I loved how Zane went all out to show her he was the man her and her girls needed, and that he was all in.

So where does that “But….” come in? Well, it was a great story, but I wasn’t crazy about how it was written. At times, it had a fairytale-ish feel to it. Everyone was just so sweet and perfect. At others, it was almost like a documentary instead of a romance. Why, you ask? There was a whole lot of telling going on, but not a lot of show. Entire years are skipped with just a mention in passing about major events like when Jake and Faith had to get married quickly due to military orders, or Faith playing in the World Cup (we don’t even find out if her team won). It was like we’d occasionally get highlight reels.

We get the funeral but aren’t told what killed him (until much later). Then we literally fast forward 4 years and it’s mentioned almost in passing that she got her MBA so she could help get Jake’s company off the ground that he started with Gunnar. My comment…”Who the heck’s Gunnar and what corporation?” At 220 pages, there was a lot of room left to show us all this. Being with Faith as she went through her pregnancy alone, got her degree, and fought through her grief would have made this one heck of a book. Trying to basically cram two love stories into such a short book just made for a rushed book.

Even though I really liked the thought of the story and I loved the characters because I felt like there was so much missing from the book I couldn’t give it 4 full stars. I do plan on reading the next one in the series, but I’m hoping some of the problems from this one will be worked out. A good editor would have done wonders with this book.

Wow! This book seriously just blew me away! I was instantly hooked from the prologue and the rest of the story just kept me yearning for more!
I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster while reading, I cried a few times and was utterly devastated at some of the things that happened in this book. I also smiled and laughed at parts. I totally swooned and got a bit hot under the collar especially with ultra hot, sexy, dirty talking alpha Zane!
I LOVE the character of Faith, she's one of the best leading females I've read about in a while, her strength and love and hope for more is amazing especially after all she endures. And I absolutely love her bad ass side! Those that read will totally understand that.

This book is full of twists and I enjoyed the way it was written and felt like I was going along with the characters. I never saw the "reveal" coming. That was great! It was also genius to split it up into sections the way the author did!

I totally recommend this story 100%. Go grab it now!

HASH(0xa612fde0) out of 5 stars Honest Review Feb. 25 2016

So I went into this story with a leap of faith of my own by not reading the blurb and having no expectations of the story and have to say the prologue left me questioning from the start. I’ll be honest and say stories that contain ghosts are not really my thing but I did try to stay objective and let the story unfold, however if you like stories that have a spiritual theme then I think you may well like this one.

Honestly there is a good base story and enjoyed Faith as a character as a whole, she seems to be a strong and resourceful woman and mother. Zane was a little full on for me at first but once we got to fully learn his story then that made sense. Faith’s two children were lovely characters that added a lot to the story especially little Skylar who was hilarious.

Faith seems to love full on and her story is almost in two parts as we learn of her love with her now deceased husband and her life struggling to raise their two daughters alone to her new life once Zane steps into the picture, a man that seems to know things about Faith and isn’t going to take no for an answer as he wins Faith over. The story jumps back and forth giving us the backstory of Faith and Jake as we watch the story of Faith and Zane evolve. Things got a little far-fetched for me once the ghostly goings on started, though they are much later in the book, rather than just letting fate and faith being the dominant factors.

Unfortunately for me there was just too many areas in the execution of the story that caused me issues to fully enjoy this book besides the ghostly factor. It was a little too choppy with far too many back flashes to keep up, and I was left with too many questions through the book to fully appreciate the story as it unfolded which is sad as when the story did come full circle those questions were pretty much answered, I just think they were left lingering too long. And the long declarations of feelings were just too much of a too much.

My main issue though was Faith’s personality, I really liked her but her inner voice was just too immature for my liking. The way she just gave everything up to Zane just didn’t fit the character that we had been introduced to for me. It seemed one minute I felt she was a Southern Belle and as soon as she hooked up with Zane she seemed to become some ghetto chick, really for the want of a better phrase but honestly that was my thoughts. And the manner in which Zane spoke to other women was far from endearing for me.

So sadly this one was a bit of a hit and miss for me.

HASH(0xa5eb90a8) out of 5 stars Strong, Suspenseful, Beautiful and Perfect! Jan. 30 2016

What a beautiful well written and suspenseful story. I took a chance on this book and I can't lie, it was so much more than I anticipated.

Faith is the girl that spots the guy she wants and makes sure she gets him, he doesn't even stand a chance. Jake is the perfect man and its easy to see why Faith wants him and his little girl. Their life has been great until the dreaded day that she gets the knock on the door no military wife ever wants to get. Her life changes; she's twenty-five a widow, raising a daughter and surprise, she is pregnant with her dead husbands baby.

Life goes on and Faith has her girls to live for and is making sure to make her husbands dream come true. With so much going on in her life she is still lonely and eventually the perfect man enters her world. Zane is a force to be reckoned with and he is one alpha male that doesn't take no for an answer. Its so hot, amazing and simply swoon-worthy male, I am still trying to recover from his presence. Wow!

The story has a this awesome super natural effect going on. Fate is something we can't fight but the way these characters are all affected by it is powerful and one can't help but wonder how and why things happen. The super natural part of this book is a plus and refreshing to see in a book. This book takes us to the past and brings us to the present. The way that the author writes these scenes is flawless. It is easy to follow and easy to read, I commend her for this not many can pull it off so effortlessly.

As a reader I have many things I love in books, one is seeing books with Spanish written in them and seeing Latino characters portrayed in a positive light, this book gives us this and its done perfectly! The book has some pretty intense and amazing scenes and I couldn't help but get lost in them.

This is a quick read and so worth your time.

ML, congratulations on a well written and thought out story line. I can't wait to jump into book 2!
