Product Description

Product Description

In 1901, the Virginia Bridge & Iron Company began re-building a fifty-year-old Mississippi bridge. In the middle of the project, they began discovering bodies buried on the banks of the river.

Legend has it, he was so evil, he was even thrown out of the notorious Dalton Gang. Years later, he opened an inn near the river, and on foggy nights, boatmen witnessed him pacing back and forth across the bridge, waving his lantern, offering travelers a hot meal and a soft bed.

Those unfortunate enough to take him up on the hospitality were often never seen again.

To this day, eerie experiences are still reported around the bridge that now bears his name. If you travel down to Stuckey’s Bridge, be careful, for not much else is known about the man locals refer to as Old Man Stuckey…until now.

Lori Crane hits it outta the park with this amazing story! I'm not a person who typically reads a lot (busy schedule, etc), but as soon as I read the first page I couldn't put the thing down. You can't wait to read what happens next! Truly a fantastic story told in an edge-of-your-seat manner like a great thriller movie! Trust me, get this book and you'll be thoroughly entertained!

What a deliciously creepy story! Crane demonstrates her talent for writing by making a crazy killer into a character that you love and root for. Stuckey is intriguing and hilarious and leaves you gripping your seat as you rush to read what happens next. Set aside some time for this one, because you won't want to put it down!

HASH(0x9b9f051c) out of 5 stars Great Southern Folklore April 14 2014
By S.K. Nicholls - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
The Legend of Stuckey's Bridge is southern folklore exactly the way southern folklore is meant to be told. The forward by author Pat Fitzhugh sets up the historical story perfectly. Lori Crane's first chapter literally reels you into the beginning of a tale that will send shivers down your spine. I quickly turned the pages in anticipation of what would happen next.

Thomas is an evil villain, but not one that you can't care for. Lori does a fine job giving us just enough history to feel some sense of empathy for this wicked man. In fact, you almost find yourself rooting for him despite his hideous ways. Happening in the Deep South during the turn of the 20th century, Lori gives us a sense of time and place, what the harshness of life was like for the poorest and the opulence of the well-off that they so envied.

This was a quick read. I read it in one night while sitting on the back porch with my ereader in the dark listening to an owl hoot. It was the best ambiance possible for such a heinous tale and reminded me of the camping trips of my youth when we sat around the fire trying to scare the pants off each other. I thoroughly enjoyed this frightening folktale and highly recommend it.

HASH(0x9cc46528) out of 5 stars Surprised How Good! Loved every bit of it. April 11 2015

This is a small press book I picked up via a promotion and stuck on my kindle because I'd been reading the author's blog. Admittedly, I didn't expect much. In fact, it was months until I started reading it one evening--I thought I'd give it a look and if, as I expected, it wasn't very good, I'd delete it from my device.

Well, the joke was on me. It was a Sunday night when I started readiing, and Ms. Crane ruined my Monday because I stayed up reading it until almost 4am--so I faced the day with an hour and a half of sleep. I was miserable, but it was worth it. I'm not going to comment much about the plot, and risk spoilers, but trust me that Ms. Crane did a great job taking us on her trip. It's a great mix of suspense, thriller, and a touch of southern gothic history thrown in. Absolutely worth the price--and it made me happy to support an up and coming writer.
