Symptoms started to get worse. He felt light-headed and experienced chest pains on a frequent basis. It felt like he was at risk of a heart attack, as the pains were both random and at times sharp. He couldn’t get his brain to work properly. and put my thoughts together. Things that would normally be easy to remember, he couldn’t. He consulted an endocrinologist, neurologist, and cardiologist— but he got no answers and was getting worse. He could no longer exercise like he used to. A short bike ride would exacerbate his light-headedness and dizziness. He'd feel exhausted and claustrophobic, as though the walls were closing in on him. He forgot what normal felt like.
His condition became more obvious when, for some reason, one day he had a brief moment—roughly 15 minutes—where he experienced absolute clarity. Everything was normal. It was how he used to feel; the fog went away but the fog and the rest of his symptoms came back. He gathered that his problems were emotional, not medical. His GP tested their theory by putting him on an anti-anxiety medication. The fog started to clear. While he wasn’t fully back to normal, he was dramatically better. He then knew he had to do something about it aside from taking pills. He knew they were addictive it was something he needed to work on himself, and so start on his journey to help himself heal naturally.
The book covers the author's personal journey with stress and solutions he found on his way to healing. There are 13 chapters each with subparagraphs of lessons learnt. Further he divided his book into 2 parts; in the second part he addresses the matter of his body sweating, figuratively. With that he also gives the book the appropriate title. Of course he also focuses on body sweating in reality too(in part 1).
Some of the lessons:
If you go to doctors who focus on Western issues, they will also focus on Western solutions. Because their exploration is only for physical causes, they don’t explore mental and emotional issues simultaneously. One constantly tries to find a solution in a pill or a bottle while reality, the greatest solution can come from within, by making lifestyle changes and knowing that if you give your body the chance, it will do its best to seek its own state of rightness. His cholesterol and thyroid issues, along with the allergies, were all tied to the stress he created in his body.
The author became open to exploring all Western, Eastern, and holistic solutions. He was absolutely fine with a combination of both. For those of you who are not familiar with Qi Gong, it’s a Chinese practice, he explains the intended benefit of both meditational and medicinal approaches through movement and breathing.
Body Sweating: and sensitivity to heat
He found it absolutely amazing that his body could sweat as profusely as it did at times and touches on The steps he took to address the problem.
As he went along with his focus and remedial efforts , he noted that he became more spiritual than religious. He doesn’t know if he was getting a message from his body or from outside of his body. He certainly acknowledged the possibility of both as his body manifested that was his journey. It was up to him to take ownership and be responsible for it. He needed to take care of himself, and it certainly didn’t need to be at the expense of others. His solution wasn’t coming from a pill; it was coming from within. and the adjustments to what caused the physical and emotional effects experienced.
The author emphasises that this is a personal and lifetime journey, and it is a journey we need to be conscious of every day. There is no destination. And isn’t it the journey we’re all living for anyway?
Let Them See You Sweat :Part 2
This chapter ties back to the more figurative part of the title of book. It’s not about taking on the pressure, feeling it, and letting others see how stressed out you are. It’s not about embracing stress and having your audience see you perspire. It’s about asking for the support you need and feeling confident that your family, friends, and even business associates will stand by your side and support you.
"I hadn’t cut back my efforts or energy with respect either to my own businesses or to the work I was doing with my clients. Despite the fact that I was feeling awful—between the chest pains, brain fog, shortness of breath, and other symptoms—I had been able to hide it. For much of this time, my symptoms had still gone undiagnosed. After I knew that it was stress and panic attacks, I began working on it on my own. In the initial stages, my solution was a balance of medication and lifestyle changes. Over time, I decided to get off the medication."
He made the decision that he needed to share what was going on with others in his life and started with his friends. It was difficult, but he felt to be authentic.
They noticed he had difficulty remembering things, searching for words and being forgetful. It was a vulnerable place to be, but he felt like I needed to be open. If it was physical, sharing would have been easy. Telling them that he was overly stressed, not dealing with it well, and having panic attacks regularly wasn’t easy. Telling them that had literally had 10 -15 minutes of mental clarity in that past year was difficult. I didn’t have to put on a façade as their leader who wasn’t supposed to show weakness or fallibilities or insecurities.
The author is convinced the the solutions he has researched and explored, convinces that we need to explore within ourselves what we might be doing psychologically that can be causing physical symptoms. And if we aren’t being true to ourselves—being authentic—then he believes we give away our power. And there can be a price to pay. He started to work on himself naturally. Between that and his holistic efforts of acupuncture, therapy, massage, meditation, and personal growth books, he is geared to solve his problem.
The author tells that one of the toughest things to turn down was a class an associate of his and he teach called “Presenting Powerfully.” It’s her workshop, and years ago, she asked the author if he would coteach it with her. She teaches the curriculum, and he conduct private coaching sessions for the attendees. All the knowledge gathered in his teachings is also incorporated in his book.
A book very valuable to apply in your own life management of stress.

“Let Them See You Sweat” is written by Michael Jeffrey Levin - a male writer - who admits to feeling pain, experiencing moments of weakness and periods of needing the help of others while facing painful and troubling times in his life. We all are aware of how inflated the male ego can be, until maybe on the point of death, before a man will ask for help. As such I found Michael’s sharing of his painful journey a very pleasant surprise and also helpful in the different coping skills that he used.
Michael’s journey hopefully gets more readership as we all need to see his troubles and learn from them. We need to take the time for ourselves to love and care for ourselves.
He appears to have been very unfortunate in having so many different illnesses which are attributed to his life style and trying to please others over himself. I personally have suffered from bad bouts of stress and whilst medication helped me get back on my feet, it was only a temporary help because you know that deep down the only person who can help you is yourself. When you feel overwhelmed by life then common sense tells you to take a step back and put yourself first.
I feel this gentleman never really got over the loss of his parents at a very young age and took the responsibility of looking after his sister and trying to please others to the detriment of his own health.
