This book is an amazing one. A must read book. And believe me, in over 50 years I have read hundreds, if not thousands of so-called self-help books. I was always searching for THE book that would change my life forever. Many were helpful to a certain extent, I must say, but this one goes beyond that. For the first time in my life (I am 73, never too late to learn and improve!) things are REALLY different. I am a changed person. What I read changed my way to envision life and as a boomerang effect the people around me changed. Naturally, almost automatically. Actually, my whole world changed. I live in the same house, I have the same husband, the same friends, the same cat, the same car, etc. etc., but things are different, everything is so much easier to deal with. I feel free for the first time in my life. I feel as if Dr. Hawkins had provided me with a magic wand! Read that book, I almost beg you, because it is really a life changing one. Read it slowly, read it more than once, each time you will learn new things about yourself and how imperfect you are and about how good it feels to accept that imperfection. Accept yourself, love yourself, and you will experience a whole new life even if you're 95 years old! Remember, it is NEVER too late!

This was a grad coursework book for me, but became one of my favourite reads. Amazing book that shifts your perspective on life and its priorities. I does not promote any particular religion, rather a way of being--use a positive lens, letting go of the negative emotions; love and care for others, etc. Simple concepts, but he actually goes beyond discussing them, and instead shows you how to do it. Whether you are going through tragedy, feel stressed, or just want a fascinating read, this is a great book.
By the way, the one "negative" review seems to miss the point of the book, discussing semantics about Hawkins, rather than actually reviewing the content of the book--doesn't really seem like a review, IMO. Check out that person's other reviews--they are all negative slants towards only Hawkins books. Interesting....

Recommended by Wayne Dyer and Hay House, I purchased the book without the normal careful perusal before I buy. It is indeed refreshingly easy to follow, but I was actually jolted by feelings of rejection and disagreement as I read. The lay language seems to verge on the overly simplistic verging on judgmental statements without enough background explanation. Or is it merely that I've read so much about letting go the words have become repetitive drum beats as I recognize similar instructions? He calls our disgust and anger the "small, mean" part of ourselves that need to be disciplined. David Burns reminds us never to say always/never. I don't believe genuine victimization by an abuser calls forth the small, mean parts of us in reaction. There was another such moment as I read. It feeds my contemplation and I am not saying he's wrong: it's a new twist and I'm chewing on his new twists out of respect for those who recommended the book. I'll actually do almost anything and read almost anything in my search to learn how to unmoor myself from the toxic without lashing back to punish.

Dr Hawkins has written a clear and practical guide for seekers to understand the mechanics of mental resistance to emotional and mental states. More importantly, he teaches us how to constructively work with the daily challenges of human reactivity which comes in in many forms including anger, guilt, shame, blame, grief, depression etc.. In doing so, Dr Hawkins teaches us how to leverage these states as a passage way to spiritual elevation and, for those not on a spiritual path, provides way to live more happily with whatever comes your way. It takes intestinal fortitude and dedication to apply this teaching, but it is exponentially easier compared to being buffeted about our own reactivity and blaming others.

Absolutely a great book. Some people may think "I don't have anything to "Let go of.." -That's not really what the book is about "don't judge this book based on the title". Read this book with an open mind. No judgements. Just read the words and try to reflect on how YOU can relate to it. Most importantly be honest with yourself while reading this book. Surrending positive and negative feelings. This book also provides a discourse on health and wellness. How you can heal yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually. Great read! I recommend reading this book if you want to be happier. This book was a life changer because it provides a different perspective then what we've been taught based on our experiences at work and in our personal lives..Society as a whole. The author makes this book interesting because their is a level of humor and realness.
