Product Description

There is only one thing in life that professional pastry Chef Priscilla Westcott values more than baking and wine, and that’s honesty. A quality she soon learns that her marriage lacks when her husband runs off with their next door neighbor.

Divorced and alone, Priscilla is determined to make changes in her life. She decides to approach her new goals like one of her beloved recipes. Surely with a little time, a dash of patience, and measured planning she can whip herself—and her life—back into shape.

However, when a new—and utterly delicious—neighbor takes up residence in the house that ruined her marriage, Priscilla fears that her careful world will fold faster than a deflated soufflé.

Trent Walker knows what he wants and his sweet, sassy neighbor is at the top of the list. He’s certain that the chemistry between them would be explosive, but Priscilla fears that an affair with him, however hot, could be a recipe for disaster.

Life Next Door was the perfect light-hearted contemporary romance! :) It was fun, and the characters were absolutely adorable, and definitely quirky! It had me smiling and grinning like crazy, laughing, and it even had me tearing up at times.

As a HUGE fan of sugar, I could totally relate to Cece (a.k.a. Priscilla)! I absolutely loved her little quirks and how she turned to baking (and often wine :P) whenever she had a problem or was stressed. I really liked Trent, too! He was a hunky guy, and definitely tough, but I loved how Cece brought out his soft side. The two of them together were fantastic! They had some serious chemistry, and I loved the teasing and banter between them! :D

The story was pretty light-hearted. Cece was recently divorced and dealing with a bit of betrayal after her breakup. She handled it in a rather immature, yet endearingly hilarious way. I really loved Cece, but I definitely wanted to shake her into action every once in a while. Thankfully, her friends were awesome...and Trent was, too! They never let her stew too long, and would force her into acting a bit more mature! haha ;D While there was some miscommunication between Cece and Trent, I loved seeing them move past it and grow stronger! I'm always a fan of couples actually talking and working things out!! It's definitely one of the things in contemporary romance that I love to see! :D

Overall, I thought that Life Next Door was an adorable story! I really enjoyed the characters, and loved their passion together. I'd recommend Life Next Door to anyone looking for a sweet contemporary romance with some great chemistry, especially if you like a happily ever after! ;)

I was gifted with a copy of JD Hollyfield's Life Next Door and I have to say that this book was even better than her first!

I love how she makes the female lead endearing to her readers, and I have to say I love how they are a bit klutzy!

I have read tons of books and have come across similar story lines in way of female pastry chef, but I definitely enjoy the element of suspense that this book offered. It was a fast read and had an easier flow this time around and kept me wanting to know more.

I'd definitely recommend JD Hollyfield to readers as she definitely has something to offer. I would love to see her delve into a dual point of view book (maybe she already has), as I love to know what the male lead goes through on his side of the story.

4 stars!!

After reading a book called wallbanger that everyone loved in the comments and talked about how funny it was and I hated it I normally don't buy rom com type of books. This book forever changed my opinion because I really found myself laughing outloud at parts and I loved every minute of it. Fun steamy fantastic read

5.0 out of 5 stars Wicked funny, sexy, and totally entertaining Nov. 16 2014

Favorite Quotes:

“If I ever lost my eyesight, at least my drinking habits would survive. My body is trained to sniff out wine.”

“We tried to be civil with one another, but having your soon-to-be-ex living next door with your trashy neighbor just didn’t allow for friendly banter.”

“I am going to spend the rest of our lives loving you like you deserve to be loved. And till our dying breath, I will still never be able to show you just how deeply that love runs for me.”

“Then I’ll show you just how lucky of a girl you are by making you scream my name in languages you didn’t even know you could speak.”

My Review:

My first time reading Ms. Hollyfield’s work, and I want to stalk her, read every sentence she has ever scribbled, and tell her I loved this book from page one. She is wicked funny and not afraid to make fun of anybody or anything. Excellently crafted, entertaining, and keenly insightful about human nature and personal pain. I chuckled aloud while reading and truly just adored it. Our main character has a rough go of it for quite some time, and after divorcing her cheater ass of a husband, has become a bit of a shrew. A funny, wine soaked, talented, bitter, angry, childish, snarky, shrew. Understandable really, I would be her best friend and help her plot his demise while guzzling vino with her any day of the week. When she gets a new neighbor and her world is up-ended, the fun really begins. I will never look at an egg carton the same way. I have since noticed that this book is part of a series, yet each are self-contained stories – and I LOVE that! I have added this author to my watch list and have just put every one of her books on my TBR!

5.0 out of 5 stars Life Next Door Is Amazing Nov. 3 2014

Let me start out by saying this I was given an ARC of this book for my honest review. That being said fan freaking tastic!! It's a comedy mixed with a lot of romance. I laughed so much through this book. " LOOK AWAY". ......SPOILERS!!!!! Trent now that is one thing I didn't see coming shocked the hell out of me. He was funny and very determined which is a huge plus when it comes to the male character in a book. Priscilla what a name to have goes with her sassy personality. She is what I would call the klutz and why me person because well I am just the same. I could relate to her through this whole book she was hurt from her past and had to see that hurt everyday by seeing the house next door. I'm hoping that there will be more to this book because I'm kind of curious to see about Trent's sister and where that goes. I highly recommend this book it will make you laugh. A great romantic comedy***** wish I could give more than a 5 star rating because it's well deserved. Now let's talk about the authors job this part is easy damn she is amazing. Amazingly written and very talented writer if you see her name you don't need to know what the book is about just one click it you won't be disappointed!!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars = I freaking LOVED this book!!! Nov. 25 2014

Straight out ... I loved it. It's the second closest I've come to recreating that feeling I get when I finish a KA book - Nicola Claire being the first. To sum it up, Priscilla Westcott is Murphy's b!tch, Murphy's Law that is - if it can go wrong, it will ... spectacularly. I spent a good part of the book outright laughing at the situations Priscilla found herself in because I could so easily relate; case in point, the fence jumping scene is eerily similar to something I've experienced myself. Sadly though, I cannot claim to have gotten cozy with the sexy neighbor next door.

I adored Priscilla. Every time life tried to knock her down, she'd get right back up and keep moving forward. That's not to say that she handled the stumbles gracefully or in the most mature manners, and that's actually what made her so much fun. Priscilla did what so many of us would love to do, but don't and her obsession with egging is a perfect example of that. So of course I was tickled pink for her when Trent stepped up his Alpha male ways and pursued her relentlessly. Trent was so freaking sexy that Priscilla wasn't the only one engaging in some thigh clenching. Again, a man who is skilled at wall sex always gets extra points in my book. Not that Trent needed any extra points because the man wasn't just alpha hot, he could be unbelievably sweet when Priscilla needed it. Even though I saw the flashing "Danger" sign before either of them, I was still devastated for Priscilla when she and Trent broke up.

Life Next Door is a great example of why I love reading romances. Knowing that the couple is going to get their happy ending is a good thing, but it is the journey they must take to get there that truly makes the read for me. And Ms. Hollyfield had done a wonderful job with the journey she has created for Priscilla and Trent. I loved Priscilla. I loved Trent. What I loved most was Priscilla and Trent as a couple. Life Next Door was an easy read and I am so glad that it was a stand-alone book because I didn't have time to read book one first, but I will be going back to read Life in a Rut, Love Not Included because I definitely enjoyed the author's writing and look forward to reading more of her work.

I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was in a bad mood. It was a really crappy day Nov. 14 2014

5 stars

When I picked up this book, I was in a bad mood. It was a really crappy day. Then I started this book and I laughed so hard and was so entertained, it turned my mood around. I went to bed happy and maybe a little late too! I could not put it down!!

Priscilla Westcott is having a hard time. Her husband has left her for the next door neighbor. Jaded and pissed off, she does what any women would do, she throws eggs at the hussies' former home. Former, because the ex neighbor has now moved in with her ex husband. Where they are starting a new life and living haply ever after and she is left to pick up the piece of her life. Meanwhile, Priscilla or Ce Ce is stewing in her unhappiness while drinking wine, eating chocolate and being miserable (her misery makes for hysterical laughing by me). Cece, to me, represented all women who have been dealt a bad hand at love. A little egg throwing never hurt anyone.

Then, a hot guy moves in next door. With his hotness, he bring out even more hysteric with Cece. On a good day she is clumsy. With hotly Trent Walker moving into to her neighborhood and eventually her heart, it made for even more laughs.

Trant was pretty funny himself. He has some GREAT lines in this book. He knew all the right things to say to get under CeCe's skin, and making her hot at the same time! I loved Trent from the second he showed up. He had me at hello. Trent, for me, was sarcastic and charming with a whole lot of sexy wrapped into one awesome package.

Of course, Trent is not 100 percent honest with CeCe about himself. He may have left out some key information about who he is. This does cause a little angst. Overall though, nothing that didn't work out well in the book. A little angst never hurt anyone!!!

The best part of reading Life Next Door, was going on Goodreads and realizing I read J.D. Hollyfield's other book Life in a Rut, Love Not Included and LOVED that one too. So, now I know I have a new go to author for books I love!! Her books are very well written. Funny, smart and just over all fun!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Baking and Hot Sex never sounded So Good Nov. 3 2014

This is the first I have read from J.D. Hollyfield and have to say it was filled with romance, hot sexy action and most of all fun filled comedy. At first it was a little slow yet we know more of why Priscilla is hesitant about Trent and I feel for her. All in all it is one I laughed all the way.
