Product Description

Product Description

One part biography, one part prayer book, The Life and Prayers of Saint Joan of Arc is an essential book for any Christian.

In understanding true poverty, practicing total detachment, lacking pride and demonstrating only obedience, John epitomized the call of Jesus Christ for his followers to take up their cross and follow him, before the true meaning of his words were even understood.

While Jesus himself described John the Baptist as a burning and shining lamp, John understood he was born only to direct us to the light of the Savoir.

Expressing heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifice, suffering and dedication to God shown by John the Baptist, all Christians today can bask in the light of Jesus.

This edition has a linked Table of Contents and has been wonderfully formatted (searchable and interlinked) to work on your eBook reader.

You can purchase additional religious works directly from Wyatt North Publishing.

HASH(0xb20f642c) out of 5 stars The Life and Prayers of Saint John (the Baptist) Feb. 22 2013
By Don Schwab - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
As with all the books in this series there is a lot of information on the saint. After finishing the first part of the book (the biography)I realized how little I really knew about the Baptist. The short but well presented biography is well worth the price of this small book. I recommend, if you have not been introduced to this series, you become familiar with them. Starting with this volume, you will not be disappointed.

I confess I first got into this series to make finding particular prayers to the various saints easier to access. However, the biographies are always informative and spirituality enlightening.

HASH(0xa7682cb4) out of 5 stars Similarities of their lives Feb. 21 2013

Format: Kindle Edition
Even though I have read many religious themed books, this little eBook talked about St. John the Baptist and Jesus in an inspiring and new way. I always assumed that Jesus and John were cousins who spent childhood time together; not so according to the author. The book also paralleled the lives of Jesus and St. John telling how they were mirrored in some aspects such as their suffering, time spent in the desert and violent deaths. I highly recommend spending some time with the gentle writing that draws in the reader while informing and guiding with the prayers and songs provided at the end.

HASH(0xa77cee94) out of 5 stars St John the Baptist Feb. 25 2013
By Kathryn W - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
The Life and Prayers of Saint John the Baptist tells us the compelling story of his birth that was foretold in the Old Testament and his life as precursor to the Messiah Jesus Christ.

The book also mentions that John the Baptist is considered to be only the third person born without original sin. I never remembered being taught that so I did look up further information.
Unlike Jesus or Mary, John is still considered to have had the stain of original sin upon his conception.
At the Visitation (Luke 1:41) Mary went to visit her cousin Elizabeth who was pregnant with John.
When Elizabeth saw Mary-- John LEAPED in his mother's womb. It's considered that John leaped because even in his mother's womb he was aware of the divine presence of Jesus in Mary's womb. Elizabeth was also then filled with the Holy Spirit and it is considered then that John was cleansed of original sin while in the womb because the Holy Spirit cannot reside where there is sin. Some references also describe it as when he leaped John received Baptism by faith.

The book also contains a wonderful click or touch table of contents. Another good feature it has is text to speech allows you to listen to the book when you don't feel like reading or are doing something else.( for keyboard kindle use the symbol Aa)

All the books in the saints series are excellent I recommend also The Life and Prayers of Saint Joan of Arc and The Life and Prayers of Saint Teresa of Avila.

Since little is known about John the Baptist, this book gives some very interesting information into his life other than what is mentioned in the New Testament.

HASH(0xa77cec90) out of 5 stars Not Impressed May 18 2015

This book is written by and for Catholics, so it is not for me. It did contain some good facts about John the Baptist that I had never considered, like the parallels between his life and that of Jesus. However, it lost me when it claimed that John was born without original sin and lived a perfect life. That description applies only to our Lord, Jesus Christ. If this had not been such a short book, I never would have made it through!

One more thing, the title is misleading. It says "Prayer OF Saint John" while the prayers included are prayers TO Saint John. Not being a Catholic, I do not pray to the saints.
