Product Description

From the creator of Coronation Street comes a classic love story

Tony Warren, the man who invented Elsie Tanner and Ena Sharples now introduces a whole new gallery of unforgettable characters in a stunning debut novel.

It is a story - spanning forty years - of a woman, and of a city. It is the story of Sorrel Starkey, destined to become one of the greatest television stars, fated to rise to the heights of fame and fortune, and to do battle with sorrow and humiliation.

It is a story of joy, of hope and of human fallibility. Above all it is a love story you will never forget.

About the Author

Tony Warren is a former actor who turned into Britain's youngest scriptwriter. In 1960 he created Coronation Street and wrote all the early episodes. He also devised the film Ferry 'Cross the Mersey. At the end of the 60s he disappeared from the public eye, though the following decade of drink and drug addiction has been well chronicled by the tabloid newspapers. He abandoned these addictions over tean years ago. The Lights of Manchester represents his first piece of major creative writing since his recovery. Nowadays Tony Warren is consultant to Coronation Street and lives in Manchester.
