Product Description

The Like a Lady serial is a Southern, romantic comedy that will leave you laughing and swooning in equal measure. This boxset contains the complete four novella serial all in one package. Get Mason and Red’s entire story in one setting!

What reviewers are saying:

Books and Boys: “This was such a fun story. It was short and sweet and kept me entertained. Lots of laugh out loud humor.”
Nerd Girl Official: “I think that this is a fun, no brainer for any reader! It is easily read in an afternoon, while floating in the pool, or sitting on the beach - just beware that you will laugh out loud and that you will smile and look a bit odd to someone if they catch you."

Big Girl Panties:
Mom always tells me that when life gives you lemons you squeeze the heck out of them and hope for some lemonade, but after catching that no-good lying, jerk of a bastard cheating on me seconds before we were supposed to be married, I do what any self-respecting Southern girl would do: throw a punch and hide under my blankie. Now, Mary Lou thinks I need a night of fun and adventure. I agree to go out, planning to get her off my back, but when I find myself in Mason Pierce’s arms, I’m thanking my lucky stars, and my best friend. ~Red

Freemont, Oklahoma, is the last place on the whole damned planet that I want to spend my summer and working on my parents’ ranch is the last thing I want to do, but damned if that’s not what I’m doing. Monroe and I need a night away from this place, a night to blow off steam. A party at the lake sounds like a mighty fine idea, and after catching a glimpse of Red Summers in the firelight, I’m quickly changing my tune. ~Mason

Hide Your Crazy:
Woah! It’s the only thing that I can think because my head's so full of Mason Pierce I can’t think about anything else. Who would have thought two weeks could change your perception so completely? Not me, but it surely has. I’m a gonner: hook, line, and sinker. There’s only one thing runnin’ around my head, and it’s Mason. I want him. Bad. It’s fun. It’s light. The sex is explosive. What more can a girl ask for? Right?~Red

My bed. My truck. And everywhere else I can think of. That’s where I want Red, and I want her there, now, without all the damned interruptions that seem to surround us. Yeah, they’re supposed to be our friends, but I’m seriously starting to wonder if they’re getting off torturing me. Because that’s what this is, wanting Red, having Red but not being able to have her, it’s torture.~Mason

Fix Your Makeup:
It’s a summer fling; just keep telling yourself that and you’ll be alright. This thing with Mason Pierce, it’s just a fling, something fun to pass the time. He’s a rebound from the disastrous breakup, a band-aid, a patch over a wound that will help the hurt heal, right? ~Red

If someone had told me two months ago that I’d be spending the summer with Red Summers in my arms, I’d have called them crazy, but here I am and here she is. Life is just about as perfect as it can be. Except, it feels like she’s pulling away instead of drawing closer. Everyday, it seems that Red is putting more and more distance between us, and I don’t understand why. ~Mason

Say A Prayer:
It hurts. God, does it ever hurt. Having your heart ripped from its home in your chest, metaphorically or literally, isn’t a fun thing. No, it’s gruesome, and once in a lifetime was more than enough. Twice. Twice is almost unbearable. I’ll make it, though. I’m strong enough to persevere, to move on, and I will because I know that there’s no other option. I can’t stop living. I won’t stop living. ~Red

One step. Two. I’ll take it a day at a time and hope to hell the pain goes away. The thing is, I know it won’t. It just keeps getting stronger because without her love, I’m lost. And it sucks. This feeling, the loss, it’s getting worse, but what am I supposed to do about it? She won’t listen to me. Nothing I say has swayed her, not a bit. Why can’t she see I’m miserable without her?

1) Big Girl Panties

Scarlett Summers, aka Red, was getting married when her fiance, Jake Robertson, apparently forgot to whom and was caught my Red just before the ceremony. Now Mary Lou, her best friend, believes that it is time to put the past behind her and move on with her life.

Mason Pierce has always had a thing for Red and when he overhears Jake putting Red down he steps in to save the day. As both Red and Mason realize they have had feelings for each other all this time will they allow themselves to move forward or is the timing off for Red to start another relationship?

I thought this book was great and laughed my way through many parts and cringed at some others!

I can't believe what Jake did to Red and how he treated her during and after their relationship. He certainly deserves something evil coming his way!

Mason was so swoon-worthy right from the beginning and I loved how protective he was over Red. He is going through so much and I'm interested to see where things are headed with him due to his father.

I felt so bad for Red and she deserves so much better than Jake and I truly hope she is able to hold onto Mason in the future as I have no idea what is coming!

Can't wait for the next book!

2) Hide Your Crazy

This is the second book in the Like A Lady series and book one - Big Girl Panties needs to be read first.

Scarlett "Red" Summers is trying to get her life back on track after catching her fiance Jake Roberson cheating on her.

Since then Red has moved on with Mason Pierce but nothing is as easy as it is but with her best friend Mary Lou at her side things are bound to get crazy!

I loved this series! I couldn't put it down. Mason and Red were awesome characters and couple! I loved all the secondary characters too! I need my own Mason! He was a sexy and swoon worthy book boyfriend!! The sex scenes were so hot! The only issue I had was the ending, I felt like it just ended quickly but hopefully we get more of Mason and Red!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Drama-filled and disjointed timelines Feb. 22 2017

S.J. Sawyer is a new to me author. Full disclosure, I didn’t realize the story included such a large amount of the high school narrative. I’m not much of a YA fan, so had I known that, I probably would have passed on this one. As it stood there was too many juvenile reactions from the characters, even in the present day, for me to love this book. Though I am always up for a missed connection romance, this fell flat for me because I never connected with the characters, I struggled with the over-the-top drama, and the pacing was jarring.

The opening scenes set the stage for the drama that ensues throughout the book. The heroine, Red, happens upon her groom hooking up with a bridesmaid at the church moments before they’re set to walk down the aisle. Though there were definitely aspects of the heroine I liked and identified with, I never cared for her much as the heroine. Her personality was a study of contrasts, sometimes haughty, other times a pushover. I struggled to believe she was desired by so many boys in her small town, yet utterly clueless about her appeal- enough to allow her high school boyfriend to treat her so poorly. It went beyond the typical heroine who doesn’t recognize her own worth, and distanced me from her character. I needed an explanation for her attitude or acceptance of that relationship, and I never got it. That said, she was cute with the hero in this romance, completely caught up with him. It definitely spoke of that all-consuming young love. Mason offered more appeal than Red for me. He was very sweet, almost overly so for a young adult, but it worked. The serial also introduces multiple secondary characters. Though typical for the first in a series, at times there was too much development of the secondary characters and their storylines and it caused the story’s pace to slow.

Mason and Red’s past and long-standing desire for one another was charming. The author thoroughly explained their failure to act on this attraction in high school, and I was eager to see them get their happily ever after. However, the back and forth and failure to admit long harbored feelings felt drawn out after a while. I also wished the connection was more palpable between Red and Mason. For as long as they withheld their feelings, I expected that emotion to jump off the page. Rather there was a lot of telling instead of showing. I was a little thrown with all the hooking up happening in the background. There was a lot of jostling of secondary characters’ relationships on their own, even occasionally involving the primary characters. I understood these details were included for conflict, but it began to feel unnecessary. The conflicts themselves often were over the top- reactions dramatized, issues blown out of proportion. All of these aspects lent to the story feeling more young adult than new adult and curtailed my interest.

The pacing also felt off and made it very difficult to get caught up in the storyline. There were a lot of jumps in time. While these were noted, the frequency majorly disrupted the book’s flow. Additionally, some of the flashbacks felt insignificant and after a while I found myself skimming those scenes. However, because this is a romance about a missed connection and high school love, the flashbacks made sense. What I didn’t understand were the time jumps within the present timeline. For example, a scene on Sunday would play out and then it cut to a scene from five days prior. The excessive back and forth movement within a fixed timeline was jarring and made me lose interest in the romance. This disinterest compounded with the retelling of scenes from both character’s POV. After a while, it felt like I was in a time warp. Time jumps are tricky in any novel, but the frequency and repetitiveness significantly disrupted the cohesiveness of this serial.

Although this serial promised a sassy heroine, comedic moments, and a missed love connection, it missed the mark for me. Unfortunately, the lack of a connection to the characters and an awkward pacing made this a lackluster read. I think fans of YA romances or those who like over-the-top drama may be a better suited audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Series/Great Author June 20 2016
By Cristal Hill - Published on Amazon.com

I have read all 4 books in the Like A Lady Series and I loved every one of them. I like that it was told from more than just one point of view, I mean men and women think and interpret each other's behavior, actions and tone different so what she sees as rejection may just be him being completely clueless😃. Anyway, the first was a perfects introduction to the characters and their unique personalities. I appreciate that each book showed steady progression considering it took place over one summer and I'm appreciated the inclusion of much needed glimpses of the past. I was a little apprehensive as to where author was going with the final book though considering the way the 3rd ended, no spoilers here, gonna have to read it if you want to know what I mean. I loved the chemistry Scarlett (aka Red) and Mason had from the start and I like how Mrs. Sawyer described all the characters and how she included all of them throughout the series, too often, especially toward the end of a book or series characters get left in the dust of the main pair leaving me wondering where they disappeared to. I hope Red and Mason make cameo appearances in future books (😉). Aside from one or two people, I would love to find out what happens to the rest of the characters. Definitely a must read series.

Book 1:
Loved this story. Love the characters and the unique story-line. I couldn't put this book down. And I NEED book 2 ASAP. Have to know how the story line continues!!!

Book 2:
Another great book in this series..It leaves you with needing to know even more now...Loving the characters and then we meet some new characters. With every page you read in this one, you're like what is going to happen next. It was hard to put this book down. I cannot WAIT for book 3 in this series!!

Book 3:
The most anticipated book in the series so far. I chewed off almost 3 fingernails and my stomach was in knots. Wondering & wondering, if IT was going to happen. Waiting...and waiting...There is so much communication that is needed between characters, so much that is going to happen when Summer comes to an end. Throw in a surprise couple and then, we are needing more!! Just when I thought these characters couldn't get any more interesting. LOVE this series & SJ Sawyer!!

Book 4 review:
LOVED this book. It finally brought everything together. Gave us all our answers and even hinted at possible spin offs in the future. I am really going to miss these characters. We can go back and re read the series as a whole now to bring them back anytime.
