Product Description

What would happen if you took a bright, neglected girl out of a marginal home and placed her in the perfect environment for healing and growth? Lila Blue, a heartwarming coming of age novel set on the Oregon Coast in the summer of 1985, answers that question. Cassandra feels lost when mother puts her on a Greyhound bus with nothing but a business card of a relative she’s never met. Imagine her surprise when she ends up perched on the edge of a magnificent beach with Lila Blue, a wise grandmother who welcomes her with open arms. During the next several weeks, Cassandra falls in love with her grandmother and with Rainbow Village, a caring community of artisans and eccentrics, and she envisions a rich, passionate life for herself in this new home. Now that Cassandra knows her true heart’s desire though, she fears her self-indulgent mother will take her back on a whim. If you love believable characters who grow through adversity to become independent, creative individuals, you’ll love Lila Blue.

For many years Annie Katz worked on the Oregon Coast as a barber, waitress, bookstore clerk, and college teacher. Her life there inspired the delightful characters and dramatic adventures of Rainbow Village, the fictional world of Lila Blue.

HASH(0xa174db34) out of 5 stars Beautifully written - a MUST read! Oct. 7 2012

Lila Blue is a beautifully written, heart warming, poignant and memorable story. It usually takes me a long time to read a novel but I couldn't put this one down. The twists and turns not only captured my attention but provided an opportunity to examine my own beliefs. Lila's "simple" wisdom is refreshing and life-changing. Lila Blue, a story for all ages, would make a perfect gift to yourself or anyone you love.

HASH(0xa1d6969c) out of 5 stars Attention all Mothers & Grandmothers! Oct. 8 2012

If you've ever doubted the positive influence of a Mother or Grandmother, try reading and sharing this book with your daughters or grand daughters , especially those in their pre teen years. It will promote some interesting and thought filled conversations.

It is a lovely heart warming story written through the thoughts and voice of a 12yr old girl. I can just see each of us Mothers & Grandmas in the lively, interesting and slightly quirky 'Lila Blue". I also saw my young self & my daughter as Cassandra, the young, bright and challenging granddaughter. Do read it. It is a gem.

HASH(0xa172ea98) out of 5 stars Lila Blue Oct. 25 2012

First things first. I am related to the author and we have been close friends for sixty years. We have shared many things over the years via letters, chats, visits, instant messages and now Skype. Now let's get to the book. At first I started reading the book at a fast and furious pace wanting to find out what "happened". But then I started to slow the pace down and enjoy a smaller sampling at a time. Like all of us the book is a journey through part of our life. The happy moments, sad moments and moments we reflect on because they shaped our lives. The author is able to bring her characters to life. You can feel the sand, smell the sea air and hear the cats "talk". I hope you will enjoy the book as much as I did. But I did walk down that beach, stare out those windows and "talk" with Chloe and Zoë.

HASH(0xa1c16b58) out of 5 stars A real gem in the desert of free Kindle books May 22 2013

Having just deleted 155 free Kindle books from my account (uber time consuming, since it can only be done book by book), I needed a new plan...

Literary Fiction was a good place to start and Lila Blue looked promising.

Not one reviewer mentioned poor grammar, misspelling, convoluted story line, one dimensional characters or the need for an editor.

And the story... well, take my word for it, you will NOT be disappointed.

HASH(0xa24b3a14) out of 5 stars A delightful book Dec 26 2012

A delightful book about a lovable grandmother and her evolving teenage granddaughter. I especially appreciated that its charm came from believable characters interacting in human ways responding to everyday challenges. No intricate plots based on deception and secrets. No jumping back and forth across the centuries. Just simple, clear writing that touches the heart. I especially appreciated that I ended up feeling better everytime I read more.
