The Lion King (Two-Disc Platinu
Not an ideal choice for younger kids, this hip and violent animated feature from Disney was nevertheless a huge smash in theaters and on video, and it continues to enjoy life in an acclaimed Broadway production. The story finds a lion cub, son of a king, sent into exile after his father is sabotaged by a rivalrous uncle. The little hero finds his way into the "circle of life" with some new friends and eventually comes back to reclaim his proper place. Characters are very strong, vocal performances by the likes of Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Whoopi Goldberg are terrific, the jokes are aimed as much (if not more) at adults than kids, the animation is sometimes breathtaking, and the music is more palatable than in many Disney features. But be cautious: this is too intense for the Rugrat crowd. --Tom Keogh
How good-looking is the DVD restoration of Disney's popular animated film? Take a look at the serviceable but dull film clips incorporated in the plethora of extras and compare them to the vivid gorgeousness of the film presentation. This "special edition" also adds a 90-second song ("Morning Report") that originated in the lavish stage musical. To Disney's credit, the original theatrical version is also included, both restored and featuring two 5.1 soundtracks: Dolby Digital and a new Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix, which does sound brighter. As with the Disney Platinum line, everything is thrown into the discs, except an outsider's voice (the rah-rahs of Disney grow tiresome at times). The excellent commentary from the directors and producer, originally on the laser disc, is hidden under the audio set-up menu.
The second disc is organized by 20-minute-ish "journeys" tackling the elements of story, music, et cetera, including good background on the awkward Shakespearean origins at Disney where it was referred as "Bamlet." The most interesting journey follows the landmark stage production, and the kids should be transfixed by shots of the real African wildlife in the animal journey. Three deleted segments are real curios, including an opening lyric for "Hakuna Matata." Most set-top DVD games are usually pretty thin (DVD-ROM is where it's at), but the Safari game is an exception--the kids should love the roaring animals (in 5.1 Surround, no less). One serious demerit goes to the needless and complicated second navigation system that is listed by continent, but just shows the same features reordered. --Doug ThomasSee all Product Description

Not true. In fact, The Lion King was an adaption of the famous Shakespearian play Hamlet where the main character(which the play is titled off of)'s father, the King, is killed by his jealous brother. Told by his father's ghost to avenge his death, Hamlet does so, the similarity ends with Disney's trademark happy ending (in Hamlet, everyone dies at the end).
This movie, though not my favorite of all the Disney animated features (that title belonging to The Hunchback of Notre Dame), is superbly made and has earned it's recognition as one of the greatest animated features of all time very easily. I'd go as far to say that if Walt were alive when it was released, he would have been proud.
The music, acting, animation and overall story are all blended together seamlessly into a movie you have to be completely abnormal not to love.
Buy this movie, you won't regret it, even after the upteenth viewing.
Its sooo bad, it took me half an hour to find the deleted scenes, and i cant even find the original release on my dvd! (If anyone knows exactly where the original theatricial release is then pleaaaase tel me - email me email@example.com - i'll be forever in your debt)
But aside from the terrible dvd, the actual picture quality is great, and the original film is a classic, (although i do acknowledge that everything disney releases they call a classic)
However, you may like the added song but i felt cheated by disney that theyd changed my favourite film, so it depends on your feelings about the original whether or not you buy this dvd
The Lion King comes to blu ray as MPEG-4 AVC 1080p 1.78:1. I have the first taste of the high definition picture of the Lion King when I watched the trailer of this movie in the Tangled blu ray disc. In the trailer, the picture was simply stunning. Now watching the entire movie in 1080p confirms the fact that the video is pristine and razor sharp, nothing short of spectacular. Colours are bold, vivid, pure and brilliant. Black levels are deep and inky, and contrast is impeccable. Detail and clarity are exceptional. The line art is sharp and clean, and noise is nonexistent - it's just plain beautiful and stunning. (5/5)
The DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 shows great dynamic range and wonderfully extended lows. The dialogue and atmospheric effects are placed perfectly throughout the soundstage, with absolutely wonderful dynamics, not a second of distortion, not a single off or odd line or sound. Distinction, directionality, localization effects, they're all top notch.
The Lion King is one of the rare movies with 3 Oscar nominated songs. The other movies with 3 Oscar nominated songs are Dreamgirls and Enchanted, but they did not win the Best Original Song. The Lion King did with "Can You Feel The Love Tonight"...a rare feat...3 Oscar nominated songs and won!! As the matter of fact, Hans Zimmer also won an Oscar for Best Music, Original Score.
The voice casting is another triumph, with Matthew Broderick as Adult Simba, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Nathan Lane as Timon, Jeremy Irons as Scar, Robert Guillaume as Rafiki, Rowan Atkinson as Zazu and Whoopy Goldberg as Shenzi. (4.5/5)

Anyway this film is a another jungle classic from Disney about a lion cub named Simba who is destined to be king. But a tragedy forced him to flee, guilt-ridden, while his wicked uncle takes the throne. It would take some convincing and the courage to face his past to make Simba the king he was born to be. So that's all I could tell you folks, you will have to see the film for yourself how it ends.
Overall, I really love this film. And I don't have any particular scene, and also the musical soundtrack was excellent.
