Product Description

Product Description

2004 Remastered Edition. Original Soundtrack with a New Song 'morning Report' Written by Elton John and Tim Rice. A New Remix Version of 'can You Feel the Love Tonight'. Includes a Bonus Disc.

Elton John doesn't seem like a natural choice to write for a Disney musical, but he rose to the task on The Lion King, transcending his usual penchant for the softest of soft rock. Sir Elton's collaboration with Tim Rice (former writing partner of Andrew Lloyd Webber) helps connect the soundtrack to the theatrical lineage of all Disney musicals--so much so that, like Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King was eventually adapted for Broadway. Undistinguished songs like "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" are far outnumbered by stirring, stately tunes that lent the film so much of its sense of pageant and play. --John Sanchez

Even though I had viewed the movie in theaters when it first came out in 1994, I had never bought the soundtrack. With the special edition coming out, I thought it would be great to get not only the soundtrack, but some added songs too. Well, I enjoyed all the songs from the original film, as well as Morning Report (well, it was kind of cheesy in the movie, but one grows to like it). One big surprise to me was that the (as far as I knew) out-of-print CD "Rhythm of the Pride Lands" was included, complete with inserts. I don't know if this is a rarity or what, because I can't find anything like my two-pack on the internet or elsewhere. On the afore-mentioned-CD, I really liked the deleted song "Warthog Rhapsody" and the "Busa" theme. But the one thing I hated on that disc was the Disney Channel Circle of Stars version of Circle of Life. The first vocal on that track sounded like some teen boy singing falsetto. I'm serious! I stopped midway through that song, and skipped to another track it was so bad. If you haven't gotten the soundtrack at all, I do recommend you getting this, and if you can even find it, get the one labeled 2-CD and get the extremely rare Rhythm of the Pride Lands. Two CDs for the price of one!

As an owner of the Special Edition Lion King DVD, I was at first quite curious to see that there was a Special Edition Lion King CD as well as I coudln't imagine what they would have put on here. But besides a fancy package and the inclusion of the over hyped "Morning Report" song that is found in said special edition DVD there is really very little to make this a 'Special Edition' CD. Yes they have a remix of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" by the writer of the song and famous musican Elton John, Which isn't bad, but still is this enough to warrent a whole new CD that has exactly what the original soundtrack has on it besides? I would have to say yes and no.
A yes, if you never bought the orignial soundtrack and just got into the music and movie with the rerelease of the DVD. It's a great buy as you get the new song you will have heard as well as all the original songs that fill this movie.
A no, if you like millions of people own the original soundtrack and aren't that crazy about a very short song of the "Morning Report" and can't get all excited about a CD having 3 versions of the same song on it.
It still is a great overall soundtrack though. It has "Circle of Life", "I Can't Wait to Be King" "Hakuna Matata" and all the other songs you will remember from the movie. It has the insturmentals and the Elton John versions of the main songs from the movie. The only special thing though is the addition of two songs and one of them being short and isn't even that thrilling.
So the choice is yours. If you already own this it isn't worth buying again. You can hear the Morning Report in the DVD version and not feel like this is a must have either way.

It's sad to see that disney REcords loses a good chance to bring an album that makes the difference between a special and a regular edition. Instead of the special edition album of Beauty & the beast, here are nothing that makes say "wow, I have to buy it". What are the new pieces? The song morning report and -why? Do we need this?- another version of Can you feel the love tonight.
It's a shame. I personally think that this is one of the best scores of Hans Zimmer and also one of the best of Disney Records, and the original is 5 of 5, but you'll see: I'm from chile, and in Latin America, the spanish edition of The original Lion king soundtrack had a different album art -astonishing and better than the original -and...AND READ WITH ATTENTION: WITH ONE MORE TRACK THAT WASN'T IN THE ORIGINAL. It was a score selection called ¡Hienas! (Hyens!, in english), unreleased to this date, five minutes long -maybe more- and really a good one.
By including this one, the spanish album doesn't have the Elton john version of I can`t wait to be king, but WHO CARES? When we buy a soundtrack, we want the music that was part of the film, no a lot of songs not perfomed or rearranged for the album.
Buy thos one only if you don't have the original. If not, cry for a real Special edition soundtrack.

I may have made the mistake, but I received a used CD rather than a new one. The company was excellent at refunding my money. I then ordered the same CD (new) from another company and they seem to have lost my order and are re-ordering another one. I was disappointed in that I wanted to give the new CD as a gift and the delay in receiving it has been extensive.

Whenever I finish watching the miracle of cinema that is The Lion King, I have a problem- I want to watch it again. I realized that I wanted to hear all the dazzling music whenever I wanted. That's where this soundtrack comes in. The music is incredible. "Circle of Life" is magnificent with all of its beautiful African rhythms and powerful vocals. "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" is a nice, snazzy little number. "Be Prepared" is sinister and excellent. "Hakuna Matata" is a wonderful, upbeat piece. And then, there is the Academy Award-winning "Can You Feel The Love Tonight".

It is impossible to describe with words the beauty and passion that is the one of the two greatest pieces of music ever made (the other being Eric Clapton's "Layla".) "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" is lyrical poetry. It is amazing art in melody. Even as a grown man, it still brings tears to my eyes.
And even in addition to these, there are wonderful selections from the Oscar-awarded score, and Elton John's version of "Can You Feel The Love Tonight". I would pay any price for this soundtrack. If you listen to the soundtrack, I know you will agree.
