"Sometimes, you have to do things, even though you might fail." – Fluttershy Not every Pegasus pony in Equestria is the same. Just ask Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy. While Rainbow Dash is bold and daring, Fluttershy is quite reserved and caring. But that's what makes Fluttershy such a wonderful friend to everyone around her, whether they're her pony friends, like Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, Applejack and, yes, even Rainbow Dash , or her non-equestrian friends, like Angel the bunny. Join in for five adventures that feature everypony's lovably quiet Pegasus, Fluttershy.

The thing is, I've always had a problem with the themed DVD's, in that a handful of them don't have a themed episode centering around the theme the DVD is about. Make sense? An example I'll give is the 3rd official Mlp fis DVD, "Adventures in the Crystal Empire." Sure it had the season 3 opening, "The Crystal Empire," but the other 3 episodes? Not so much. We get a Rainbow Dash episode (probably best to be on the Dash of Awesome DVD), the Princess Luna episode (...prooooobably best to be on the Spooktacular stories DVD...oh wait, I think it is!) And the "It's about time" episode (huh?). I thought they could've put the "Games Ponies Play" episode there...BUT they placed it on the Princess Twilight Sparkle DVD.
The Princess Twilight Sparkle DVD carries the same problem. We get that one episode where she becomes a Princess...and in my opinion, SHOULD have come with the Season 4 opener "Princess Twilight Sparkle Parts 1 and 2!" How awesome would that DVD have been? It would make sense since Season 4 hasn't aired yet I think but still...we get a crystal empire themed episode, a Trixie episode, which is alright, a detective episode which was more about Pinkie Pie than Twilight Sparkle, AND a repackaged episode "Lesson Zero" that can be found bundled with the Wedding Playful Ponies Brushables wave. In fact, I don't think the Season 4 openers have been issued on a themed DVD yet.
The "Keys of Friendship" DVD is one I actually own and even reviewed here on Amazon. I thought it could have been perfect if they included the Applejack and Pinkie Pie "Key" episodes instead of putting the random "Pinkie Apple Pie" there.
You get my point though, right? The only perfect DVD Hasbro put out in my opinion was the "Royal Pony Wedding" DVD. It had great episodes. The epic Canterlot Wedding episodes, "Sweet and Elite (shares the celebration theme with Twilight Sparkle's Birthday), "Hearts and Hooves Day (shares the wedding/trying to get two ponies to love each other plot)" and "The Best Night Ever (the great Season 2 finale, piggybacking off of the Canterlot Wedding celebration theme).
This "Exploring the Crystal Empire" seems to be the newest DVD in the themed MLP DVD's line and if you ask me, Starlight Glimmer should be the focus...so why is she not on the cover? There were many themed DVD'S released since "The Friendship Express" and I've stopped collecting em after "Keys of Friendship." I own:
- The Friendship Expess
- Celebration at Canterlot
- Adventures in Ponyville
- Royal Pony Wedding
- Princess Twilight Sparkle
- Pinkie Pie Party
- Keys of Friendship
Overall, I'm happy Hasbro tried with this DVD since every episode is indeed a "Crystal Empire" one, well...except the "Cutie Re-mark" but it still makes an appearance in it. Its just weird how Hasbro released 2 Crystal Empire DVDs and 2 Scary story themed DVDs.
Since I have Netflix, I see no reason to spend $9 on this DVD. Only if your a collector, I'd reccomend it. Or else, just collect the season sets. Kids will probably enjoy the sing-along and forgive Starlight Glimmer's corruption. Hope this helps!
The main purpose of My Little Pony is to educate both kids and adults about friendship and everyday issues. It teaches these lessons in a variety of ways, with each and every episode having its own independent adventure that contains hilarious comedy and even action from time to time.
There are five episodes total on DVD and they all focus on adventures around the Crystal Empire, a city in the My Little Pony world. Each adventure is completely different from the others. One is a time travel adventure, another is about protecting the Crystal Empire from freezing weather and another is about making friends with a creature that everyone assumes to be a monster. Despite the differences in each episode, they are all entertaining, unique and have wonderful messages behind them.
The production quality of this animated series has never gone down, but instead continues to improve. One key thing that surprises me most is the plot and the message behind the plot. This season fantastically creates new and interesting elements to continue the exciting journey of the characters. Speaking of characters, the voice-over work is still as emotional, original and natural as it was in the first episode.
Out of the five episodes, my favorite is the last one called The Times They are A Changeling. In this episode, one of the characters discovers a creature known as a changeling that can take the form of any other character. Unlike the rest of his species, he is not driven by hate and anger. The changeling struggles to prove to others that he is not a monster but just someone who wants a friend. This is a fantastic moral because it talks about how one specific person does not reflect what their entire race or nation is doing and should not be judged for the actions of others. It is a marvelous message that I feel is very important for both kids and adults to listen to in today’s world.
My Little Pony is still great for kids, with bright colors, simple but hilarious jokes, and educational morals. But this series also appeals to adults with its compelling stories, relatable characters and morals that can apply to adults as much as they do to kids. I give My Little Pony Friendship is Magic: Exploring the Crystal Empire 5 out of 5 stars for its beautiful animation, wonderful episodes, entertaining plot and compelling morals.
